The Trade tech is not available in some of the campaign missions.

Are you playing TA? I've never had a problem in DA (Metaverse games) with this Dread Lords megaevent bug which I have seen discussed in other threads.
I do it in other games where I HAVE to take a risk where failure would merely mean restarting the game until I reached the same situaution. So, not in sandbox games.
Setting the cursor to "hardware mouse" solved these sort of problems for me. I used to get the game crashing when I tried to click on some of those pop-ups or small scrolled text area (such as the in-game description of bonus tiles in the planet screen). Also the cursor moves at the "usual" speed during most of the game. ...and similarly for me in other PC games with some kind of "standard Windows" cursor option.
Its the time remaining to complete the next upgrade (if you have researched that tech level in Space Mining). If your space miner(s) get destroyed, you can complete later, choosing the asteroid with the least construction time remaining.
Reminds me of one of the first PC games I played (Alien Nations). I thought I was on to easy money when I made weapons to sell to another race; they soon declared war on me - didn't occur to me to think what they could (or would) to do with their purchases[e digicons][/e] .

You can set your display to 1044x768 before you start GalCivII, or set the game's display to 1366x768 before you start a new game. I've seen in another po
Good city builder games which run on 32MB video, 1.6GHz CPU, and contain few bugs and are quick to load (oldies but goodies!). Many of their CDs are now sold complete with patches: Anno 1503 (the random-map generator for sandbox games is unfortunately limited); Civilization III (has some "city building". Turn-based game.); Port Royale 2 (more Carribean
they can manipulate other civilizations to do as they want them to do, for example make war on the civilization that threatens you
That ability is held by the "Super Organizer" special ability. It wasn't much use in my OP game: other races were too far away and too weak to help.
Game time was 8 years; the pirate megaevent occurred about 3 or 4 years into the game. I lost by surrendering. The military graphs of my two enemies were many times larger than mine, their ships were wiping mine out easily, no hope even if Yor and Thalan went to war with each other.
I learnt most of my def/hp/attack info from the variety of ships/fleets that the AI uses against me. If I see a race repeatedly winning battles against another race, that is a guide to what will be effective against the loser. Similarly it is can be a guide to what is ineffective. Subject to having the right sort of tech available or quickly researchable...
How much memory does your computer have?
Switch on the options which show all battles in the shot-by-shot screen. There, you can see exactly when and what is in each round of combat - could be you have been unlucky and your ships have always made a low attack-score (on each round, it is random between 1 and your ships' attack value; with the DLs the battle is usually finished after 1 round). Ships which destroy enemies get experience (and more HPs) in mid-battle.<
...and they can be upgraded later.

Does the "TURN" button disappear after you click it? Are the other races doing something that you can see (e.g. moving ships)? You can still select ships etc. and give orders while the other races are making their turn. Pressing the ENTER key has the same effect as clicking the "TURN" button, try that.
Have you tried finding a ship with moves left over, by clicking the "FIND" button?
Debug Message: Main Shell terminating normally
According to another post, this means the game ended normally. What happens when you click "TURN"? Sometimes a megaevent (especially the pirates') or other races deciding about surrendering or declaring war takes a while to occur.
