Yeah, tech victory is really just a race against time. But if you are in a position where you can win said race, you are probably capable of just destroying everyone as well. I do the same as butterfly, when I don't want to take the time I just max out and go for a few turns. But, to get you there faster, go Neutral for the Neutrality Learning Center, and secure research mining bases. Get all the special research improvements too (nano research, omega research center, etc).

In my opinion, interstellar war just isn't feasible without reaching Star Trek -level technologies. Even any sort of relations aren't possible without FTL communications. Really, going out of our system at all is a one way trip, as far as a "hard" sci-fi is concerned (in my definition of "hard", at least). All that would really be feasible is news transmissions, just reports in case anyone wanted to hear the latest events on Earth (ha, I mean ten years old events). By the way,
Influence buildings are like economic buildings, but while they provide much less of a bonus, they multiply based off of the entire galactic population, not just you're own. Meaning that besides going for an Influence victory, influence structures are only significant when you control a very small portion of the galactic population, because economic structures can only magnify the income of your small population, influence will grant you the galaxy's worth of tourism money. I don't kno
Let's say you're a smoker. You smoke two packs a day. You've been doing this for five years. I, your friend, finally work up my courage, and I start telling you to stop smoking. You say "no, I like smoking" and I say back "but it's killing you", and this goes on and on for a while. Would you say that I hate you for telling you not to smoke? Argument doesn't imply hatred.

We are discussing various topics, recently genetics and sociology, for dystopic to flavor his novel with. There is indeed a large amount of detail, because one needs a lot of detail to write a full novel. Admittedly, I myself have only skimmed through some of the larger posts because they are getting very technical, but I imagine dystopic needs all the details or leads he can get. danielost, there is no "point". This is more expository than argumentative.
Well, I like the idea of the von neumann ship, but it would have to be incredibly sophisticated, and is beyond the realm of what I would define as a "hard" sci-fi. But hey, it's not my story. There are some other problems with it. You would need more than just an artificial womb, you would need systems to support the child until it is fully developed, and then what? It would have a radically different life than us on Earth, total isolation would probably screw their mental developm
What are you thinking at this point? An intrastellar war? An alien discovery? Just politics? All of the above?
The AI is always very reluctant to trade star bases for anything, there is no option to change this.
Sounds good! I'm not a modder though. Can't help you. Oh, btw, I think Humans are already a Neutral race. I was thinking that you may be able to make them Evil. With such widespread destruction all the governments would likely collapse, and the world would descend into anarchy. You could say people radically shifted to a more evil alignment, a more primal, violent survival of the fittest attitude, with people primarily loyal to their families but otherwise brutal with others in the
I always play with the influence viewer, and with the star & planet map, but none of the other options. Though I wouldn't call myself elite, I don't think it is a cheap tactic. What is cheap is restarting based on an unfavorable position, but I did that myself for a while, when I was still learning the ropes of the game. If you want though, you can always check the "Blind Exploration" box when starting a new game.
I usually watch tv when I play GalCiv2, though not necessarily a sci-fi show. I also play Halo CE occasionally, but I don't turn on the tv because Halo is a more intense game (or at least I ignore it if it is on).
Instead of starting as allies you could just set relations to friendly, and then just not piss them off too much. You also want to make sure you turn off diplomacy and influence victories so you don't accidentally hit them too early.
Doesn't the AI operate in between turns? My guess is that is the cause of the slow down: after the movement of each ship the AI has to recalculate.
A guess? I have noticed that the AI seems to prefer to not build up a treasury. If that were the case, they would try to maximize their spending so it equaled their income. Therefore, they build starports everywhere to make use of the manufacturing points, which would otherwise be unused and returned to their treasuries (which the AI percieves as bad). But hey, I have no clue.
Building off of what ShadowWarrior said, perhaps it would be possible to not only have animations of whatever invasion tactic being used, but also what weapons your civ uses. I noticed that on the ground everyone seems to have lasers, missiles, and mass drivers; it would be cool if it could factor in what weapons you had (and possibly even defenses if applicable), so you would use only those weapons. The standard animation is pretty random. Any modders out there?
I will take Economics with any race. Then, if I plan for conquest victory, I will get Weapons, Luck, and Soldiering. For a more peaceful strategy, I get Morale, Diplomacy, and Influence.
You can't get much more circular that a brain working hard trying to figure how the brain works. There is a level of truth here. Is it even physically possible for any one person to fully understand the brain? After all, a computer can't fully simulate and analyze the same computer. danielost, I don't think anyone is shocked by your knowledge of basic chemistry. Sorry to disillusion you.
I was going to do some of my own explaining, but denyasis seems to be much more familiar than I. Though I wouldn't recommend placing magnetite in the ear. All that would result was an ear-splitting headache, until the hairs became totally defunct. Besides, don't creatures that use magnetic sensitivity do so in order to navigate? They would have to be able to extrapolate the direction of a magnetic field, not merely the presence of one. Just implant a compass in everyo
I haven't read much science fiction, actually, but i'll fourth(?) Ender's game.
--------------------- We are Microsoft of Borg. Lower your weapons and surrender your ships. We will add any original ideas and programs you have to our own, after we restart. Resistance is Futile.
So some buildings one might see would be Slave Labour camps, Gas Chambers, human experimental buildings..etc.. Don't these things already exist in GalCiv2? I thought all that was proposed here was an emblem and a portrait for diplomacy anyways?
you are free if you CHOOSE to do what you MUST do. while the choice isn't technically yours, depending on the definition of "you", it is to the same effect as if it was, since the outcome is the same. therefore, the choice is indistinguishable from the decision, and may be called "free". Um, what?
OH SH-!!!
