May be a silly question, but why wouldn't you install the latest patches anyway? Bug fixes/new content is a good thing.

I just obsolete/delete the ancient designs as I play to keep my screen uncluttered with steam powered warships.
When is release? I've already ordered but you've just got to ask the obvious questions.
Oh, other event option - invading force like the Mongol Invasions you got in Medieval Total War. Vast marauding army sweeps in from a map edge laying waste to all in its path. If this isn't the Dread Lords it could be some new group with moderarely good tech but many fleets. I don't see any reason why there couldn't be several variations on the theme with the new force using low-tech, moderate tech and Dread Lord tech levels with numbers to balance the threat level. Vast swarms of
(Veteran)Martok September 12, 2006 23:32:27 Reply #26 I wouldn't mind seeing mega-events, but I admit there's one I'd be particularly interested in: The Dreadlords suddenly showing up! Whether they simply start with a "swarm" of ships and invade straight away, or whether they first colonize a previously-uninhabitable system and then go on the rampage, I don
It sounds interesting, I think I'd want to see events that encourage coalitions to be formed to deal with them. The allied war example would encourage the other races to co-operate, the space pirates might not. I'd like to see things that can be countered by bargaining with your neighbours rather than just hoping that mega death pirate horde doesn't drop on my systems. Naturally these events would need to be infrequent but I do like the idea that the whole game could be blown
So, extending ship range through influence starbases.. not very smart. The AI loses it's mind when I build an influence starbase anywhere near a border. I build economic starbases to extend range, or try to take resources early on. This is one thign that doesn need addressing, if only to reduce the amount of needless wars. I disagree, if t
Could it be modded to disable the hostile environments? That way you just turn the mod on/off instead.
4. Rehauling "Diplomatic Victory" - Currently, it is too easy to cement alliances, and it would be nice if, in order to win a diplomatic victory, one had to form alliances with all existing nations and these nations had to elect you, in a vote, to be "Chairentity" (or something) "of the Galaxy" in a UP meeting. (Yes, I think that the Civ series did a good job with that.
The short answer - expansion pack. Longer answer - big looking expansion pack.
(Citizen)V1mSeptember 7, 2006 09:20:50Reply #62And multiplayer is already in the coding just a few bugs to work around like what happens when 4 ships attack the same spot? Wow, really? Damb, that should make a few people happy... can you give us any info on what type of multiplayer...? Back in beta stardock put in the 'plumbing' for
I think that DA will add more than enough to justify its existence. Hostile environments will radically alter how the early game plays out, we will have to decide more carefully which planets to go for and it may even remove some early competition between some races as they won't be able to use the same world types to begin with. The espionage system and asteroid mining both open up new branches of strategic options. Then you get what I consider extras like new ship jewelry, even more
When I play I tend to see the Torians building lots of large fleets (they seem to favour small/mid sized hulls) but few starbases. Maybe they need their priorities tweaking a little to use slightly smaller fleets but more starbases. At the moment they go ship crazy. I'm surprised that the Thalan are using the Terran AI branch. I seem to always find that the Thalan have absolutely lethal missile tech. I cant figure out how they get such nasty weapons so fast but they seem to do it ev
I have found that the AI will buy ships etc off you but won't give you anything like what they actually cost. I don't think its particularly viable to make profit out of building to sell but you can play both sides against the other by giving them cheap reinforcements. I would like to see a little tweaking done to make ship trading a little more worthwhile.
You need a pre-order section I guess.
Does it? I hadn't noticed! LOL! If it's doing the job right you shouldn't notice, you notice when the AI gets it wrong, not so much when it gets it right.
Ah I must be blind, found it. Now for my next question, what exactly does it do? Thanks. The intensive algorithms allow the AI to use more cpu time to calculate optimal moves. The computer will play smarter but the game will run more slowly on alot of machines as it will be using more system resources. I'm no
Hello Stardockians, remember me? still here just gone quiet lately. I think shutting down these forums would be highly damaging. Personally I'm not interested in a general genre forum, I'm interested in GC2 and I want to hear what Stardock is doing in a place where Stardock call the shots. On this forum you have total control over how you release news and communicate, you surrender that going
It's funny, in GC1 good races got all the best stuff. In GC1 by making good choices you tended to be a bit compromised early game but setup for a powerful late game when it all starts paying off. It apparently doesn't play out like that in GC2. The good guys need a helping hand with either some new tech/ability or beefing up the current ones. And I agree with the suggestion of a
I read PC Gamer (UK) every month and it's probably still my main source of information. However I don't pay much attention to the ad's. They do make me a little more aware of a title but I dont bother to give them much attention as I know they're biased towards trying to sell me something. I'd say the more effective print strategy is to have multiple part-page ad's over several successive pages. In other words a vertical column running down the edge of the page highlighting a chara
I think some techs eventually just become useless as they are neither smaller cheaper or high power than anything else, those annoy me alot. I wonder if a 'slider filter' might work. Obsolete every tech over X selected models old. I have laser IV and Mass Driver IV, I set the slidr to obsolete tech over 2 generations old and it removes everything but laser III/IV and Mass driver III/IV from the list. Later on I might decide I need an older tech afterall so move the slider
The most direct way to send ships to a rally point is to go to the shipyard screen of a planet producibng a ship and next to the buy now button you'll see a rally point button. Click that and select the rally point from the list. Alternatively in the Civilisation manager screen there is a rally point governor where you can switch things around like sending all ships going to X to Y.
It sounds like you probably have a dodgy copy of disc 2.
I'm thinking something maybe got permanently screwed up a long time ago in applying all those beta patches. I'll probably just do a full reinstall and put on the last patch, after I finish my current game. Do it, old files from beta can cause all sorts of weird niggles. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Hmm.gif" bord
Ok a few specific questions I have about buildings: How does the process work? Can you build multiple buildings on the first turn? What are the advantages/disadvantages to doing this? If you start to build 5 buildings on the first turn, do they build at the same time or in sequence? A planet will only work on 1 structure at a time.
