After playing many games it is apparent that you must maintain a strong military to prevent an agressive civ from attacking you. This is just part of the game. No matter how high you diplomacy or influence. No matter how much tribute you dole out, you will eventually be attacked if your military is weak. It makes it impossible to pursue a purely peaceful strategy. However, I think that economics should play a greater role in the AI's decision of when (or if) to attack. If a weak player

I had trouble loading the game from CD too. It wasn't the disks however. It was my antivirus program. Just go to add/remove programs and completely get rid of your anti-virus program. Then load GC2 from CD. The game is worth the hassle of reloading your antivirus program and the virus signature updates. B.
I would like to see spies have the ability to steal a specific tech when you want (with a percent of success based on tech level, experience, etc)(like in Alpha Centauri- SMAC), not like the current sytem in GC2 where you pump $$ into spying for months and months resulting in a stolen tech once in a blue moon.
Many of these changes seem designed soley to push back on expert players. I'm concerned that these changes will leave casual players in the dust. I rememeber playing Simcity 2000 for example. With some careful thought, you could build a viable self-sustaining city, but in SC3000, it became almost impossible to do so (for a casual player). Needless to say, SC3000 quickly started collecting dust on my shelf. If the changes listed in your post are inevitable, I would suggest adj
Thanks Kryo and Eilarais.
For some reason the area of effect feature doesn't seem to be working properly for me. When I "single-click" a starbase sometimes I don't see the area of effect, other times it appears as a faint outline. (sort of like putting a round piece of glass on a black surface-only the edges are visible) I know this feature works because when ever I click on an AI starbase, the area of effect is clear and obvious. I've tried different zoom levels. At a very high zoom level, I c
I's say I put in about 5 - 10 hours per week. Mostly on the weekends.
I just read two DA reviews. Both mentioned that spies can sabotage a planet, but mentioned nothing about stealing technology. So, will DA spies be able to steal techs, or are they limited to blowing up factories? Other ideas - How about the ability to cause polical unrest or to steal credits or valueable assets of another civ (that can be cashed in for credits) But at the very least, they should have the ability to steal a specific tech (or at least "grab and run")<br/
...Sorry about misspelling your name.
Thanks Kyro, B.
So now that there will be a whole bunch of extra features packed into DA, will the system requirements be different from CG2? If so, what will the new requirements be? This is important because I have an integrated graphics card that just meets GC2's minimum requirements....No sense in pre-ordering if I also have to buy a new card. Thanks, B
Thanks Mascrinthus
How is a planet's "base" defense rating determined, and where can it be found on the screen? I'm currently in a game where I have no way of winning a military victory, so I'm "loading up" on defenses (e.g. increases in soldiering, and the facility that increases planet defense by 25%, etc)to protect myself until I can win by some other means. What do you find to be the best defense measures? Thanks! B
Granted that it either electronic or paper, so it would be worthless, but what about precious metals, gems, artwork, artifacts, etc. Certainly there would be someone somewhere who would pay for these goods. So, perhaps the conquering civ should be able to convert some of these items into cash, even if it is indirect (auction, pawn shop, black market etc)
When you completely Annihilate another civ, do you get the credits they had in their reserves?..Or do the reserves just evaporate into thin air. If not, I'd like to make a suggestion for Dark Avatar...... In real life, an invading force usually takes the riches of the invaded land. It should be the same (IMO) in GC2. Borg999 (One of One)
When a ship type is upgraded, you have the option of upgrading all current ships, or none. I'd like the ability to upgrade how every many I choose, because sometimes upgrading all can be too expensive for my current treasury. I'd also like to upgrade ships (once the initial upgrade model has been made) one at a time. (as funds become available) I'd like an option on the diplomacy screen that allows me to ask a civilization to remove its ships from my territory. In my current game, a c
Medium ships have 16 hp, large ships have 30hp. So it would be logical for the hull size of the large ships to be almost double, but it’s not. I’ve researched advanced miniaturization and the hull size of my medium ships is 57 and the hull size of my large ships is only 77. That’s only a 35% increase over the medium hull. Furthermore, weapons and defenses have a higher "space cost" for larger ships. For example, a laser IV has a space cost of 7 for a medium hull, but when I’m building a large hu
I thought the type of life support that was put on a ship determined how far it could go from the ships home planet. When building a ship, basic life support shows as .3 sectors, so I assumed that a ship could only go that far. However, I've sent ships out 3-4 sectors regardless of life support. So what exactly is life support supposed to do (what kind of game effect)? I built a mining starbase on a resouce just about half a sector away from Earth. A couple of turns later, I looked
Hi, I posted my issue in the 'bug reports" forum, but I don't know if I'll get a help in from there. I apologise for cross posting. I purchased the CD and loaded disk one without a problem. Next, I followed the instructions and inserted disk 2. The disk just spins for a while then I get a "non-responding" error. When I look at the Windows tak manager, I see two "galciv2 installation programs (both "non-responding". I shut down al
Hi, I installed disk one sucessfully and then followed the instructions that said to insert disk 2 and press "OK". I inserted the disk, clicked "OK", and the disk starts spinning for a while, then I get a "not responding" error message. Prior to installation, I turned off my anti-virus program (Norton), and all other Windows programs.. When I look in the Windows task manager, I see to Galciv2 installation programs listed (both
