What a totally worthless ability that is. What about the "mutual destruction" rule? Does it leave your ships with 1HP, or something?

So, the Super Warrior ability denies enemies the chance to attack in the same round that they are destroyed?
Wait a minute, let me see if I've got this right. If both ships are destroyed in the same salvo, then the game does some calculations (it would be really nice to know what they are) to decide who survives. "Super Warrior" is supposed to give you the first strike in every battle, and if I'm interpreting this correctly, it gives you an extra salvo, given that normal "turns" are simultaneous, with ships getting off one last shot even if they would be destroyed. Either my interpret
Cargo hulls don't seem like a good idea to me-- loading a cargo hull with as many Laser Vs or Plasma units as will fit is expensive and it gives you a worthless ship. The poster above has a point, though-- in the early-mid game, would you hypothetically be able to use cargo hulls in an attempt to nuke the enemy in a single salvo? *Edit* And how would this strategy interact with the Super Warrior ability?
I saw that you also posted about having medium level intel on any opponent you decide to attack. Try a few games where you dont bother doing that and you will save a TON of cash. Spying, as a whole, is worthless.
Actually, the reason I do so much spying is because that way I know what weapons and defenses they have, and it also gives me an idea of their Soldiering ability. I've had great success (on Normal difficulty obviously) with surprising enemies with ships that they can't e
Thank you all for your excellent advice! The pointer on not rush-buying trade centers was excellent. I commonly twiddle with my sliders for no other reason than because I'm impatient, but one strategy that I've had tremendous success with is pumping up my civilization's Social and Research output. This lets me build stuff faster in the very beginning, and when I'm pumping out colony ships it helps me to quickly improve planets. I also tend to completely neglect warship-related research
After playing a few games, I've run into some frustrations. To me, the game's overall difficulty takes wild swings in either direction. You see, I play GalCiv2 because I'm so bad at RTS, but playing a complicated game like this makes me feel good about myself. But, it looks like I would make a pretty bad ruler of a race. Mind you, all of this is based on NORMAL difficulty. To name a few things that have me grinding my teeth... The game's balance seems to swing wildly b
I've had a quite similar problem, but for me it happens after about three or four hours. It doesn't really bother me; I always assumed that it was CPU heat taking its toll on my machine.
Hi everyone. I'm just starting to get the hang of this game. Or, not really, as my last few attempts at a Gigantic universe ended in early, crushing defeat on Normal difficulty. My skill level aside, I'd like to start playing in the Metaverse, but there's something holding me back: I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing. A metaverse "empire" is like a team, is it not? And the points I earn from metaverse play would improve said empire's rank? Point is, I need a Metaverse
None-- it continuously reads "Processing Data."
Yes, probably. I, for one, find that the Ranger's huge attack power is a big factor in the game. Generally I don't use mass drivers, I just focus on either missiles or beams. Thus, a Ranger that's packing an incredible amount of whatever-those-are is a nasty surprise for my enemies. I always make ships that move really fast, so I always thought that the Ranger was slow. Sometimes I actually give the Lucky Ranger away in negotiations. They're worth a lot to the AI.
I'm running Opera with Vista, and somehow the site absolutely refuses to upload my 128x128 jpg. Has anyone else run into this problem, and what can I do about it?
I'm not running DA unfortunately, though everyone on these boards is, so I'm planning on getting it soon enough... as soon as this site stops denying my card.
You missed to follow the 4X strategy - expansion by extermination. For several years of a distinct tech advantage you fought SHIPS of the AIs that attacked you, instead their economy. In those "fast forward a few years" you should've CONQUERED PLANETS of most of close AIs, so they'd lost the economic ability to successfully fight you. Then Drath would be just a small nuisance, because you'd be several times bigger than they. A quick note-- A major factor
After unsuccessfully going for a research victory and then trying a new game, I had the exact same situation with the Iconians, Altarians, Torians, and Thalians. I was able to make peace but it didn't last long and again I was fighting an uphill battle, but this time against huge 20+ point Torian fleets, using fleets of three Medium fighters geared for high speed. Yet again their shields fell short of protecting them, yet again I found myself locked into a hopeless conflict with no way out. The
Reading this thread I'm slapping myself for not maximizing the advantage of the Cesta. The sad fact is that I actually had upwards of five Cestas prowling the skies, they had three HyperWarp drives apiece, and I even had a level 14 Cesta that I was using to clear out Iconian and Torian fleets when they came to pester me. The more I read, the more I feel like a total idiot for not using them to their fullest when they were the scariest things in the galaxy. As I said, it was my first gam
I'm actually not playing DA, so I don't know that removing the Drath would have that much of a difference on game flow. As for the notion that I should've quickly stolen planets before the Drath got big, the problem was that my forces were spread thin: If I wanted to form a fleet of two or three Cestas, I would have to leave a world or two unattended. More often than not these were garbage worlds, but I was still unwilling to let them use even those few panels. Thanks for all your help-
In my first game playing on a Gigantic map, on Normal difficulty, with 9 other races, I've run into what you might call some considerable difficulty. Please bear with me; I know this is boring but I feel that the best way to get help is to give enough information. Thank you in advance for your advice. A quick overview of this piece of the galaxy: Everyone has already been conquered except for me, the High Amoria, the Terrans, the Torians, the Drath, the Altarians, the Iconians, and the
Hello. As you can see, this is a noob thread, and I am a noob needing help with two completely different subjects. First... How do I enter an alliance with another race? And second, is it possible to combine two mods? That is, can I have the Blank Hull System Mod, plus General Pants' Racial Penalties? I've tried it almost every way I could think of/
Off topic-- Is it possible to change the description of your custom race? For some reason, my custom race's description is the same as that of the Terrans.
For some odd reason I've been unable to properly download any GalCiv2 updates. The icon and taskbar denote my game as "GalCiv 1.2" and when I try to update it, lo and behold, Stardock finds updates. However, Stardock seems to download one small part of the package and then stop, permanently reading "loading file list." If I cancel and try again, it repeats but with a different filename being downloaded. Also, my game seems to have some odd issues-- maybe they're fixed in the up
