RANDOM EVENT SLIDERS I can't tell you how many times I've been hit by a random event that pissed me off to no end. Pirates are one of the worst. Influence increase can suck. And of course there's the good old "The war has expanded."

The Particle Beam description is still that wierd atmostphere breaking, phoned-in "high energy beam weapon.." Has my game not updated properly?

So, Impulse is telling me I need to uninstall, right? Fair enough. It subsequently tells me that I'm missing my uninstall file or something and that I need to use add/remove programs. Fine, I say, even though I'm a little nervous that it might kill my save file too. But GalCivII doesn't show up in add/remove programs. None of it does. What do I do?

Perhaps this is one of those questions I should know the answer to, but what do I do if my turn button is disabled for no discernible reason?

I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that in previous incarnations of GC2, there were balance issues with races. The Yor and Thalans were unstoppable, the Drengin were pushovers, and calling the Iconians doormats would have been a compliment. Obviously I've started on my first Immense, Tough, and fairly dense game of TA, and have my own observations, but first I'd like to hear: Has anyone else experienced "pushover races" in TA? How about overpowering races? Or, have there been any reversals

I hope I'm back in time to thank you, Kryo, for your patience in dealing with noobs like me :)

I love GC2 to death, but after I switched laptops, I found to my horror that it lacks anything analogous to a mouse wheel. I can't zoom in and out at all, a problem that also exists in other games. I would hate to play a Huge or Immense galaxy at default zoom. If there is no way to rebind, I need a mod for it. ):

When starting a game, what exactly determines the number of inhabitable planets? If I choose a medium amount of inhabitable planets, does that mean there will be approximately x planets in the galaxy, guaranteed? Or, does it mean x percent of the amount of planets chosen in the "Planets" space will be inhabitbale? And is that total planet count relative to the amount of stars?

As the others have said, I wouldn't be surprised if GalCiv 2 lasts for many years after TA. I mean, people are still creating new content for System Shock 2, and that didn't even have a supported fan-content system like GC2 does.

Ah, sorry... The game settings vary, but I generally want around 10 planets per civ and I play Normal.

I'm just wondering when ship texture updates are due for all the races. I haven't played the recent betas, so for all I know, the Terrans and Drengin may already have recieved their makeover. If not, how is this going to work? Will upcoming race re-introductions be complete with textures, or will the textures come with a later update?

In the last few weeks, I've tried various strategies with a custom race, all of which ended in total disaster. My first thought was to completely steamroll anyone who got in my way, which ended in everyone dogpiling on me. Next, I went for an all-out colony rush, which ended in massive debt and absolutely no way to get out of debt. No one even had to declare war on me before I just gave up. Then I went for the culture flip path with a Torian-esque race of nymphomaniacs. I didn'

Well, I'm stuck. There is no way to upgrade my graphics, and the planet/asteroid dense environments I usually play on run so slowly as to be just unplayable. Turning off background stars and planet textures seems to work-- a little. Looks like I'll run with most graphics off until TA.

Well, a friend helped me to disable most of Vista's features-- giving me an fps boost of about 5-10 fps depending on how busy the screen is. This, of course, is tested on guild wars-- I've yet to check my fps with DA. And, thanks for the tip! I'll definitely check to see if my graphics can be upgraded.

I wonder, what is being done about the minor frustrations that were present in the old ship building system? One of the worst has been fixed, judging by the screenshot of the new system, with all those nice parts laid out for you on the left. Being able to see three (more?) times as many pieces in one nice array is a lovely change. However, I occasionally found myself frustrated with the building system. The most apparent was when just moving my trackpad even one pixel off target would

My computer is a 1.7 duo with 2gb and Vista, so it runs DA rather slowly. Any situation that's even remotely graphically demanding (Fleets, planets, asteroids) makes everything get all choppy, and scrolling around became torture. Not only that, but CPU heat makes things get steadily worse until I just have to stop. So, imagine my glee when I tried TA Beta 1, where the game defaulted to low resolution, and everything had been optimized. Needless to say, Jane and I are both excited for TA

I haven't played the Beta 2 yet, but I would like to ask if the "crash on tech trade" bug was fixed. I encountered it in Beta 1 despite the note saying that it had been fixed.

In every game, I try to make a balance between good and evil races. It's a tricky thing, though, as-- just as in real life-- good and evil are subjective. A technically good race could suddenly decide to be double-crossing, militaristic, opportunist bastards. Case in point: The Torians. This brings me to what you guys have found regarding the role of races in normal play. The Altarians and the Terrans are programmed to be quite peaceful, yet on higher difficulties you shouldn't be surpr

A note, think of the lower difficulties as a "sandbox." The AI will be utterly useless at this level, and even if you spend the entire game barely hobbling along, they won't do anything threatening to your empire. Use this first game to learn about the interface. Poke through every feature you can find, buy and sell stuff in negotiations, and declare war with wild abandon. You'll quickly learn how do do everything.

How long do games last? Up to you, although IMO longer games are better. I've finished games in under an hour. I've also played games that took all weekend, plus hours of procrastinating on homework on weekdays. Now that an even bigger galaxy size is being offered to us in TA, you can expect that estimation to rise. How long is a single turn? Again up to you. I average between 40 and 3 turns an hour. If you're playing in a huge map with a lot of inhabitable planets, th

Beautiful. Thanks Kryo, this is the second time you've helped me with download issues. If not for you, I'd still be struggling to play Dark Avatar! This place rocks ^^

Sweet gods on the Celestial Plane this is annoying. Stardock, after downloading GC2_TA, immediately starts all over from 0%. I've poked through my files and cannot find the TA beta. My virus filters are all disabled and I had no trouble updating heightmaps or downloading Dark Avatar. Please help?
