A couple of times, especially later in the game, if/when I'm taking a lot of planets, and my economy can't take it, I'll actually destroy less evolved colonies.

For your first question, once you research "Planetary Invasion" the ships you use to invade are called "Transport". That's the generic one, assuming you have the other required techs for that core ship. As CornhuskerMac said above, building your own ships is usually the best way to do it.
The spy one makes me hoard spies and never use them...just in case.
I usually use Mini-soldiers or just traditional, rarely use anything that'll damage the planet too much. May have to check out info warfare next time.
Yah, I believe that's been brought up before. My question is does the increased revenue from doing this offset the cost of the starbases, plus the maintenence of all the ships required to protect all the starbases?
Well, I finally got it to work. I just went into the shipyard, picked the ship I wanted to upgrade, and did it.
You mean he's upgrading the ships? I've never figured out hwo do that.
Yah, the fact that neutral gives you a worse bonus is odd, but the numbers may be a range and random, and it just was dumb luck.
On occasion, when I see enemy ships, and maybe my own (not sure), they'll be a fleet of ships sittign there with what looks liek a wrench symbol of some sort above them. DOes that mean they're in a repairing state, or something else? Thanks for your help. BTW, this is for DA .72(last patch pre 1.6).
A bit off topib but dealing with freighters. If you go to war, you get the pop up message that the trade route was too dangerous and had become unprofitable or whatever. Do you lose the freighter then, even if it wasn't detroyed? My guess is yes, since I can never seem to find it again, but I would think that just because they won't do that route doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to set up a new one.
That's all I do. I don't make them pretty, I just put on what I want and go. I've got an empire to run after all ha ha.
Well, they just released another beta patch, 1.6, so while some bugs were fixed, others seemed to have popped up for the moment. And as far as I know, you can switch back and for the at will. The off defense bug still seems to be a big issue. Otherwise I like it.
Will Allies break their alliance to join the Altarians if he declares war?
That's why I didn't update to the beta yet ha ha.
I believe most people design their own, so while an interesting idea, not sure many people would find it useful. No offense.
Ok, thanks. That makes it significantly more difficult, as you have to keep track of the number of each weapon as well. Assuming all of one type shot at once simplifies the "code" and I think the programming as well. Then you only have to compare 1 "group" to the various defenses. In theory it would speed up the game, since it would cut the time for battles IMO.
What I didn't get is usually when I pick a stock race, I get 10 points to distribute, but when I picked the Torians, I only got 8. I haven't upgraded to 1.6 yet. DId I miss something?
Just a question, but do you really want to be friends with the Altarians? You're more than likely to get dragged into a war you don't want to be in if they get attacked.
I was bored at work, and started making a logic tree(ie pre-programming programming) on how to calculate the battles, and I had a couple questions. 1.) Say a ship has laser 10 and another has Shield 5 and Armor 2. If the attack roll is 8 and the shield def roll is 2, does the difference of 6 carry over to the armor, or does it go to decreasing HP's? 2.) Does each individual weapon fire, or does one type of weapon fire at a time? IE if a ship has 6 lasers, does each laser fi
I wonder if it'd be easier to just halve the value for off-defense. IE if you have 10 missle def, you roll 0-5 against lasers or mass drivers. But I would think if you could program that, it shouldn't be much harder to do the square root of the number either. But I'm not a game programmer, so I don't know for sure.
I've always felt that if you obtain a tech that's past where you've researched, you shouldn't be able to use it yet, but it should be easier to research the pre-req's. For example, you've researched Laser 5, and obtain phasor 3. You can't use phasor 3, but it should only take a fraction of the usual time to research phasor 1 and 2, since you have the technology of phasor 3 to help you along.
For teh Alliance question, you have to be "Close", and I believe both people need to have the Alliance tech researched.
I don't find it overly confusing.
If something causes the gamne ot be unplayable, there's no one around fro 3 days to fix it. That's the problem.
Maybe since they were having "issues" releasing it as an official beta, they released it as a pseudopatch under 1.59 so they could get it out for people. I personally havne't downloaded .078, I prefer to wait until ater betas to update.
