It's sorta silly but it works. You just make a small or tiny ship ( tiny is best cost wise..) that has nothing, no weapons, no modules, no defense etc.. you can give it any extra stuff you want. Then you just take a planet and mass produce them. If the AI is leaning towards Hostile with you send them a couple and it will improve your relations with them. Plus side is they don't cost you an arm and a leg. They can't be used against you ( well they can but it's just a 1 hp
Starlost
Well I haven't actually tried this particular scenario out but it did give me the idea of faced with an enemy that is sending in fleets of ships ( mainly transports with a higher Soldiering/Tech Level ) that it will limit their ability for the mass production until I surpass them and then take them back. Something similar would be to destroy the starport prior to an attack. It's more for a defensive posture to keep them producing more ships. A planet that is let say nothing but factories but no
I have yet to see any of the AI's dismantle a building on any planet that they take over. Which made me start to think... Colonize a planet build a quick starport build another colony ship move on.. Dismantle starport put in whatever else you want researh, capitals unique items etc.. This way when an enemy captures a planet they don't have the ability to protect it with ships. When you capture an enemy planet remove their starports. Instead build up your planets with planet
I wonder if it would be possible to redesign the axis controls instead of dials for x/y/z positions perhaps a numerical input field coupled with a slider similar to what is used in the negotiation screen. The slider would give you more control of the axis that way or you could tweak the numbers either way would be a great improvement..
one of the things you can also try is building a planet without a starport at all. This makes it easy for you to invade should the other civs ever grab it from you. All you have to do is send ships to orbit it. and possibly build a starbase to protect it. The AI never seems to dismantle anything on a world and wihtout a starport they can't suddenly have ships in orbit protecting it. Now all you have to do is find their planets and invade and dismantle their Starports soon they wi
The item placement dials seem to be messed up at the 5 oclock position. I get the other positions without a problem but trying to get that position on the x, y or z axis just will not click in. Has anyone else had this problem yet?
ok I can understand why Stardock doesn't approve of some mods thats fine and all but perhaps someone who knows how to build a webpage with download area could have the unapproved mods there. Then we have the best of both worlds to coin a phrase. Just make it an Unofficial site for downloading. It would be great to have some form of site that has every mod thats been made available by the creators in once spot. Then we can pick and choose and rate as we like and Stardock is off the
I just want the axis rotational controls to be worked on. The circular dials right now don't want to lock on the 5 oclock position. a numeric input and slider combo like in the diplomacy's credit/influence pt's screen would be good.
Well if you research the engine tech up to and past the warp VII range you could just claim that it's based after trek and their warp power which gives your ships a 5 year running around time before they have to refuel/resupply ( or have a cargo ship come and dock with your ship/fleet etc..
something else that no body has considered... Let's say you build the Terror Star, ok the galaxy learns of this via the GNN grapevine. your a bigger target now. Terror Star will be slow moving 1 - 2 spaces per turn. Terror Stars will have no defensive ability against a fleet of ships. Now for the part that no one has thought about.. You reach your target planet to destroy. You initiate the attack and take it out. Now you have proven you will actually use this thing
Well the only problem that I have encountered with GC2 thus far is on the Ship Design screen. The 3 rotational component dials never let me position the axis at the 5oclock position on the dial. I can select the other points without a problem and it doesn't matter what the component is that I am trying it with weapon, engine module etc. What would be great would be if they instead used a rotational slider that allowed you to also input the degree of rotation in. Similar to the slider
why even bother building a freighter or fleet of freighters and be limited to the number of trade routes like 3 routes when you can accept traders from other civs. The last 5 games I've played I've had at least 2 freighters from each civ come to my planets and start routes. When I build a Freighter I position it next to the AI's largest planet so that when I have say six of them I can upgrade them to be able to handle any ship that planet has orbiting it. ( coupled with a nice conv
I just assign a heavy fighter squadron to each base module going out. builds up the base and it's not just sitting defenseless waiting to be blown outta the sky to impede your expansion.
I like the idea of shooting it while it's still on the pad. Takes out the Missle, Takes out the launching mechanism. Makes them realize they never stood a chance.. Of course China could come and say that "That was not very nice of you USA shooting that missle instead of letting us shoot it yadda yadda yadda... Just too many variables in this equation to consider. We know we can take it out on the pad 100% Take it out in flight 50/50. If you were the president and there wa
Yep you should be able to build a Galactic Wonder or something like that, which would safeguard your researched techs from espionage either that or make it so that the others have to pay through the nose to get stolen tech. Let's face it espionage is expensive and risky. Also if your not currently at war with the civ your trying to steal tech from they should be alerted at the attempt and a significant fine imposed or war starts. At least something along those lines. Bu
ah yes Ford Prefect your right on the money there! There's a little nerd in everyone.. - Lewis Scholnick Nerd used to be just a 4 letter word now it's a 6 figure income... - Unknown Red sand between my toes; Summer vacation in outer space. - Robin Williams After all as a very wise man once told me, the chicken is not infrequently the true dove of peace. - Uncle Martin

Thats a shame since Firefox is used by practically everyone nowadays. I never use IE anymore simply because of the BHO problems that are rampant with it. Plus FF is far more stable and I like the interface better personally. It probably would be a better idea to find a forum software that supports the top 4 on the market. There are tons out there that are IE, FF, Opera and Netscape friendly. Does anyone know if it also affects the Library uploads trying to use FF?
Interesting Idea. Build colony ships populate it with just 1 citizen and see if the AI will buy it. Do the same with troop transports make a swap theirs for yours etc. See if it would work. They could try and invade all they want but if they don't put more troops on it that army of one is going to have a really bad day. Has anyone ever seen the AI resupply a troop ship or colony ship for that matter. I was thinking that if you sold them a colony ship of 1 citiz
Really odd I put in spaces and paragraphs in that message and it still all runs together...
one of the best things to do is to get that medium hull fast. research armor tech and Point Defense tech as quickly as you can. then go for either beam weapons or my favorite the mass driver based Shredder. Boost up your logistics to the maximum. Don't even bother with the frieghter tech the other civs will come to you. Now will all that done and over with you can now start getting the larger hulls. put out some beams ships and get that huge hull researched fast. Practical
Ok why not try this idea then. Have an option during ship creation for the size of the weapons. It could give you a choice use miniturization for more weapons of that class or forego the miniturization for more damage thus requiring more space for the weapon. I would suggest that the larger weapon be at least no more than 3 times as strong ( since there really is no range specifics in this game for weapons systems..) Lets say we have the following: With Miniturization: a 1 pt d
I usally get the Medium hull fairly fast and then get the survey module. Put that on and a constructor module and look for the blackholes with that. I only build it if I find that particular anomoly. This way I have a point that give me a long range base from which I can start putting up more bases and get more planets. Even after the rushing wars end.
Well yes the Terror Star was in the original GC. They were cool but the UP sometimes would have a vote on the number of modules allowed for a Starbase and another vote basically outlawed the building of Terror Stars ( but you could drop out of the UP and then not be subject to their laws. ) The only real bad thing about the Terror Star in that game was that you merely created a fleet of constructors, moved them to the enemy planet and made them watch while in 1 turn you build your terror star a
I thought it was out been reading the Newtek Forums and they have a bunch of folks posting images with the nodes etc. Prolly beta testers I guess. No big deal.. hehe.. Still reading the mod guide giving me some nice insights on stuff. Still will have to figure out importing .x for custom race ships. Any chance of creating a quick LW tutorial on how your doing this. I'm saving .x out thru Modeler currently haven't tried to save it out with layout. will have to pull out that hardcopy
