I'm playing TA, version 1.96 and I've been looking everywhere for that option to not remove functional components when upgrading a ship. This is all I have on the interface screen (2 images show with the scrollbar on the right as far up and as far down as it will go)
Can someone please point out the obvious?

In my game, it's right under "Ship Designer" heading, and directly under the
Rotate Parts" selector.
Beneath that are "Save ships to hard drive" and "auto design ships for player."
I seem to recall, but could be mistaken, that those options were added with 2.0.
What is your monitor resolution size, and is the game set to that size?
I ask because I remember reading a post here that small resolution size led to options being "bumped" off, and in your screenshots it appears your options take up all the space available. For me, the options only take up two columns:
So, as a quick experiment, see if you can increase your screen resolution, increase the resolution in the game's Video settings to match, and see if the option shows up.
(Bugs me to no end that I cannot find that post. I found it while just browsing one day, and now that I really need to find it, I can't)
My screen resolution is 1680x1050. Game res was set 1024x768. Will try changing and see what happens

Changing game res up to the screen's resolution made the option appear. Thanks very much.
I didn't realise the game could use widescreen. So many can't.
Wow, I must have been thinking of some other upgrade.
