TotalGaming.net

Hey all. New player here (just ordered GalCiv DE ..hasn't arrived yet but have played a demo) and it looks great. I was wondering if I should go ahead and get the AP expansion or just wait till I had learned to actually play the regular game first?

Anyways, as to my question: If I subscribe to TG.net, does that mean I can download a FULL version of all those games? And, if so, how could they do that and still make money?? People buying their games is what fuels them making more and better games, isn't it?

Well, in anycase, its good to see that the community for this game is so extensive. I look forward to swapping strats and such once I've gotten the hang of it! :HOT:

Welcome to the game!

If you have GalCiv DE (which I assume you mean the Delux Edition), it should have the Altairan Prophesy expansion included.

I have a subscription to Totalgaming.net and recieve all of those games listed, and any new games that are released for the period of my subscription (1 year). Other than that, if you search the totalgaming forums, you should find something about the market strategy they are employing.

A TGN subscription also offers continuous updates as soon as they are released, and access to download (at no charge) all of the games listed there.

As to the question of money-making. Buying from TGN puts the money into the hands of the game maker, They will actually make more from purchases there than they will from store bought titles. This gives us fans a great opportunity to DIRECTLY support the makers of these great games.

I can tell you this...I know I'll be renewing my subscription when it comes up! :)

For sure! It sounds wonderful for us, just didn't sound like good marketing strategy for them ...oh well, I never claimed to be a economic master, heh.

Basically by offering it to us directly, they can avoid having to give up the vast majority of the profits to a distribution company, and in turn offer us consumers/end-users something we see as a high value. Think of the cost of burning thousands of CD's, the packaging, the warehousing, the freight to get them to the stores, and the mark up of the store that sells it to you. That is at least 3 companies pulling a share of the profit pie. With TGN, they get it all, and don't have to spend a dime other than site maintenance which is trivial in comparison to the logistics chain described above.

Wasn't TotalGaming going to release a game a month, or something like that? Am I imagining that? It seems like it's been a long time since there was a game released.

You are correct, but think that Stardock has taken some corrective measures based on the following post in the TG forums:

"Reply #23 By: Yarlen - 1/24/2005 11:13:12 AM

Greetings all,

My name is Brian Clair, I've recently been hired (last week) by Stardock to manage TotalGaming.net. For starters, I'd like to point out that World War II: Frontline Command was the November game. You can see in Stardock Central it was added on 11/5/04 (I've confirmed this with several people here).

With that said, let me assure everyone that I am working on evaluating and getting new games added to the service. I would ask that everyone be patient for a while longer while I gain my bearings on things and work on more content."

It sounds like Stardock realized they needed someone to handle TG exclusively so they went out and hired someone to get things back on track.
