i'm not completely understanding 'all-X'. %100 nothing but factories on all planets? if so where does you research come from? do you mean 1 or 2 factories and the reset research buildings on research planets? or literally all research. I'm not grasping how you maintain your economy with all factory planets *and* a fleet of ships. I'm not grasping how you're not completely out-teched by going 'all factory'

I also used to be mixed with a one-third research and two-third factory split for productivity buildings. I would mostly have productivity buildings early and mostly economic buildings by end game, with all the research buildings overwritten with econ buildings once I had secured all of the pieces of the tech tree that I wanted. However, I'm now with Iztok and go the all X approach. Factories in my case, because I prefer the bigger maps.
Getting those values high early in the game absolutely can't be emphasized enough. Where my games are at now, shaving even a couple of months of my time results in huge point boosts.
Yeah, it's always nice to blow out a goal. I still think going from 100K to the mega scores is easier than getting to 100K. It really is good to see another person popping up those numbers. I haven't managed the same score twice yet...Don't expect to ever do that! :) It looks like you have a pretty good clip going for getting through the games as well. That is at least as big of a challenge as anything else on those Gig games. In fact, the time gap between your ga
Conquering minors will flag you with the genocide flag as well.
Congrats to CraigHB on cracking the Million point club on the offical MV!!!
I had this problem way back when. I just used a different browser and it worked...I've never seen a good explanation of why some computers/browsers have this issue.
Well, I'm betting I have the most bandwidth. The network I maintain (I'm the network architect) at work has two (redundant) OC12s for ~1240Mb/s (yes, I have over a Gb of internet bandwidth to the computer I am using right now). I've had them for the last four years. In addition, because of their size, they are both plugged into core systems from major providers, reducing the number of hops. If I can find a fast enough site (which I have a few times), the local hard drive is slower than the i
Time to pluck the strings on my one tune note! :) I think jumping another race before they are ready right at the start of the game. It's a windfall in terms of both planets and tech. For suicidal games, this is the big equalizer for me, since the AI can pretty much out do me in all categories.
There is a big jump when you go to obscene for overall game difficulty, if I remember correctly. You might try a small game just below obscene and if it's still feeling easy, popping it up one should fix that. Also there are a couple of AARs that can be useful once you hit a point where it is challenging. I would suggest my own (which has saved game files) and Wyndstars Altarian AAR, both are at the Suicidal difficulty level. On the trade thing. You can look in debug.err fil
Just noticed your massive submission Mumble, Congradulations and first place in the Meta to boot. Thanks . Sorry to take it from Purge but at least it's still "in the family". I would expect that Purge could take it back pretty much at will. <img id="ImageResize_Image_8" onload="ImageResizer.createOn(this
OK. It really has nothing to do with GC II (why it's in the OT threads), but it's just too funny! http://www.nj.com/hudsoncountynow/index.ssf/2007/10/flaming_squirrel_ignites_car_i.html It's Rocky the Frying Squirrel! A kamikaze squirrel fell from the sky and detonated a Bayonne woman's car yesterday, police said today. Lindsey Millar, 23, and her brother, Tony, 22, were both home Wednesday at about 12:45 p.m. when Lindsey's car suddenly started burning
Of equal (or greater) concern are the items listed under "Expenses". Ship maintenance can be staggering late in the game and can easily go over 1200 bc. Colony maintenance is another thing that you need to think about long & hard. Each colony improvement has a maintenance fee per turn that ranges from 0 bc up to 5 bc.
Keep in mind the actual numbers will relate directly back to map size and planet count. I've had my ship maintena
Nope. Call to power is not part of the chain, but all the others are. My understanding is that Sid Meier had a hand in 1 and 2, but not 3 and 4. Still, the inheritance is just civ 1->2->3->4. You could put Alpha Centauri between Civ 2 and 3, if you want. In order of release, I believe that is where it fits, if memory serves. I wouldn't quibble with calling it the peak
Up until I started this game I was still chugging away in MoO 1 (1992). So game play defiantly beats graphics in my mind. Too many of recent games have catered to the crowd of graphics. Give me Starcraft, Diablo 1 & 2, Lords of Magic or Baldurs Gate any day over the recent pile of goo (present company excluded). Here, here. And how many folks on this forum have expressed their pining for MoM, with others talking of the extre
2) Newly built ship notification pop up on right hand side of screen stops popping up...Eventually planetary build queue notifications will also start disappearing.
I just received an e-mail from Cari saying she was able to reproduce and fix this....This one has been a real pain to me, and I can't let it go without a public thanks to Cari! Cari, you have always been great at stomping these things out and I really appreciate it! Thank you, once again!!!
I never seen more than four 700% tiles in any game of mine, let alone on the same planet...And that's with 900+ planets for some of them. Never any on a homeworld. Alright everyone, rub drrider's charatacter for luck!
You should probably send in a saved game file and outline specific instances where this is happening within the map. This way they will have a chance to fix them...
I think this is true for all games. I thought Beta 2 might nail it, but no go. Civ Manager->Colony list Double click on any planet Change what is at the top of the build queue Click done That planet on the colony list still lists the previous project. I'll send in a bug report.
There is an overall spending slider for production as well. Make sure it's taged up a few percent. Also, when on the planet itself, you should see a value other than 0 towards the top left in the military box indicating how many units of production you are putting towards the military.
BTW I noticed that you think you may have squashed the autopilot bug! Thank you! Yes, I think that I have. If you turn off Skip Moves Left after Autopilot (or whatever that option is) you should at least be able to tell when the ships lose their destination. I think that the reason that I was never able to reproduce this before was because I usually have that option turned off so that I can get ev
I must say that TA has been very stable. A few interface and tech tree bugs here and there, but that is to be expected given the changes. No crashes at all for me.
It's a way to stop them from getting destroyed I guess... With only one hit point, they are pretty much going to lose any conflict they are in. Really, I can't think of a legitimate reason to do this. Even the all engines one weapon colony killer is still going to knock these things out and always survive because of the one HP rule, barring very bad luck. If you guys see a TA game with arme
Happy weekend everyone! This one was a long time coming!!!
