TA Beta 2 - couple of bugs

Just a few bugs found while playing Korath on a large map with all other races :

1. Mining bases on asteroids become lost (do not display on the map) but otherwise okay
2. Ships with Disruptors do not display when trying examining planet build queue - unable to buy them
3. Question - Particle beams for Korath are after lasers but give nothing??
4. Lost a fleet (just vanished, never to be seen again)
5. Mining ships sometimes refuse to mine an asteroid - have to send them away and back again to get minig to function correctly.
6. A fleet would not attack Terrans but would any other race - just weird
7. Conquered planet using normal invasion (not mass driver) and it went from a 12 to a 6 quality planet. Was invading another planet using mass drivers in same turn - maybe a cross up?
8. Got to a real twist and went to an opld save where I was unable to place spies, unable to talk to other races and all races declared war on me in the next turn.

And a game play question - Korath have slave pits etc (so replacement for factories etc) so, will they eventually not have access to the standard items but only their own special items. Research labs are one that stands out. This would seem to make more sense.

You should probably send in a saved game file and outline specific instances where this is happening within the map. This way they will have a chance to fix them...

#5 I have seen as well, but I think it's in DA 1.8 as well. But I can't be certain.

#7 - Never seen it to this degree, but when it happened to me, I saw a PQ 15 drop to like 13 or so, and merely assumed the AI had chosen the +20% PQ bonus pick. With the techs in DA, if an AI chooses +20% and trades for weather control and then the torian +5% boost, they'd have a +35%. Granted that doesn't explain a loss from 12 to 6, but maybe something like that?

#8 - The latest beta I've only played the tourney, but it seemed like I couldn't place spies at all. Probably would've had a better score if I hadn't spent 5-10% income on agents for the first 100 or so turns

EDIT: #7 again - I think I read about a Korath improvement that is supposed to lower planet quality, but instead raises it? If that's the case, maybe the improvement bumped the planet up to PQ12 and then when you took over, it re-read the improvements list or something and reset PQ to 6, where it should have been all along. Not sure if that makes sense, but it's something to think about.

Acquisition of enemy technology through conquest, espionage and tech trading will give them access to traditional technologies. If you normally play with tech trading turned off, it will be more haphazard, of course.

It would appear that the tech "Weather Control" has since been changed in the TA beta 2 update. It no longer provides a +10% PQ bonus like I said in a post of mine.

To original poster:

In any case, try to get a save that can be used to quickly reproduce the problems mentioned. Ideally, you want to be able to load the file, and get the problem in a couple of turns. Once you have that, grab the save, the debug.err, write up a text describing how to reproduce the problem, and then zip the files, and mail the zip file to:
[email protected]

One way to try to get these saves is to wait for the problem to occur, then load the most recent autosave, and then try to reproduce the problem. Please note, from my experience, not every bug can be saved.

The devs have stated that Particle beams have not yet been activated (unintentionally it seems). The tech does not have applications for Terrans either.

teinedraig,

Thanks for finding all of these bugs.  I have some questions about what you've reported.

1. Are these your own mining bases or bases that someone else owns?  If you zoom out do you see the icon for the mining base (looks like asteroid field only colored).  Are you able to see mining bonus lines coming out of the asteroids?  If you click on the asteroid does the context area indicate that there is a mining base?

2. So when you design a ship with disruptors, it does not show up when you try to build the ship?  Is there anything else on the ship or just disruptors?

4. Was it your fleet or did it belong to an AI?  What kind of ships were in it?  Could you click on the space it used to be in and get a selection cursor to show up?  If you zoomed out was there any icon where the fleet should be?

5. Are these mining ships on automate or are you manually moving them?

6. Did you get any prompts about the attack?  Were you attacking a ship (or starbase) or a planet?  What was your relationship with the Terrans?

7. A saved game would really help us on this one.

As mentioned above, a saved game ( or multiple saves, each reproducing one of the reported problems ) would be very helpful to us.  Please remember to zip your saved games.  If they aren't zipped, the file often arrives corrupted.  Providing a description of how to reproduce the error, something like "I click on Terran Fleet 25 and attack Torian Fleet 30 and it crashes immediately" helps us to get to the problem quickly.  Also, please provide your debug.err file since this will have your hardware information and any error messages the game might generate.  You can send all this to [email protected].

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if this is even related to the ship bug mentioned here, but i thought i'd toss it in. I've got this bug a few times in DA 1.8(xyz), i don't know if it extends to TA, but i don't see why it would not. If you design a ship, with say, some defenses and two plasma weapons, build it, and then upgrade the design by removing the plasma weapons and replacing them, with say, disruptors, then save the design under the same name, the ship is not saved correctly.

You will end up with a ship design with both plasma and disruptor weapons, though only the plasma weapon models will appear on the ship, and their weaponFX will be used. However the damage done, and weapon points for the ship will reflect having both weapons, as will the icon list at the top of the build screen.

In reply to your questions :

1. My mining bases. Have had it happen in my recent game with the Torians as well. The mining base is there, it is just not shown in the correct colour (still in default gray). So is probably a graphics issue on refresh. Have seen it with other races where they have mining bases but the asteroids are gray. Also have the re-assign issue where I cannot re-assign a mining bases output.

2. You can see the ship in most places, but when you go to the planets build queue to buy the ship there is no image, the buttons are disabled and you can do nothing. The ship was an upgrade to a small hull, and the only chnge was the disruptors.

4. My fleet, could not locate it in the fleet list, nor the ships in it - knew this as they were all a new class (mid size hull), could not click on where it had been (next to my capital so I knew where it was supposed to be). I have only had this happen once in about five games.

5. Manual move and assign. Seems to fail to recognise that it is at an asteroid and should mine it. Have had this happen with all races.

6. No prompt, was at war and had been few quite a few turns, fleet would happily attack other races, just not terrans. Have had this happen only once, have not been able to repeat it and going back to the auto save and replaying, the bug did not occur again.

7. Think I have the save game which shows Earth as a class 6 planet, which was the planet in question. Can't remember the other planet I hit at the same time. Save game is a few turns after the invasion.

I will send along a save game with descriptions.

I have no. 5 happen quite a bit with autopilot. If I send the miner a long distance to asteroid fields, it sometimes will not do anything when it gets there. Moving it one space to the next field starts it back up.

Seth Gaines, can you send in a zipped saved game where this is happening?  Let us know which mining ship it is in your message.  Send it to [email protected].  Thanks.

As soon as it happens again, I'll send you a save.

No. 1 should be fixed in beta 2b.

No. 2 should be fixed in beta 2b.

Miner trouble happened again. I sent in a save.
