I am yet to see a minor go ape on the galaxy, but I'd like to see it. I've heard of it happening before and it sounds like it could make things interesting.

And its kinda funny how the bigger/longer ships wobble in place

Sometimes you'll get a request for peace in a message like this: "It seems like this war was a mistake on our part. Lets put this behind us." Sometimes they say that its hampering their other plans. But yes, sometimes they do ask for peace.

I seriously don't believe that such genetic manipulation would spiral out of control as you claim. I think most people would be increadibly uncomfortable with doctors playing around with their childrens genetic code. One molecule out of place and the child could have a third eye ball on his or her knee. I don't think anyone would want a doctor/scientist doing anything more than necessary to something so important and so fragile.

What were you doing with ships with 20 attack in 2235? [EDIT:] I just noticed it was your first map, sorry.

I've also been trying to flesh out the tech tree. So far I've added a prosthetics/cybernetics branch, inspired by Ghost in the Shell ofcourse I've got some invasion/soldiering stuff in mind, but the documentation for the invasion techs is sparse. I also wanted to add more influence and morale tile bonuses, and to add econ tile bonuses, but that doesn't seem possible with the xml files.<b

Have you ever seen a diagram of the solar system? Its pretty flat. For that matter, so is the galaxy. The Galaxy is within like, ten degrees of the center all around. Sure their are multiple layers, probably a hundred systems deep, maybe more. But is it worth the complications? The headache? I don't think so.

I've done every type but Tech, not patient enough I disable Diplo and Tech, like Vinraith said, to easy, to boring. I figure out which one I want as the game goes on. When i'm bored of merely manageing my empire I formulate a strategy as to how will grab more territory. Will I research influence and diplo techs, flipping planets, rolling up the galaxy and tucking into my pocket? Will

Politics, thats all trade is good for (atleast in GalCiv2). Whenever I'm on a map with the Korx or Torians (I always seem to rub those two the wrong way, while the Drengin and Yor love me (i'm neutral all the time)) I send a few freighters their way. I usually make my manufacturing capitol my trade hub, and I build an econ SB or two to boost the revenue. Why not cash in on my investment on top of the political stability?

Can starbases be repaired? As far as i can tell they can't, but i've been wrong before.

9 Replies 9,386 Views

Nope. If you just plain delete the tech and mend the chain you'll likely get an error. The code wants an Alliance tech, and if it doesn't exist it will become upset, probably even crash. You might just cut it out, but then it would be a seperate tech with no requirements and no 'children.' Ofcourse someone from SD would be better qualified to confirm or deny this. I just don't think it can be done.

I rarely use them, except in a region of space that enemies like to run through. That doesn't happen vary often, so I haven't used it in a few maps. Every once in awhile I fight a two front war, so while I focus on one, I defend on the other. I augment the hot zones with military starbases. But like I said at first, I don't use them very often.

Obviously you don't own Soul Caliber III. Or you'd mention it here, at the least as the exception to the rule. P.S. Rainbow Six is a Tom Clancy thing, go yell at him.

I always use my custom race, and make sure I have a jump start in engine tech. That way I can get as many worlds as fast as I can. I also only use one module (500 million colonists), this way, by the time the next ship is built my capital has recovered. Plus, I noticed that with blind exploration on, the AI is far less aggressive in the colony rush.

Make the repair modules difficult to get then. Is there a way to make the repair modules emmit an enticing odor that attracts AI ships? If so you could do that to.

Wait, I don't have DA (yet). What is this Jagged Knife event? Lets see if I can extrapolate: Jagged knife takes a bunch of worlds from each civ and makes a new civ, right? Sounds like a pain.

Then go into the xml file and change the '2' into a '4' and you've got your wish.

I'm playing a map right now where I was struggling economically, unable to keep up in my military and technology because i focused all my effort monopolizing a HUGE star cluster (it represents about 5/8 of the total stars) to insure my security. Then I got the Econ Boost event and I was able to quickly build a military and properly develop my new population. I'm trying to take advantage of it now because when it ends my economy will fold under the pressure of so many devoloping colonie

What techs they research is partially determined by what value each tech is given in the xml file(s), so don't blame the AI entirely, its just doing what it's been told to do.

Also, you can't grow beyond your food limits, thats why you have no growth on the 18/18 world.

I imagine it would be abit like a survey ship, but with some extra bonuses attached? Perhaps an upgraded Survey Module, like Troop and Advanced Troop Modules, that somehow benefited research. That would be pretty nifty, but I don't foresee it happening.

Starship Troopers rules! The second movie was a disgrace, and you should NEVER watch it. I was going to recommend that and Dune, but you've already done that for me popcorn. Thanks for stealing my thunder! lol I also have an affinity for galactic struggles, i'll have to check some of those books out myself P.S. Its Galactic CIVILIZATIONS: Dark Avatar, not Empires. I decided

Sounds like good balancing to me You could argue that you wouldn't be able to build more domes without the tech, and thus shouldn't have population growth. But you can't build passed the planets current pop cap anyway, so thats covered. You guys at Stardock are smart

Its nearly impossible to find a color that doesn't look like a default race's color on the minimap, atleast I haven't found one yet. I tried using white once, it looked almost identical to the Korx. Then I tried a very VERY dark green, but I couldn't see my border's at all unless I had the ship range option on. P.S. The Drengin and Drath colors display properly on the minimap for me. Maybe your settings are off? I've never had problems distinguishing Drath Brown and Drengin Red.
