Using the 1.6 beta. Still getting massive frame rate slowdowns when a lot of ships/fleets are on screen. P4 2.8 ghz ATI x800 GTO w/ 256 meg 2 gigs RAM Talking under 10 fps.

So what was loaded up in SDC last evening wasn't the 1.6 beta?
Hmmmm. So the update I got last night via SDC (between 6 and 7 EST) wasn't the 1.6 beta? If not, what was it? It seems fine as I played a couple hours on it.
I really hope the off-type defense bug is fixed in the beta's. I've given up on playing until this is fixed. Even my last medium galaxy game was killed by it.
Bonescott, why not counter for now by trying to really research defense tech, and creating ubber defensed ships of your own? Then it would be slug fest I am sure, but it seems like that would be the logical way to give yourself a fighting chance. Afterall, the tech victory should take awhile right? Why not tech up in defense instead, and create powerful defensive ships of your own? Yea, I plan to do that next time. In this game it was too late before I
Yes, please patch it. My last game nearly was killed by this. Most AI's had a huge shield defense against beams while I had a huge attack with mass drivers and I couldn't touch them. I had to turtle and eek out a technology victory before I got wiped out.
File planet is free with an account. I found my *really* old Gamespy account worked there a few years back. Still use it and it's an email address I no longer have. Free download just means you get put in a queue. I've downloaded a ton of Oblivion mods via Fileplanet, all free.
The higher your tax rate the *more* of those shields go into military, social and research. Just try it on a mature world. Set tax rate to say 15%. Check the planet and note the number of shields in each production area. Now jack up taxes to 50%. You'll see a whole lot more shields in those production boxes and a ton more money rolling in to your budget. Have *you* tried
I get massive performance hits as well once a lot of ships start appearing (tons of stacks). I'm talking framerates under 15 (when normally over 40). P4 2.8 ghz ATI x800, 256 meg 2 gigs of RAM Seems strange. I turned off textures for asteroids and that helped a little bit. Only turning textures off on ships seems to really help but of course it looks not so good. I turned off showing orbiting ships and so forth.

Another ex-Guardian if I'm not mistaken. Welcome back onto the 'Highway to Hell' bon. Yep, was Guardian for a long time. Lots of Maso 64K "booms" if I remember correctly. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Wink.gif" border=0 align="absmiddle
RE: Taxes and production. First thing I do with a new game: Crank taxes up to about 48% which give your starting planet just about 50% morale. Only time I adjust down is if a planet goes under 50%. Otherwise I'm running taxes between 40 and 50% all game. This is where all your income comes from. If you try to keep 100% morale it might take you 25 turns to build that factory. If you hover around 50% morale it might only take 7 turns to build it. Only time you want 100% moral
On my large galaxy games with 8 AI's plus myself it's usually a mix. 2 or 3 AI's will share the same technology. In my last game I had 2 AI's to my "north" that were missles and 2 more to the west had mass drivers. Terrans were far away and used beams. It was pretty spread out. But then some games they all seem to have the same thing. Just depends.
I joined the empire a few weeks ago. I was pretty active on the meta in GalCiv 1 but Oblivion kinda sucked my time during GC2 last year. But now Dark Avatar has my full attention so I'm hoping to post a game a week or so as time permits.
I get tons of slowdowns because of this and I've got a decent PC. Once this happens my frames go down from 50ish down to the teens.
I use starbase defenses all the time. +15 vs. missles sure gives your offensive modules time to buzz thru the massive Drendgin missle cruisers and allow the base to survive.
6. Please give a detailed example of an attack against an enemy, as I didn't try it and am approximately clueless on how to achieve this. What is the goal: conquest of enemy planets, or ships, or simply destruction? Where and under what circumstances do the battles take place? Well battles take place if you're at war with someone (or if 2 or more AI's are at war with each other). If the AI declares war on you then you don't have a lot of ch
Yes, I can report this problem as well. Rarely do I get any bonus tiles on my homeworld. In sets of 10 I started new games and I only got bonus tiles about 3-4 times. Otherwise nothing. In Dread Lords it was typically 8-9 times out of 10 there would be at least 1 bonus time on the homeworld.
If you already preordered before the 17th but didn't get an email with a DA serial, contact [email protected] to see if something went wrong with your order. Email sent. I pre-ordered on June 28th and haven't received a serial number yet. No hurry though.
I might have a reason to get more tokens with TGN now that I've used the rest of mine on DA and SR2. Question for the Stardock guys who have seen the game so far: Do you think a non-RTS fan would like this game? I've never really cared for RTS games and prefer turn based (Gal Civ and Civ series). Maybe I need to wait until it's completed and try the demo out.
I got about an hour out of the Demo myself. But then I didn't fly around trying stuff too much, was just doing the training quests. I got to the point where I jumped to another system, did 2 quests there and then the demo expired. I want to finish my current GC2 game before I jump in because I can tell I'll be sucked in big time. It really looks like a great game.
As for opinion on games: Jets N Guns - What a fun game. Love it. I've played it all the way through at least half a dozen times. If you just want to sit down and blow stuff up and not think it's awesome. I was hooked after 5 minutes of the demo. Xeno Assualt II - Very galaga like. Again, another mindless shooter that's great to waste some time with. Space Rangers 2 - Just got this game and it totally rocks. Loved it after checking out the demo. Gun Metal
I like the demo. Was a bit confused with the game but had fun and was disappointed when the demo ran out. So I want to support companies that don't use DRM and put their games on TGN. I'm buying it tonight and download the full game. Good job. I hope the SR2 guys are on here reading this thread and see what a good idea it was to hook up with Stardock.
With the new tech tree with milestones I'd love to see a "blind" research option like in Alpha Centauri. So I could say put 50% of my research toward weapons, 20% toward starbase tech, 10% toward defense and 20% toward planetary improvement. Not sure it would work with so many branches but it would be cool to put a % of research toward a particular branch with perhaps a choice of a particular tech to reach for. Once that tech is finally learned then you have a choice or true blind research in
Jets n Guns is a game not to be missed.
