I'm afraid I am well be hind the times Freischutz. I have yet to download the latest upgrade..*gasp*...I am limiting my gameplay these days, but I come back here occasionally and add my little bit. You're going to have to look for patterns. I originally found the patterns when it was in machine code far easier and did my changes in hex. Thats the key. Always look for a planet with a few bonuses and look for the anomalies and then you can teach us :)
FROOKIE
You want it all handed to you? try this: Modding bonus tiles takes a bit of time and effort, but it spoils the game in the long run. But if you are really interested all you need is a hex editor, hex edit was the one I used to use. Hexplorer is better, but you need to change the default font so you canread the damn thing :) Anyways step1 is to start a new game step 2 save the game with something memorable step 3 open the save file using
I think you can actually get 700% on the influence and morale, but they keep the original icons. All you need to do is replace the final pair of numbers in each set to 41. I've never tried it, but some of the guys who posted on the old thread said they had, so give it a go and see what comes up.
I'm fairly certain that it is impossible too. All hex edit does is change the saved game files. You would need to be pulling open the hood and tweaking the engine itself. In all likelihood you could possibly do it, but it all depends on how much moddability we're allowed. So far its mostly surface changes, planets and values and attribs. What you're asking for is too techie for me to answer. What other bonuses would you need?
Actually that particular thread is dead, its been nixed. In may wonder back in a couple of days if you got questions, but you should really have enough info if you want em that bad, all I got was a picture with a world full of all the goodies and the words hex edit. :)

wow! this is great. I've just got back to gc2 from a golden oldies-fest Xcom ufo defence, alpha centauri and moo2. and you've started work on this. Look forward to seeing your mod once its fully realised.
Hooray! no more red! Good job frogboy and co. As soon as you are ready to release, i'm there. Still no Tak though. Guess it'll have to wait for GC3. BTW you had me on "a new sequel to GC2"
GC2 is a great game, and eventually it will be regarded as a classic. What would have made it into an instant classic is: Tactical combat - Argue all you want. As the spiritual successor to MOO2 replacing tak combat with the bobbly fishtank viewer was a bit of a letdown. amputating the bobbly fishtank viewer. nuff said improving the triple cheese invasion graphics - lets face it they are just a tacky 3D representation of the MOO2 invasion sequence, without the charm. a
star trek eh? I think you're definitely on to something here... each race has its own tech tree with different aivalues assigned to the research item. changes were made to the cost of tech w.r.t. which race the tech tree is designed for: the drengin are more geared towards weapon tech so the stinger would be cheaper to research whereas they find virtual reality centres to be too difficult , or the torians love to research and so on and so forth. I think I'm definite
Cheers moosetek - I'm definitely going to have a play with that particular xml...But is there a way (for us) to give each race its own specific study path. AI needs significantly more accurate tool to measure real military strength. I agree with you iztok, the hordes of throwaway fighters that keep getting produced by the AI are nowhere near hard enough to battle it out with most of my mid game fleets. does anyone know where this can be adjusted? Or
Thats some decent work there WakZy! Glad you volunteered - my output in such an endeavour would have bummed bigtime yes, yes we know its cheating Cari, but its fun to see a world with two mines, two libraries, a hell of a lot of people thanks to the yellow food bonus all paying high taxes and all happy thanks to those wonderful approval bonuses. BTW this is just the beginning.
Some players have gone to great effort to learn how to mod non-Metaverse games to get extra bonus tiles. Easy victories are hollow victories! As players gain experience with the game, hopefully they will focus on how to make the AI better rather than how to cheat the game. guilty as charged! heh heh. But really this was my first foray into the modding scene. The cosmetic side of GC2 has very limited appeal - changing the tile pictures and designing new s
I suppose all sci-fi books have a certain relevance to gc2. It comes with the territory. The sci-fi books I truly love are as follows steven donaldson - the gap series dan simmons - hyperion set. douglas hill - legionaire of moros, exiles of colsec, huntsman saga (Only if you are a teen! I read them long ago ) frank herbert - Dune saga peter f hamilton
I've worked out a method that gives you good tile bonuses whenever you want them. the details are outlined in my post: get the bonuses you've always wanted... its in the modding folder WWW Link all you need is a hex editor and a save file and away you go
hi, hello and howru i'd like 1. terror stars - the ability too tow resources back to "nicer" territory as well as blowing up planets is cooler than well, the fonz. 2. custom races to get an increase in picks because the set races have terrific initial bonuses. how about twenty points to play with? 3. to be able to play with more than just the nine opponents 4. minor races that actually colonize other planets and hence become more of a threat if player
When you destroy a colony the tiles and bonus tiles change. really? so, potentially i could get a precursor library or precursor mine instead of one of those pesky yellow food tiles? nah, give over...
I like the mac guns idea too, but, (dare i say it?) the space stations in moo2 are a better realisation for defending planets. hell I might finally build an orbital fleet manager on one of my precious tiles if they came with a space station that aids the defense fleet. At the moment i usually make sure my planets have a couple of wimpy fighters to keep transports at bay.
Cheers Iceman. Guess I'll wait to see how things develop with the patch and community before going in. Not really wanting to make an investment in another 'indie' game unless i get some really decent noise from real players. The thing is, I played Sword of the stars recently and it was an absolute shite bomb. What a waste. Its so deplorable that it has managed to make the world a dumber place by the fact of its existence <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Mad.gif" border=0 alig
One upon a time i bought SOTS. Loaded SOTS. played SOTS for 2 hrs puts SOTS backs in box never looked back the end
An official tak combat post? wow, things have moved one some since I last showed my smiley here! And as far as I can tell there seems to be none of the old tak guard here... never mind, init. Tak combat will not be in gc2, period. Which is a shame seeing as I was doing my level best to push the idea in the early days of GC2. The game seems incomplete without the option to be the adhoc admiral now
add an ability for survey modules to collect scraps from destroyed ships Sounds great, but complicated to implement.. Someone suggested in another thread that new anomalies could pop up during the game, that would make a GGB more useful. i don't see why this is difficult to implement at all. Instead of the destroyed sh
yeah! bring back the space shark! I remember those really well, they were cool. Also the crystalline entity and various others from MOO2 would be spot on. crystalline entity anyone? or how about a huge world muching space slug with an aversion to sodium chloride cystal laser thingummy gun?
I'm in the richrf school of tile managing... manufacturing and research bonus tiles always always get a factory and research building respectively. You cannot win on maochistic+ without them. I disagree with the morale tile usage though. Its a guaranteed high pop world with one of those babies, and when you wanna go invadin' then you have a troop supply planet ready and waiting. Ditto on the food tiles, though. Influence...I rarely use them until endgame, Once the gam
Amenostep - whatever. Hey richrf, yup I guess you're right its pointless debating with someone who argues against what they themselves beleive to be true, just for the sheer sake of argument. Pity I wasted so much time...shit happens.
