Go War Party if you launch a game knowing you want to start some fights. Otherwise, I'd say it's the worst party choice. Long story short, even War Party AI ships are little threat to your core empire in early phases. Your ships are inferior, but adequate. By the time their ships might be a threat, your tech advantage has you catching up is ship quality too. Just my experience so far. Then again, I just now DL'ed 1.03. So I'll see if this has changed. ;) ~SDC~

I've had numerous head-scratching difficulties getting Stardock to install right, then to recognize my CD serial #. Etc etc etc. Anyway, got frustrated, wrote a (needlessly) irate email, have not played GalCiv for over a week. Anyway, today I decide, what the heck, and lauch Stardock again. Lo and behold, it connects and recognizes my logon. That means the folks at Strategy 1st must of responded to me (unfairly) irate email. So, thank you Strategy First! Great customer s
Empire nemes I've used. The Age of Aquarius (Pacifists) of Wavy Gravy The Compasionate Conservatives (Evil War Party) of King Dubbyah The Corporation (Mercatilists) of B. Vaire Pelt The Space Dolphins (Populists) of Flipper Lastlaugh OK, maybe it's just me that finds this amusing. ;p But, I too, would like to use something besides USS. Even though I usually don't name ships. Except ships I give to alien cultures ... I like to see if they made a differ
Dare I taunt Happy Fun Ball? :)
Leto clearly seems to have some biases ... as do we all. But some people are better at keeping their biases at arm's length. FWIW, I tend to disagee with Leto in a few key areas. He prefers flashy visuals over solid game design. To me, a good game is a good GAME, even if it has Pong-quality graphics. Leto seems to belong to that subset of gamers that expect every game to conform to their preconceptions. Another subset of gamers look forward to a new game generating new conc
I played a bit more after posting the above. I got an in-game blurb (finally) telling me that my culture was begining to dominate the galaxy. And that if I could keep it up for TWENTY-FOUR more months, I'd win the game. Twenty-four more turns? Rediculous. Earth has like, 75% of the galaxy population, 199 of the 216 sectors are blue, and 98% of the toal United Planets vote. Etc etc etc. And now, I STILL have to play out 24 more turns?!?!?!?! In my mind, you want the game t
Well, still not getting cultural victory to work. It goes from a percentage, to"12mos", on the cultual victory status readout. But it not not count down the 12 remaining months. And this time I am making usre I am not at war with anyone. ;) Anyway, it takes hours to finish a game after it is slam-dunk won. This is NOT a good feature ... please consider some system to make lopsided games end faster.
Havig played a bit more, I tend to agree that the AI decisions are made based upon the military rankings, not the economic ranks. I think some of my impressions are colored by the fact all my games have ended rather quickly. I have not had a game go past the introduction of dreadnaughts. That is, the game continues, but it has already been won. Just a matter of having the game programing admit it. ;) Ah well, next step is to play on the biggest map, I guess. :)
I gotta say, I am hesitating to read a lot of threads here. This is because I am enjoying the game so much, I don't want to spoil the little surprises the game has in store for us. ;) So I did not read all of the very nice original posting. But I would like to chime in with a few things. > I have not played with the 'green thumb' option, but it always seemed to be the most powerful of the options. > Restarting the game over and over until your starting system
Well, only played two games to completion so far, so still just scratching the surface. But some early feedback FWIW. Dumb AI category: ALiens are fanatical about killing Scout and Sensor Drones. I often will see 3-4 Dreadnoughts slavishly following one of my sensors. Meanwile, they remain unconcerned about my nearby warships/transports. I honestly think I could keep my Earthlings alive with just Scouts and Gravity Accelerators. Dumb AI #2: Diplomacy is too powerful. Ali
Ach! Here's my thread. The search feature did not find it, so I thought my post had failed. Annnnnnyway.... Thanks for the clarification. And YES, please make this more obvious. I have been quite impressed with this game so far. The alien races come across as having personalities. And of course I love the humor and Simpson's references. Annnnd, the first time one of the aliens called me a cheese eating surrender monkey, I spent the next five minutes soaking my carpet wit
I've played two games to completion now. Both time I ended up the predominant force, with every sector my color. But each time I was forced to grind out the extra turns capture every non-allied system. The cultural victory seems broken. I must admit that this game, when at its best, does a great job of creating an immersive game atmosphere. But it sure as heck is tiresome playing extra hours to finish out an obvious victory. Thanks
Shortage of cash? I've not played a ton of games yet, but cash has not been a problem. Diplomacy is so powerful that the dimwit aliens will pretty much give you everything you need if you just ask. ;p
I just experienced a crash to desktop last night. Fortunately I had reset autosave to every turn just an hour or so before. But I am less than enthused to se such unstable software. Is this a big problem? ARE THE DEVS FIXING THIS????? >:(
Sorry if this has been reported. Did not have the stamina to read the entire thread. Bug: Could not get a cultural victory! Had to sieze every last star system in order to end my first game. (:( Was playing Merchants. Alies were all at the 2nd-hardest difficulty, and all alien alignments were random. 12x12 map, planet availability Occasoinal. I was once given a blurb saying I was on the verge of achiveing a cultural victory. This was about the time when I had
