Nice speech Purge!!!
Thanks neilo!
It is great to see that the Diplo's have been able to weather the storm of the various contendors for their crown.....speaks volumes of the members i think. It is also great to have the Tyranny of Evil and The Kzinti Empire rise up and take the place...ever so slowly mind you, of the Orcas and the HCH.
A healthy Metaverse absolutely needs healthy empires. And as I

I wrote up a little something for us over there. If you would like to add to it, feel free!
Why should you be a Galactic Diplomat? First, we are an open empire and all are welcome. We have a private forum over on [link="http://www.thegalacticcore.com/"]The Galactic Core[/link]. We play for fun. In fact, if you are NOT having fun, we will encourage you to take a break and go do something else. If you come back to the game, that's great, if not, that is fine too. Either way, you will be welcome to come hang out with us any time you feel like it. Some of our most val
The big annoyance is when you are buying ships at 60K a pop to spend down your extra million in cash and buy one too many ships, accidentally shutting down your entire production for the next turn. Or the times when you are trying to find a ship that needs less than 20K to complete and you can only find ones that need more than that to finish them off.
thanks. It will probably take me a few weeks to combine thoughts, topics, etc etc. I do have school work to do on occasion too you know...like the public policy quiz i get to take later today, joy
Work?!? What's that! :SURPRISED:
Impressive Wyndstar. This certainly shows expert manipulation of the AI...One of the most useful skills in this game is the ability to turn the AIs against each other and keep them balanced/neutralized until you can take advantage of their paralysis. Well done!
Gracious Diplomats, So I've been tossing around the idea of working on a 'series' that would focus on a particular game aspect every day or so, a singular post that would be on that topic geared to help new players and veteran players alike. I personally loathe traversing 20 threads to find relevant information, so am thinking having a concise and pertinent thread that utilizes the wealth of information found throughout the forums. I bring this to y
Oh, I don't know. It seems like the editing work would be quite a task in itself and worthy of recognition. In addition, I think it's fair to say that most of us are more interested in the community benefit rather than individual credit. The information is only good if others can find a use for it...Also, I know that I personally benefited from reading posts by more individuals than I could possibly credit and many of the things I have read have gone into my overall game strategies.
Hmmm.... At least some of the medals are not working properly. For instance, Mumblefratz should be getting a silver medal for 2nd place commentator, and I don't see it appearing next to his name. [link="http://metaverse.galciv2.com/index.aspx?g=topscores&m=1"]Gal Civ Authors and Commenters[/link] They show up on the individuals profile, but not their posts. Even then, it appears that the top authors get both medals. I.E. Frogboy gets Gold author and Gold commenter
Congrats to the Kitties. You now officially have more character members than any other empire. One of yours?
There is one other way to get a ship with negative HP. If you have a ship in orbit around a planet with the Omaga Defense build (the one that doubles HP) with less than half it's HP remaining and you launch it, it will have negative HP. Putting it back into orbit will NOT restore it to positive HP. No worries, the game will remove the ship when you hit next turn (ouch). Although that was rev 1.11 or 1.2. It may have been fixed since then.
Interesting theories Wyndstar. And from the foremost expert on scoring on small maps too! I have actually pushed an entire galaxy into population loss with 8-9 trillion people before. I didn't write the numbers down, but my impression was that I lost a pretty significant amount of people (~.5T a turn?!?). I had assumed this was a percent, not a fixed number. But if it was a fixed number, you could add 100B to each planet from turn one with no VR centers, but stock exchanges instead,
RL has been ridiculously busy for the last few months and has not given me much time at all to play this fine game. However i have been 'playing around' with TA and look forward to the time we can start playing MV games on it. Anyhow i hope to pop in again real soon. Laters
It's alw
I think they're going for a "it takes as long as it takes" approach. That's fine with me because I'd rather not see big changes after the official release.
I think this was the community consensus back when they did a poll. I know that is the option I voted for as another month or two is no big deal to me...
Concerning the advance search button; My browser blocks it as an ad for some reason. It may be a plugin filter or something that is causing it not to be seen for some.
That's probably it. My FF is locked down fairly tight since it's my primary. I haven't seen anything from the devs, but I can't imagine that they are unaware at this point...
Great to see you in our thread Purge, don't be a stranger now, Mumble has his own seat here now!!!
Thanks! I do tend to lurk when work is slow! :)
I've been reading the seminal threads by Wyndstar, Purge and Mumblefratz on strategy for GA, posted by them in October, 2007, and have a question: Were these strategies developed while playing DL, or were they playing DA by that time?
DA at the time for me, although I have about equal game time on both versions. I know Mumblefratz is still DL. Can't answer for Wyndstar, although if it's the thread I saw, he was DA, because he
I have to agree with your conclusions Mumble. I suspect you couldn't get that kind of a score on a small map if you started with every planet fully developed and fully populated with bonus tiles. Although I thought there was a conversation at one point in time on the forums about them cross checking the final total against it's component parts. My memory on it is vague and long ago though... BTW the Advanced Search button doesn't show up in firefox (but if you cut and paste the link
Hmm...Do I sense some friendly inter-empire rivalry? You may just have to crank up your scoring Neilo! :d
I am a big long term player of strategy games. All Civs, all MOO, SMAC, Ascendancy and various others... Civ 4 is the version of Civ that convinced me it's no longer an automatic buy. Out of the box, it's very heavy, crashes easily and has an AI that is clearly engaging in anti-human group behavior and over the top cheating (worse than previous additions). The game is also full of features designed to cripple the human player. Frankly, I would play MOO 3 before I would play Civ 4...
Try it with 920 planets on a DA, Gig, Abundant, All with hundreds or thousands of ships. Trust me, you will be reloading the game to before the event if you ever want to actually finish the game. But then, I'm OK with reloading since I save out multiple copies of the game as I play. Actually, that raises a point I was thinking I was seeing. In DA I remember playing galaxies where I had 800+ planets. Is it just me, or does the
All, It looks as if our empire has been returned to an open empire status again. If you would like to join, you should be able to do so by simply clicking on the "join empire" button in the empire listing screen.
Looks like you should have the silver medal at the next recalc Craig. Congratulations! Better watch out Mumble, I think Craig wants his turn with the shinies! I noticed this also caused our empire to break the 10 Million point mark. Another high water achievement!
I don't mind this event. Means you no longer have to put engines on your ship. Just research the speed +1 techs until you're at 5 and you're good to go. I admit, I don't play the dense immense galaxies (just sparse ones), so my turns don't take too long, but I don't see how 5 speed max is so horribly crippling.
Try it with 920 planets on a DA, Gig, Abundant, All with hundreds or thousands of ships. Trust me, you will be
