I believe I'm having the same problem. I didn't do as much homework as kaitro but it crashes on start like he describes on my desktop machine (not my laptop), but after I rename my movies directory it seems to work fine.

I think the token system will attract more game companies, that is good. However, I also means the people will be less likely to try a game that is on the network. For example, I have Drengin.net or TotalGaming now. I have downloaded every game on it because, well they were free. I tried all of them, unfortunately, I have only played two of them for more than an hour. Those were the GalCiv expansion and Political Machine. The latter of which,
Wasn't TotalGaming going to release a game a month, or something like that? Am I imagining that? It seems like it's been a long time since there was a game released.
I don't know, I heard about this game at gamespot when it came out. I was interested so I walked into Electronics Boutique and bought it off the shelf, right here in Ottawa. It's possible it's no longer on the shelf. EB does not stock older games very well anymore.
At first I thought people were over-reacting. I mean there are plenty of games like GalCiv. The concept of space colonization isn't exactly new. However after looking at the screenshots, holy crap does it ever look like a rip-off.
I would very much like to hear from Mssrs. Wardell and crew.
I'm guessing their lawyer will tell them not to say anything publicly... That seems to be the way these days...
I think I must be one of a few people who really don't care about multiplayer. Unless you play on the very small maps I can not imagine ever finishing a game of multi-player. The amount of turns it takes on the larger maps is very significant, and the problem with turn-based games is everybody plays at their own speed. However, based on the responses of the players, multi-player seems to be important to a lot of people, so certainly it should be considered. I personally just can't imag
Yeah, what's weird is I was more or less inactive for 2 months, and then 2 days ago just as I was starting to get active again my metaverse score dropped 40-50K overnight. Not sure why I was getting a recalc done when I had submitted just a few days earlier.
I think I read in another thread that totalgaming was going to have a new release every month or something like that. Any chance that we could have a schedule of the next 2-3 months? Not only would it be very interesting to us who already have it, I think it would help sell new subscriptions.
Hmm. Odd, I spend most games with well over 10,000. I think I recently hit 100,000 BC in one of my games. Of course I play with economics and trade bonuses, and don't build any unnecessary buildings or military ships, so I have very low maintenance. Sometimes I get monthly incomes of 1000 BC.
I went through the list to no avail so I have emailed the log from SmartException and the save game that consistently reproduces the crash on my machine on the 2nd turn.
Under the Products tab on the Stardock website they mention TotalGaming.net
I was one of the people who voted that Drengin.net was not a good name. I think this was a good idea to change the name. The problem with Drengin.net was that the name had no indication at all of what it was. I guess I might be glad I joined Drengin.net instead of just buying AP. I think it's a good deal for that first year, but they're still going to have to be sure to make sur
Yeah! Finally got Stardock Central to work on my laptop. Now I can play AP when I travel instead of 1.2! :-) Good timing, I leave for Washington,DC Monday...
I'm pretty sure it gets bigger. Not sure at what version. I used to play Gigantic, now because of the new size, it's way too slow on my computer. One of the downsides to making it bigger I guess. I'm going to upgrade my computer in the fall anyway though. Plus I got used to be able to play the smaller "Large" maps anyway.
I get the impression that if an AI pays you tribute for peace, it will be less willing to pay it to you again in future wars. It's a fairly minor penalty.
Especially if you kill them on the 2nd more orchestrated attack.
According to Stardock, each game started has a unique ID, and can only be submitted once.
I think Stardock said you could submit twice, and it would keep the higher of the two scores. Doing so would still only net you one game though.
Doesn't seem to work very well. I rarely not accept tribute or payment to end a war. I just use it as an opportunity to prepare for a more orchestrated assault a few turns later.
Is it me, or should there be some stat for how honoUrable you are? I mean, right now, is there anything stopping you from demanding tribute for not beating someone up, and then immediately beating them up? My personal favorite would be to demand ships, and then attack them with them... Same thing for when someone pays you to end a war. Right now, I'll always accept the gifts to end the war. Then I'll end it, just long enough to finish mobilizing my troops to maximize devastation for th
The AI civs play the game like thugs, demanding tribute of anyone weaker than them, although the good civs often ask nicely. The key is never give in.
Again, I like the fact everybody has their own strategy. My is the opposite. I almost always give in early in the game, if it won't bankrupt me. I avoid wars at all costs early as I build my infrastructure, before too long, they'll be paying me tribute.
People got exactly what they asked for. Now they just have to decide if it was really what they wanted? Unfortunately, what happens is groups of empire related people are discussing topics that are not necessarily empire related in their own threads. So people who are not interested in Empires, won't ever see those discussions.
Are you sure you haven't let the AI's get all those influence resources, wonders and trade goods?
They may have some wonders, but I have at least 2, as well as all the trade goods, so it shouldn't be any worse than a tie.
The key "seemed" to be having culture SBs and/or planets in at least 5 of the 8 surrounding sectors plus significant advantage in universal influence.
Yes, but at this cost, there is no point. You're almost better off ju
Do I ever have a perfect example of how these changes just don't work. In my current game I have the ideal situation you might want to do a cultural attack. My home sector has 5 planets in 4 systems. There are 3 planets from other races in adjacent sectors. This seems like the ideal time to boost my culture to absorb the aliens on my doorstep. This would be be a perfect example of a non-cheesy use of a cultural attack right? Get a load of this! T1 | T2 | 0 ------------
A pity you cant save buildorders or put thing in them you havent reasearched yet.
Man I was thinking the very same thing when I first started playing this game! My build order for the key buildings is always the same (when available). That would be an awesome addition.
#49 by Veteran Star Pilot
Sorry, I don't know what to say. My findings are very different than what you describe. Maybe it's because you're playing at Normal, and I'm playing at Masochistic?
And half the Military upgrades cost money. All Battle Stations cost 100, Protective Shields cost 100, and half the remain attack enhancers (Dread drones cost 200, but Micro Fighters is still free, for example).
So half the military ones cost money,
I have realized that the main reason i don't see a problem in the higher cost of cultural starbases is probably, because i allways chase (and trade for) all the influence ressources i can get my hands on (on huge 3-5).
I think we're getting confused with two different things. The higher costs, and the new formula are two completely different changes made in this build. The costs one is just annoying an unnecessary in my opinion. Not to mention, inconsistent with other mod
