I normally unlock Space Militarization and ride the peace-time out. That is to say, I know that nobody's going to declare war on me until everyone unlocks Planetary Invasion (I normally keep to myself and try not to piss people off with Starbases during this time), so I don't even bother spending time on weapons for the most part. First, I get the translators up and research up on my diplomacy and social improvements (throwing in

Naw, it was the Carinoids. The AI can be severely paranoid sometimes.
I'll bite. This story only applies in Sandbox mode, mind you. It's common knowledge that the Terran Alliance discovered Hyperdrive technology and shared it with the other space-faring races; however, this did not mean that they were not attempting Colony Projects beforehand. As new engine technologies were developed, the Terran Alliance continued to send colony ships out from Earth to find habitable planets. Many of them, unfort
Wow. Contraband eggs. I hope you ate them deviled, you sinner. haha I just find that bizarre.
For fun, after looking at my ranking (769) after only posting one game, I decided to see just how far along on the ladder I was. So I brought up the ranking page and skipped to the very last player (1140-odd). The player in dead last managed to play 4 games and only score 8 points. I don't see how this gets done without retiring in 5 turns or less. I just found it amusing. Normally if I retire a game, it's normally to see what kind of po
Wow, I think I've officially paid more than everybody for this game (not griping about the price point). First, local stores were late to get it, but now that they have it, it's far cheaper given the exchange rate (I'm Canadian, eh?) to buy off the shelf. But I realized that this might happen when I ordered the game from Stardock directly. No regrets there. What makes me angry is that Canadian customs dinged me for an extra $15 for this.
And in space.... it's very cold. ... I'm sorry.
Porings rock!!
Social Production could be automatically transferred to ship building when all planetary improvements are done. This would solve the potential issue of people's economy becoming crazy when all social projects are completed. And if there's no ship to be built, it would just go back to your treasury. It wouldn't be hard to do, w
If you're not asking for anything in return, then you're offering a tribute. This affects your relationship with them, but the change in your standing is entirely dependant on the value placed on the tech (if you're not giving a tribute of cash). A good way to figure out how much the AI values a particular tech is to attempt to sell it to them for money. Adjust the slider for the cash as high as it can go before it turns red. If the cash
Is it me or does Undead Omelet's Drengin ships look very Ur Quan-ish?
I'd like to see the Syd Mead-style hulls that were used in Wing Commander Prophecy (they made the coolest sounds). Then again, I may be the only person who actually played Prophecy.
Here is my best Hack at a starcraft style terran battle cruiser :o BATTLECRUISER OPERATIONAL!!! *wumwumwum* Man, that game needs a sequel that's not entitled Ghost.
Too bad my Vorlon-inspired attack fleet was erased when I patched. If you still have your old saves that had them enabled, load up the game and go into your ship designer. Re-save the design to a new name and it should be accessible on your next new game. If you don't have 'em, I'm sorry
I was going to ask "how you build freighters" I don't see them in the shiplist. The freighter module for ships is available only through the Trade tech. You can skip it, but you won't get the module unless you pick up the basic Trade (check its unlocks).
sn't it obvious? It's because on the Starbase, you don't have to pay sales tax! And thus the thread comes full circle. Well played, ol' chap! Shall we go on a drive-by argument? "Oh, Reginald.... I DISAGREE!" *screech*
imho races should only be able to surrender to the ppl they are at war with. COMPLETELY agree. There should be no dang choice, except for the case when they're at war with multiple races. Then it's simply choosing the strongest race to surrender to. It's the only logical choice. The
It has to run out of moves to auto-switch, and only then will it switch to a ship that a) has moves available and b) is not on autopilot. Same goes for the key-press (Tab). So if you want full control of your ships, don't leave them on auto-pilot.
Grav rings, huh? The only way for that to work the way that the starbases rotate is to have the orientation (in terms of the orientation of ships) 90-degrees. Then again, I'm sure it doesn't matter at that point. haha Galactic malls are galactic malls. Though why you would go off planet to shop is beyond me. Space * Mart... *shudder*
How would you solve the problem of the UrQuan Dreadnought's drones? Those things were awesome. pew pew pew pew! Wow... that game is so seriously old. I remember ... wow, I'm also seriously old. haha
Secondly, yea I'm using the mod where u can use any hull as parts, makes it that much easier to make sleek looking designs since you can link hulls together to extend the overall length of the ship What mod is this and where can I get it? I swear, I woulda paid for combat and the ship designer
Um not to nit pick but I'm still not seeing an "Image" button anywhere. Perhaps you can point it out in this pick for me Odd! I have the regular kind of phbb options under "Add Your Comments:" text. I'll post a screenie if I get around to taking one, but it basically looks like this: <br/
The Dregin just ignored them and continued to attack their planet, even though the ships were within a few squares of the Dark Yor planet. Interesting. Sounds like even though they're flagged as the AI's in the GUI, it seems like they're either a) not added to the list of ships and thus ignored, or b
Surely there's a crazy guy out there trying desperately to remember what gravity feels like.
Yea, it was a good article. I know how he feels. I end up wanting to classify and detail every ship I design. I am hping we can add more stuff to that. I don't think it'd be too hard to leave a text box available for every design so the more creative users can even write some text to go along with t
