Campaign Troop limit

I'm on the first game of the campaign with version 1.3.
When I get Planetary Invasion, the troop ship that comes with it has 5 troop modules. The description with the troop modules indicates that they hold 500 troops. So this ship should be able to hold 2500 troops. I launch this ship off my homeworld and it only has 500 troops on it. I go back and relaunch. I get the selection screen to define what the cargo will be. It's limit is 500.

Is the limit 500 regardless of how many troop modules you include? Is there any value to having more than 1 troop module?

Since it is a predesigned ship it actually may have only one troop module. However I'm not avare of a hard-cap on troops. I usually use 2 basic troop modules and load 1000M troops. But with autolaunch and low planet pop some transports are sometimes not fully loaded. Try to just go to the produced troop transport and double click it. You'll get a dialog asking how many troops you'd like to load. Then you'll see the max number.

If you have trouble holding up troop numbers, in increase the moral and it should go up faster. And with the troop numbers and custom ships, dont auto-lanch, wait till the planet has enough to fill the transport and then select the max number.

And belive me it is worth having a custom ship I have one that move 36 parces a week and holds 5000 troops.

The core ship designs have a lot of chrome that looks like active ship components but doesn't do anything except add visuals.

As noted by shiva, the basic troop ship design only includes one functional troop module. The rest are just to make it look pretty.

Yep- 1 real module with 4 troop modules. One of the most basic laws of ship design- its gotta look pretty

I haven't encountered 1 yet- I have built Troop Transports with 5000 troops- (5 advanced modules) Thou sometimes I have to goto 2-3 planets to fill'm up... Hope that helps

Just build your own. That way you can carry as many troops as you want. Never ever use the default ships that are in the game, unless you absolutely have to. Even after a few turns in the beginning of the game you should have enough researched to improve any existing ship design that came with the game.
