Grats on getting back to No 1 Staffa!! Possibly for a bit longer this time as they seem to have done at least the top 25 scores (are they doing these manually for chrissake?)
Kiwi Greg
Woohoo grats on being back at No 2 Cataleptic - and grats to Hurley on making it into the top 25. It's all swings and roundabouts as the scores get adjusted every which way!!
Really? Why? - it was one of the few I would just "build naturally" under the "old" rules.
I preferred the "eliminate purchasing of trade goods" suggestion..I suspect it was a slighly harder programming fix than (presumably) just going into a table and changing some values
Well if you die tomorrow Staffa you can still say "I made a difference!!"
Do they drop off the scores that are zero from the number in the divisor> - I have at least on of those
LOL Cataleptic is back to No 1 but I suspect it wont last as all the scores get reconfigured...
You are commendably phlegmatic about it all Ray!!! If I ever finish a game my measly score will also no doubt take a dive.
Bascially because all of your games are 1.01 or 1.02 you are being hit because those versions are easier to score on then the later versions which have various bugs/cheese/exploits call em what you will fixed.
Nice AAR Better luck next time!!
ROTFLOL I see we are 4th now. Go visit the EU thread - they are having a big discussion about "rules" - its the EU constitution thing all over again. (If Luxembourg gets one vote, then all the real countries should get at least 100000 votes, except the French who get a veto and Germans who get to be the French lap dog and the British get 2 votes, UNLESS they vote in favour of the US in whcih case they get no votes and the Poles get 3 vbotes but not until 2010 and the Turks, we
One of their top scoring guys was playing version 1.02 and got most of his scores toasted on the reworking. No doubt Chris will lose some points sooner or later for the same reason so dont gloat too soon!!! 1.04 is an interesting change with much more expsnive and less valuable trade goods. However, Aprodisiacs gives a 50% increase to pop growth so they have upped the value as well.
I always pick speed 2 for big games as well. 1.04 has made some tweaks (not always sensible3) to the game which will change some "standard" game winning tactics a bit. The main one I noticed is that trade goods are more expensive to buy and worth significantly less to sell to other civs (like I could sell tranlators to minors for 27 BC for zero months playing on "tough").
As they have patched today I will play with the new patch; might just try "challenging" to see how it goes :)
Interesting..assuming I can keep my eyes open when I et home tonight I will start a game on much harder difficulty than I have been playing, will see how I go - why do you prefer clusters over evenly spread?
I think you mistake me for Chris; prior to entering this forum I had never heard of (the rather improbably named) Misty Hymen. In fact the statement could be made about ANY country - almost all of them "for better or worse" owe some part of their present-day culture to one or other of the European countries, either directly or via proxy (mostly US). That doesnt make them the same (any more than the culture of, say, East Coast US is the same as, say, southern US).
Also Pontius, given English isn't his first language I dont think you can use that first quote against his argument...
But it is true for just about any country. Most countries where colonised to greater or lesser extent by European countries or (more recently) have been significantly cultural influenced by the US (which in turn owes something to a largely European root). The European Union exists because of common geography not common culture.
Ohhhh and NICE WORK Chris and Josh - some good scores coming through there and rocketing us to 3rd place!!!! I spent a rain-sodden memorial weekend in Baltimore entertaining my kids instead of productively sitting in front of my computer......
Managing your fleets takes time? What fleets? and why? I build colony ships and constructors a lot but they are just..wait for build...send them somewhere..hit "yes" or something when they get there. Survey ships I put into auto survey mode. Warships I leave in planetary orbit. If I *have* to fight a major war its generally just a matter of assembling a fleet of sufficient size, set up a train of (escorted) transports to follow it around and basically
3 systems in one sector - Zoom, Schwartz, and Pafigliano-and / or-Manny, Moe, Jack
Oh man that takes me back a long long way.. /hic /burp
Time will tell.....
10 gets you 20 s/he cant stop posting here :)
/shrug - at the broadest level it is a true statement, it just doesnt stand close analysis
I got slightly more points for a "normal " giagantic tech win than for a "challenging gigantic tech win. But I think the main contributing factor was I ended to "challenging" one simply because it was getting late (well after 11pm) and so I just wanted to go to bed. So pop was the big difference rather than difficulty. I fought zero wars - I mean I whiped out 4 minor civs but I made sure they were all one-turn wars and I made sure I got all the trade goods (I missed tri-whatever metal
