Argh that question is back! Its been gone over a few times but CeZeus has hit the answer in a nut shell. Stardock want Galciv to be about ruling a civilisation as 'emperor', it's not about being the admiral. That's the design decision and the ultrimate answer. There are some other supporting reasons, perhaps the main one being about AI. Moo2 is the big comparison ofc. In Moo2 you could design your own ships

Well there's a different spin you can put on the space monster mechanic, rebrand them as ancient Precursor weapon systems roaming the galaxy long after their creators are no more. Automated drones acting out some long forgotten command to defend the Precursor empire and so on. It might not be all that original but you can side step the 70's latex monster image. Or have both.

I think guard makes your ships sit there until they die or you give new orders while sentry means they sit there until something flies past them at which point they leave sentry mode. Theyre both functions to stop ships you dont want o give orders to cropping up every turn.

On the shipyard screen, go to the extra's tab. (I'm talking about hull components not modules) I can see the human components and the 'Torian' components as normal. Underneath those I see a list of black boxes. Those blacked out images are actually the Drengin style components but you cant see them until you select them and see what appears in the ship model window. If I add one to my ship the component doesn't show up on the fitted bar below the model screen either, again

ALLY nice Pics but i noticed:What about the dregin? what is your intentions for them? i like the dregin because they normally become my freinds in GC1 because i "For some Reason" turned Pure Evil and, The arcean surrendered to me and gave me a HUGE advantage i then gained "Temporary" control over the most powerfull military in the game! It was short-lived however and eith

A few days ago a link to the Council Forum magically appeared on the left hand side of my screen, obviously connected to this new Diplomat forum rank thing. Just wondering what its going to be used for and if I'm supposed to be able to post on it, as I currently can't post on existing threads or start new ones.

But don't think I'm going to become Lowa11's official interpreter. I Oh go on, you could have your own medal on the metaverse!

I'm looking at the battle screens again and grinning to myself. I'm guessing as to how the camera control will work. There's a button on the control bar which I guess switches view between several predefined angles..gah I wanna play with it! Still two weeks to wait!

I should have made it less broad, 4x for me is a space strategy genre. Civ isnt a 4x game cause what are you exploring? Grass and trees? If I want to explore that I go to the countryside, hell even a park will do. Come on! Regardless, I find Civ more tedious than most turn based strategy games. Some might say its cause of depth, I say it's cause of... boring. I Played all

So....its a computer AI telling you the move it would make next if it was playing instead of you? /me resists urge to have his advisor executed I can see it now....

The whole MOO3 thing and the general shittyness of modern games can be 100% blamed on companies like Atari, EA, etc. Dont sell out to them, ever. I'm sure you know that though, heh. If they did sell out I doubt we'd ever see a GC3! Edit - actually we would, it would have a real

I would recommend some of the more impatient types like myself try the old version while waiting for Beta 4. And I thought the late pre-orders couldn't download anything. If what you're saying is right then you have access to eveything everyone else does. Which is contradicting, well, everything. Confused? You will be!

Turn-based gaming is, if not a dieing breed, then certainly one that is loosing market share, not just here, but everywhere. One reason for that has to be the simple fact that fewer tbs games are made, so they don't sell so many, so make even fewer. The great champion of TBS atm has to be the Total War series, but even those have RTS battles.

Oh yeah... I never build farms. Farms suck. Markets and Banks kick their butt, and I never have to waste tilage on additional morale raisers doing that. If Farms are meant to raise money, but other things do it better without adding to the morale issue, why have Farms at all? This is balancing issue. Farms produce food which determines your pop

Totally agree with you there Zoomba, more physical 'barriers' in space would be great to create some space routes and choke points, but still maintain the freedom to move around in 'deep space' away from colonies.

I don’t have the demo (and now I know I never will), so I don’t know how exactly fleets work. But I think a lot of people will at least miss the option to fight the battles for themselves. Tell me, what’s the point of being able to design your own ships in detail without being able to actually use them to their advantage as you intended in their design? Or: what’

one of the games i onced played i GC1 i ended having minor race owning half the star map (conquering a couple of majour races ) and im sure when you have that much power u become a majour power by default See thats what I'm talking about. A minor race shouldn't be able to do that. When the system allows for minors to do everything a major ra

In gc1 minor races could almost everyhing a major race could, but they were harder to talk to. A minor in a good start position would sometimes become once the strongest races in the galaxy. My problem with this is that effectively the minors ARE major races, they just cant claim victory and they don't have the graphical niceties like an animated embassador. And they seem to be annoying as hell to handle diplomatically. If thats true what is the point in having minor races, just make them in
