Give me my tax money or I'll brake your knees!

Why don't star bases pay tax? I mean, they have people living on them right? Don't the people on off shore oil rigs pay taxes? So why don't the people on my star bases pay tax? I want my tax!

My guess is that people aren't residents of starbases; they're stationed there. They pay their taxes at the planet they "live" on.

Surely there's a crazy guy out there trying desperately to remember what gravity feels like.

No need, they can make grav' rings in/around the space station to simulate gravity. IMO thats whats those rotating things are. They might also have internal ones too.

Maybe starbases and ships are all automated? You don't lose any population when either of them are detroyed (less you have a colony/troop module).

Grav rings, huh? The only way for that to work the way that the starbases rotate is to have the orientation (in terms of the orientation of ships) 90-degrees. Then again, I'm sure it doesn't matter at that point. haha Galactic malls are galactic malls. Though why you would go off planet to shop is beyond me. Space * Mart... *shudder*

Isn't it obvious? It's because on the Starbase, you don't have to pay sales tax!

And thus the thread comes full circle.

Well that is until their state taxes inform them they have to account for all off planet purchases and pay taxes on them. If you thought the Dregin Empire and Yor collective were something to worry about, wait until you meet the IRS (intersteller revenue service)in an audit. In space no one can hear you scream...

The starbase population would be too small to consider independently from planet populations. Remember that your money isn't credits, it's billions of credits (bc), coming from trillions of people. All the people on all your starbases might pay 1bc in taxes if you're being insanely generous in your estimation.

Guys, Dont complain. You dont count starships for taxes and you sure as hell dont count Starbases for taxes, It makes no sense to add a crew value to ships and the likes and then tax them, Especially since taxes are mesured in Billions, I'm pretty sure that 2000 or so people on a starbase wont make much of a dent.

My knees are already old and slow, they don't need brakes. Of course, you mean break

The number of people there are not significant enough to label people on starbases as a source of income. Just assume ppl on the starbase pay tax and vote to their home planet, like the out of state people do.

As for markets and modules that you build on starbases, you do get income from them, through the form of tourism.

You don't have to pay maintainance on starbases . . so, maybe the tax they pay goes towards that? Or am I completely wrong about that :S . . .

Well played, ol' chap! Shall we go on a drive-by argument?

"Oh, Reginald.... I DISAGREE!" *screech*

Simple answer: Starbases do take taxes, port fees, etc. but only get enough to maintain themselves. So you don't pay to keep them up there (unless you have to due to a UP ruling) but you don't get any money directly out of them either.

No money "directly" out of them, though you do have the econo-boosters. I like to think of them as the "downtown" of the galaxy. There's always a party, a business meeting, a million things to do.

I laughed till I cried when the Akilian leader popped up and complained that his daughter had been at a party on Deep Space Fourteen. "You do NOT want to see a member of my race wearing clothes made for you ::shudder::"

I think we need to vote for a new collective bargaining agreement. The union guys on the Starbases are making too much money. Maybe we can bargain them down to 59.5% or so, that way some of the revenue makes its way into the owners pocket.

I think knees are required to have anti-lock brakes now. Especially on star bases.
