Turns Too Slow

Hi Gamers. I love Gal Civ 2 - it's such a great space strategy game. However there is one thing I am finding annoying. For larger games when you have lots of ships, at the end of a turn they only move one at a time, and that makes each turn take about a minute or so some times. Is there some way to make all the ships move at the same time? I am refering to autopiloted ships travelling to a destination that is far away. It seems I am forced to watch each individual ship go along its flight path. It doubles the length of my game and makes it almost unplayable because it is too slow. Can we turn off the ship graphics or somehow turn off their movement? Thanks

The best way to deal with it I've found is first, make sure follow auto pilot ships is not checked in the options. It's under interface. Then zoom in to a dead part of space while the auto pilot ships are moving. When they're offscreen and not selected they move almost instantaniously.

Doesn't the AI operate in between turns? My guess is that is the cause of the slow down: after the movement of each ship the AI has to recalculate.

The AI does some while you play, but it also may continue to 'think' after you click the turn button, especially if you have enhanced algorithms on.

this is also what i do, and multi-task as well. the great thing about TBS games is that you can walk away from them and you won't really miss anything important.
