Is this what it takes? BRB, upgrading.

I disagree. Sometimes (frequently, even) games do have a subtext to them that the designers may or may not have intended. Some frequently even have a subtext that is simply pervasive in society, that the designers simply passed along because it's an everyday part of some people's assumptions. I disagree that any depth of analysis of games is a waste of time, and the idea that games shouldn't be taken seriously as full-fledged media (like movies, books, comics, music, etc) is total non
Psychoak, there's too much wrong with your statement to unpack it here. I'm pretty sure I don't have anything to say to you that you'd want to hear at this point.
It doesn't seem likely.
Minor Race: I'd say it was a little ridiculous that a 24th century mining vessel was well equipped that it could easily best ships (i.e., the Kelvin) only about 150 years older than it. And the entire Vulcan defensive grid, and so forth. This was explained in the Countdown comics - Nero's vessel was equipped with weaponry derived from Borg technology. The setup for how that happened was also related to the supernova and Nero's des
Except for the fact that supernovas propagate at light speed, which means it would take years for the radiation to reach Romulus (if not decades, centuries, or millennia), yeah, supernovas can pretty thoroughly threaten life in its neighborhood. The scenario is so scientifically implausible that I have trouble picking one particular element as being worth complaint over any others. It's Star Trek, science in Star Tre
Oh, I know, but I wouldn't just come out and tell someone to install a new OS. I got the impression that the error the OP was getting wasn't consistent - that it was just a few games (newer) and not all. I know I've had some issues with certain game installers not playing well with my OS (despite the game itself working fine with my OS).
Neilo speaks the truth, btw, although much more bluntly than I ever would. :) If you decide you want to go to DA and Twilight, you really will need XP. Plus, in general, you want XP at the very least to run most modern games. There is an unfortunate side effect in terms of losing the ability to run some older games, but there's ways around that, too.
Okay, try Stardock Central instead. That should work on Windows 98 and will also download/update GalCiv 2. I used it on Windows 98 when I purchased GalCiv and used it until a month or two after Twilight of the Arnor was released.
I think there's a lot of evidence, much of it provided by former Scientology adherents, as to what's really going on inside that religion. It's...not a pretty picture. It needs serious reform. Leauki, I would argue that religion is a choice - you choose to be with your people rather than stand apart or against (two separate ideas there). That doesn't make it superficial or less profound for being that choice. I just think it's too easy to naturalize the idea that certain choic
Transformers was fun enough that I own the DVD. I mean, I don't disagree with the VGA Cats review, but at the same time, I don't agree that it was bad. Although, I think it's okay for people to take their entertainment as seriously as they want. It's entertainment, you shouldn't feel obligated to like it if you, well, don't like it.
I resisted Impulse for several months, but once I switched over, I found I preferred it greatly over SDC. It's just more aesthetically pleasing and a bit easier (for me) to navigate. I don't mind the webby part, but I mainly use it to update (or install, as when I switched computers last winter) my games.
Zyx, I thought this would amuse you. Having seen it, I completely agree that Ebert's review is terrible and out of left field. I liked the movie. I liked that they hung a lampshade on a particular Trek trope just before Kirk and Scotty beamed up. I like that the stage is set for a reboot that can go in new directions without needing an explicit tie to the original series - not
No problem. :) I've seen people say it's fixable, but I haven't seen any instructions on where to find the scenario. What's funny is how all the maps also assign the Dread Lord worlds to Krynn... but the game assigns those to Dread Lords automatically, as the Dread Lords are in the scenario, and the Krynn aren't.
Wow, I must have been thinking of some other upgrade. Glad you found the option, Gail. :)
I posted this in another thread, but: You can fix it with the scenario editor: Just click on the "Editors" button on the Twilight launch menu, then select "File" and "open." You need to find the install directory for GalCiv2. On my install, it's: C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\GalCiv2 I suspect the install directory will probably be for most people: <
Don't be unfair to Ebert. He's a huge gorram geek. Look up his review of Gamera: Guardian of the Universe sometime.
Okay, so I've made it pretty far, although my allies suck. I somehow missed an incoming DL transport and got invaded by ...2100 dread lord troops? WTH? All the other transports I'd seen up to that point had 5-10 on them.
I've played games with 25% creativity in which I constantly had creative procs pushing me through the tech tree. I've also had games with 60% creativity where I barely learned any techs early. Altarian + I purchased War Rooms from the Arceans. That said, I nearly always pick it.
And how can you rightfully claim that the church is infalliable when the words that it relies on to communicate the message have changed over time? That the various translations have themselves been shaped by identifiable human agendas? Are you aware that the Catholic Church does not condemn evolution ?
How can the church be infallible when it is made up of flawed humans? The church does not exist outside of humanity. If no one was a member of any Christian church, that church would not exist. Catholicism isn't made up of buildings and dogma, it's made up of people . And by "flawed" I do not strictly mean that they sin in a general sense. I mean that they bring their prejudices to the table, and they make those prejudices dogma. That they introduce their own agendas and use r
You managed to get it working for a day or two, and if you hadn't done anything, it would have remained totally down. Thanks for updates and all. :)
EviliroN, The pirate thread will never ever ever end. However, Stardock is not primarily a game company. :) It seems to be primarily about providing apps to prettify Windows, with games as a rapidly increasing side project (esp. as Stardock's been providing an online sales venue for games since...what, Totalgaming.net? Stardock Central?). That said, gamers don't stop being everything else we are when we're gaming, either, and off-topic is off-topic. Protocept00
Lula: "Here's a thought.... the conflict isn't between science and religion or science and God or science and the Church...the conflict is of the true scientist with the sciolist, the pretender, who has a little scientific knowledge, and seeks to refute the unchangeable laws of God as they apply to religion and morality ." And how many humans have the hubris to claim that they understand such things, and then use the
The Iconians waited for the Yor to invade their homeworld. The Arceans expanded, but the Dread Lords took their planets. The Altarians grabbed a couple worlds and the Torians made their one world into a fortress. I sold all but diplomatic techs to my allies. I remember when I played before (in Dread Lords) that my allies were pretty effective, so I turtled up and researched, and sold them everything...but they really sucked. I didn't build any star bases. They sent a wave of t
