I see we are 4th now. Go visit the EU thread - they are having a big discussion about "rules" - its the EU constitution thing all over again.

(If Luxembourg gets one vote, then all the real countries should get at least 100000 votes, except the French who get a veto and Germans who get to be the French lap dog and the British get 2 votes, UNLESS they vote in favour of the US in whcih case they get no votes and the Poles get 3 vbotes but not until 2010 and the Turks, well, we LIKE the Turks but they arent going to get ANY votes. Belgium, well Luxembourg gets their votes; the Netherlands vote is counted with whoever gets the most votes, Scandinavia is counted as a single country and gets 12 votes, excpet Finland which is regarded as part of Russia except on Tuesdays when they get 999 votes.)

And I am simplifying matters....

G.R.O.S.S. did get hit by the recalc bug. And that same bug is going to hit everyone as well.

you can see about how hard it's going to hit you by looking at your name in the metaverse, adding your scores and dividing by the sqaure root of the number of games. The games have already been recalculated. The total scores haven't for alot of people. I'm ignoring any effects of time fading cuz I don't know what they are but this will give you a good idea.

For example 4d (sorry to burst your bubble there)
Old score 607.4
New Score 139.7

Christopher Packer.
Old score 14,963.4
new score 3,129.

Catalyptic: Congrats on first by the way even if it is temporary.
Old score 21,680.7
New score 5873.7

Mine is going to go down from 6001 to 2038. Ouch!! But I lost less % than your guys so I guess I won't complain. Staffa and some of our heavy hitters have already been recalced. But we'll start that climb again once it all evens out.

Woohoo grats on being back at No 2 Cataleptic - and grats to Hurley on making it into the top 25. It's all swings and roundabouts as the scores get adjusted every which way!!

Uh, sorry about that. I just wonder how many of the former top scoring glory hounds are going to withold games just so that the total score will not be automatically recalculated? 'Tis a long fall, but we all gotta jump some time.

By the way, the exact formula for all of its glory is still the average score of all games times the square root of the number of games. So the zeros still definitely count.

Have you seen the hoopla in the GROSS thread? If that doesn't get the ANZAC spirit boiling nothing will. I am going to be up all night in order to win a game. I have deferred my jump off the Bridge until the ANZACs are unassailable. By-the-way, I think Staffa may be bribable, so if we start a 'Let's Buy Staffa Fund' we may have a better chance of staying ahead of the dross.

Finally planed a halfway decent score - sorry for not pulling my weight (some of my recent experiences looking more like Gallipoli than Iraq). Can you wiser heads help me with build orders for your planets? What are your 'must have' improvements? Which ones are really worth the maintainence cost?

MUST lay the smack down on GROSS...... >:(

I am not sure I am at the level to give really sound advice. Here is what I have in my governors queue for all planets(obviously as and when the techs are obtained):

Soil Improvement
Banking Centre
Habitat Improvement
Economic Exchange
Terrraforming
Trade Centres

These are all the zero maintenance improvements (grateful to anyone who can point out others that I have missed).

I often add Stock Exchange to all planets because although it costs 1 BC it tends to pay for itself.

For the better planets I also build (obviously trade goods, capitals, omega improvements etc come first):

Research centre (sometimes I build this on all planets as it is low cost)
Fusion power plant
Orbital hospitals (must be reading all that SF as a kid)

I noitce the AI builds shipyards a lot - it is only 1 BC maintenance IIRC.

Other than that I just go with the flow - you have to get used to the idea of sometimes having planets building nothing- it seems like a waste but too many improvements can kill your economy
