I understand that that "bug" has been fixed in TA. Now the AI considers it a "100" priority. Does anyone know the rate at which a population decreases if a cure isn't researched?

I grab as many planets as I can, then focus on infrastructure. I'll be as friendly as possible to anyone I meet, then once I think my military is sufficient, I'll go on the offensive.

Someone probably already figured this out a while ago... I got the plague mega event and quickly researched the cure, then I sold it to every race including the minors. In one turn, I had about 27,000 credits in the bank.

It's my understanding that each race will have unique techs. Does that apply to weapons as well? (e.g. laser, missle, railgun) If so, that means that no one would ever be able defend against an enemies firepower ...unless they stole or got the tech in trade. That would be cool!

It has been my experience that the Thalians expand quickly unless they are terminated early. Tough Large galaxy All races and 8 minors.

OK, Thanks. So I gather that I need to subtract "expenses" to determine an individual planet's net income. ...but My planetary expenses are usually quite high (for all of them), so combined I don't see how I could be saving any credits. ("be in the green")...yet I am. e.g. Income 25 Expenses 67 Maintenance 14 Net loss -56 What am I missing/not understanding

Please help me understand this once and for all. How do I determine an individual planet’s net income? Is the formula "income" minus "maintenance" minus "expenses"? If not, what is the formula? Definitions Income is obvious. Maintenance is the cost of upkeep for a planet’s facilities, ships, and star bases. What are expenses? (in GalCiv 2 terms?) It seems to me that maintenance covers all of a planet’s costs. Thanks, B

I realize this is OT... I'm not part of the TA beta, so I don't know if it's considered already: Since the Yor are robots, (IMO),they should be immune to the "plague super event"

Yea, I had a recent saved by the bell experience too. I was at war with two civs and just barely holding my ground. Then a random event that substantially reduced moral galaxy wide occured. The other civs decided that they better focus there attention on boosting moral, and offered me a peace treaty with some extra cash and techs included in the deal. My moral was already substantially above average before the event, and I was able to recover fairly quickly.

I unistalled the program and then re-installed it via SDC. (The re-instal time seemed normal, but the unistall seemed extremely fast??) The main screen still says 1.51, ..but maybe the version number indicator in "about" doesn't update properly. The best way to see if the program updated to 1.6 is to view the in-game effects. Right now, the trade screen doesn't show the maximum a civ will pay for a tech trade. (a new feature of 1.6) So stupid question... In or

Which directory or group of directories do I back up to save my "current install". Just curious as to why patches are only available via SDC... Thanks, B.

Hi, A few days ago, I tried to download 1.6 from SDC. It said it didn't recognize my registration, but when I clicked "OK", it (apparently) started to download. After a couple of minutes, I received a message saying "download sucessful". I went to the DA main menu (the one that allows you to choose "different chapters"), right clicked, and selected "about" The version number was still 1.51. However SDC shows a current version number of 1.6 as having been loaded onto my

The Yor. Because they kind of remind me of Cylons. And I like their superability. Combine it with a starbase module that slows you enemy down, and you can run circles around them.

Like, I can easily imagine SMAC being a lot more fun if it had a descent AI. I detect an air of anger in your reply... This was not meant to be a flaming session on whether or nor GC2 is a classic. But in defense of SMAC, the AI was sufficient for its time. Remember 8 years is a long time in programming development/advancement terms.

IMO A classic is a game you play for years in spite of it's flaws. Yes, but some flaws reduce the "fun" factor more than others.

35 Replies 13,682 Views

In my opinion, a classic is a game that you would play / return to play even years later I agree entirely. THAT is the litmus test of a "classic" That's how I felt about SMAC. I played it for 8 years, and only put it away to give GC2 a try. dthif1980 - Thanks for you points on the issue with spying.

+ NEW: Added Starbase module to repair the starbase with Tech Requirement Advanced Hulls. Will only show up if the starbase is missing HP, and can be 'installed' multiple times. This module should not count towards the total modules. In my experience a single ship with a single type one laser can take out a starbase with a single shot. So how does this new module make a difference? + TWEAK: Extreme Colonization more expensive Since the AI already has an

I’ve played GC2 for a for some time, and while I think it’s a great game, it just doesn’t feel like a "classic" to me. I realize that I’m talking to the choir, and I don’t mean to offend anyone, so please let’s not start a flaming war about whether or not the game is a classic. If you agree with me, please post what you feel would make GC2 a classic. Please be concise and only list a few issues. This way, Stardock can quickly absorb what the community thinks. I don’t c

Further to the discussion in this post , I have decided to take the initiative of creating an empire for older players -- say, 35 or older. I'm not entirely sure how one goes about doing this, but I suppose we will need a name. OMG what have I started... What beast have I released into th

[quote]It is clear that the demographic of TBS games is much older than RTS games and you'll find that 40 probably puts you closer to the mean than the top end. Really. I didn't know this. (I'll take your word for it, though) If I recall the poll results correctly, no one selected "over 50", and very few selected the 40's category. Perhaps younger people participate in polls more often than older people... which resulted in a skewed bell curve.
