I remember seeing this on the Dark Avatar feature list, but I haven't been able to find any actual details on this. What enhancements will the combat viewer see, specifically? Will it just be further refinements to movement and weapons, or will we actually see some more complex effects and scenarios?
(...And here is where my question cunningly morphs into a suggestion...)
Personally, I think it'd be great if the number crunching combat mechanism and the visual depiction of it weren't forced to be synchronized so much. For example, some of the mass driver weapons are supposed to fire at very considerable rates, but instead, they get the same "one shot per round" as all other weapons.
While the same stat based combat could be occuring behind the scenes, the ships could be actively manuevering for position and hammering at each other with all mounted weaponry. Instead of the methodical combat we see now, we could have a cinematic light show, where the visual depiction would only line up with the stats when damage is done (explosions on the hull) or a ship is destroyed.
