Ground Combat Animation

For the love of God, will someone please do something about ground combat animation? Atari soldiers that look the same across all races firing the exact same lasers against the crane tanks and Happy Meal super tanks gets really, really old.

Maybe someone already made a mod for this? You should check it out in the library section.

I find the outcomes of allot of battles to be quite perplexing.

The most important thing to realise is that logical fleet strategies start becoming less logical as technology increases!

How many times have i found myself getting my ass kicked, then changed my strategy to somthing that seems to make less sense, and then start winning!!

Galciv combat outcomes always manage to keep me scratching my head in wonder!!!

Yes. ground combat animations should definetly be fixed.

The troops should be replaced with five troops.
The tanks should be replaced with an M1-A1 Abram tank (or something).
The Mega things should be replaced by helicopters.
And the turrets should be replaced by SAM's (or something).

I would also like it if the invasion tactic you chose had a visual effect to the battlefeild.

Like when you use Planetary Bombardment, the sky would be filled with asteriods falling to the planet and sometimes an asteriod would hit the battle feild area and make a crater!

Do you know of a better planet invasion mod?

Building off of what ShadowWarrior said, perhaps it would be possible to not only have animations of whatever invasion tactic being used, but also what weapons your civ uses. I noticed that on the ground everyone seems to have lasers, missiles, and mass drivers; it would be cool if it could factor in what weapons you had (and possibly even defenses if applicable), so you would use only those weapons. The standard animation is pretty random.

Any modders out there?

I like to mod, I could basically change what the troops look like if I had something like Maya or anything that could make X.files.

Anything else might be streching it.

Also your lines of troops and equipment run out of the 'movie-set' when you
attack with a very large force creating a weird visual effect.

I hate how Thalan troops look the same as everyone else, they are not humaniod in form but the animationporteays them as being a humanoid life form.

Yes, planet invasions are in need of SERIOUS WORK.

If we all yell and demand better planet combat animation, we shall get it.

Maybe stardock should stop adding extra stuff, take a look at it, and then go and make the game look a lot shinyer on the inside! (i.e. troop invasions)

shinyer... I made that word up....

I agree, but remember Stardock has scarce resources.

This seems like the thread to mention it - is it just me, or are the tanks doing NOTHING? Every time I invade or get invaded, all but one tank gets destroyed, and they don't even shoot - they just... toddle along, waving their silly crane/guns in the air until they blow up. Why aren't they shooting?

So, yeah, Stardock needs to improve on their ground combat. Different models for different civs, maybe some evidence in the background of your invasion tactic you used on the planet (e.g. craters from Mass Drivers, swarms of nano-bot soldiers, etc.) and implimentation of your reseached weapons. They all seem to be using Stingers and Laser MKI.

I hope you realize that what you see in the animation, other than the general level of shooting, breaking, falling down on each side, has nothing to do with the resolution of the invasion. That part is just a calculation, which is probably already complete by the time the animation starts.

I'll look what I can do with Stardock on the ground combat animations for Twilight of the Arnor.
At least better new Weapon effects.

Scarce??? Have they not made good money on galciv 2 and galciv 2 DA??
Of course, but they have to make choices. I would prefer other improvements.

As I said, I'll look what I can do for the ground combat...

He's not, he's just doing some work for us.

Kryo, do you work at Stardock in Plymoth, MI or do you tele-commute, work from somewhere else? You are basically the forum administrator?

I guess a change would be nice. But i generally just hoit "skip" anyway. I'm not that into the suspence to wait it out. And i think even with new animations, peopel will start to do the same after the first few invasions.

Its like when you start sweeping away all those Drengin fleets that are all identical, after you watch it unfold once or twice it becomes the same battle over and over.

The tanks shoot missles, but the big things don't do anything! and even today tanks are faster than people so why do they seem slower!?
