BTW, I use mini-soldiers and tidal disruptors a lot. It doesn't show it in the screen shots, but I have close to 200 planets to conquer from the Drengins. So, what I have gives me a good margin, just in case. |
An extra 50% margin is reasonable. Yes, from the screen shot it doesn't look anywhere near 200 planets.
The two best tactics

neither cause loss of PQ. When you’re unlikely to win I use tidal disruptors, in the off chance you actually do win you have to rebuild the planet, but you haven't really damaged the planet. Mini-soldiers is my default. I use it virtually every time. It's nice when you're evil and you build the No Mercy wonder that gives you free tactics, but I use it when I'm neutral and I have to pay 500 bc as well.
I do tend to use 2 adv. troop modules per transport for 2000 troops. You don't build as many transports, but you need a bit more pop per planet to fill them. Nothing wrong with 1000 per transport though.
With DA here I may not ever have to play a v1.4 game. DA definitely has dramatic changes but most seem to be positive additions. I'm still finishing up my one and only v1.31 game. The AI has noticeably improved.
Removal of the morale bonus from the stock exchange was a bit disappointing but if you can’t win without it then perhaps you really didn’t deserve to win with it. That’s the way I look at it anyway. I actually will do a v1.4 game just to prove I can win (and earn a big income) without the stock exchange morale bonus.
