It's such a joy to see other insects panting and sweating as they run through my corridors. How can they challenge a perfect, immortal machine? ...may Looking Glass Studios and Irrational be forever blessed for System Shock 1 and 2, and let BioShock be a worthy successor to its glorious ancestry. Super Adapter. Oh you will love this race <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Wink.gif" border=0 align="absmiddle"

Hehe. Strangely I never gave that a second thought. She's a Super Adapter right now (since I thought she was good at adapting humans to cybernetic parts) - but Manipulator is also great. I should pit those two version against each other and see who wins but I guess in a low pop game the manipulator ability doesn't do much good.

I've got a custom race nearly complete - with both audio and a little animation... and the last thing I can't decide is what their Super Ability should be. I've narrowed it down to: * Super Isolationist * Super Hive * Super Adapter (or guess a different one than listed if you have a good reason). Thanks for the advice!

OK, I know the combat camera isn't perfect... so avoiding that pitfall, let's talk about the camera view you enjoy the most - and the camera view you use the most. Maybe this will help people find the best way to utilize the CCV (I know I'd enjoy some extra pointers). Here's the full list of views: * Top Down 1 * Top Down 2 * Chase Cam 1 * Chase Cam 2 * Chase Cam 3 * Chase Cam 4 * Orbiting * From Center * From Start * From Random * Fr

Sic jake got it. It was a gift from the humans, and for the most part - all the galaxial tenants knew each other well before you start your random games. Interesting thought for a specific game-type (mod) though!

Wow, this is unbelievable! Shows how different people are. Almost everyone I know (including myself) thinks the new planet types are the single best new thing in the Dark Avatar. I never would have dreamed there'd be someone out there that wouldn't want to play with them! Crazy!

I'm confused by something on this page: http://jeffpinard.com/planet_management.htm Step 7: So you'll want to click the All button and make sure the planets are sorted by class (size). Step 9: I'm looking for the largest planet that's not occupied by anyone. Easiest way to do this is just look for that has no shipyard and no social projects (the space beneath the shipyard). The first planet we see is Shard I

You can read the guide here: GC2 & Dark Avatar Guide It's very important for you to know the purpose of this guide. 1. It is not to cover every aspect of the game. It's meant to cover some of the things that are easy to forget, confusing, or difficult. 2. I'm not a web designer. 3. I still have a few pages to add. Custom Races, and a compilation of how the game cam stay fresh and fun (i.e. n

Via cheats it's easy. If you do ctrl shift R (to research everything so you have max sensor range), then do ctrl U - after you lcick thorugh a couple of your ships all the fog is gone. That's fine. But all I need now is to get rid of the box grid

OK, will be putting more together now that I got some sleep. ....Thursday afternoon edit.... I've got about 20 pages done. Have a ways to go. New stuff isn't linked yet... but it's coming slowly but surely.

Well, I was up all night, and I'm not even half done yet! Ughh, I've been up over 26 hours now, and I need some sleep. But hopefully what I have completed will be helpful to some while I compile the rest (the most important stuff is yet to come). Until then here it is! (and please be kind, I'm not a web designer, so I'm stretching my paltry web skills to their limit) Dark Avatar General Help and Tips Gui

I'm 99% sure it's an NVidia-Vista problem. ATI/XP system and no problem with that... and you're probably aware of the huge muck-up NVidia had with Vista's release. People are very angry at them for having drivers that work so poorly (or not at all) with so many games compared to ATI cards.

Yep I ran into this today while taking screenshots for my guide. I also found you have to close the game and re-launch. I wish the pop=up map were much larger though (although maybe it's bigger if you run at a lower rez than 1600x1200).

Sorry, I thought you meant from the original game to the expansion. Yes the GeForce 4 MX cards are very, very old and almost any 3d game released nowadays will have significant issues with it.

If you set it all the way left then the animations (like the ships bobbing) will only be evident when your at max zoom in. For better machines (hehe like mine) I can have it all the way to the right (100) and the animations will be evident zoomed way out - though it's you have to be looking for it. I think it's a good option to turn down if a person has a slower video card and doesn't want to sacrifice visuals. Hopefully someone else will pop in and say what other animations are affected.

Oh crap. The board just ate my long reply. I'm still working on the guide. It's highly visual so I might have to do it on my website (not sure this forum will do the screens right). Ironically this guide is just as much for me as everyone else, so I don't keep forgetting things. Cari, you can use any part of it you'd like for the wiki. Also, did you get my e-mail from earlier today? I'll post one of my screenshots as a test - I have all the races starting

Hehe, I know about the fog-of-war and blind exploration. My reason for eliminating it is setting up special shots in-game (you'll see).

First, the graphics are vastly improved. If you're not seeing it - it could be issues on your own. If you are on Vista and have an NVidia card, that could be the issue. I'd uninstall both Gal Civ 2 and Dark Avatar via sdcentral. Go in and make sure you delete everything from the install directory and your //my documents/my games directory (as long as you dont have old stuff you want to save). Reboot. Do a fresh install of GC2 (from sdcentral), and then install Dark

Thanks Jeff, And hope you saw the IGN review...they were considerably more impressed by the campaign this time around (than the campaign in Dreadlords)! It's always nice to know that your hard work has paid off Thanks. Wow that makes me feel really good. I put so much time into it! I wonder if they noticed mo

I've been looking all over and can't find any graphic overlay files for the main grid (blue) and the fog. I'd like to remove them if possible - but am starting to wonder if it's hardcoded. note - this is not the smaller grid that can be removed with ctl-g... but the larger grid. Click the link for a full screenshot (look at what the red arrows point at example picture

Wow, this looks fantastic. I too would echo the sentiment of a second stripped version that is Metaverse friendly. I'd like to make special request to BRad & Cari as well, that the powers at be make some kind of exception for this mod so it can somehow work with Metaverse. Maybe make another in-game option that can be clicked to run a check against a aecondary folder with these as it's Metaverse defaults. Most of us play all our games (unless testing) for Metaverse scoring and it'd

Hi everyone. I've been working on a guide for several days and should be done with it this afternoon. It's a fully annoted graphic guide to tweaks, gameplay options, and help for newbies and even veterans. There are things some of us do that add immensely to the enjoyment of the game, that has become abundantly aparent the majority of people miss... and this seriously hampers how much they enjoy the game. Expect it later today, and I hope it is useful for everyone.

I didn't read all the posts... but in regards to asteroids you can set your miner to automatically do all the work. Therefore, no extra time from you, yet you still get asteroid bonues as your miner runs around on his own.
