The great thing about this game is that there is no formula. And it should stays like this. There is not a single way to beat this game, like in Civ for example. LEAVE the 300% food titles there. Just because most people wont use it, doesnt take it out of the game. Its still a option, and that is good.

I give more distinct names. Since I dont care much about design, I usually just do one and upgrade it. Sometimes I have about five or more versions of the same ship. The most used one is called Lotus. Its a medium class human design that has a ring around it that ressembles a lotus. The first name was Battle Array but I changed once I noticed it looked like a lotus. The others are called SunCrow (small), Ephelion (big) and the biggest is Icarus (large). There is another medium
BTW, what does the Allow AI to use CPU-intensive algorithms option do? Increase the AI inteligence?
Its common for they to show up, and they are always strong than you are. Usually people pull back and increase their technology. That way they can launch ships that have the same level of power. That way you´re able to win back the space. Anyway, probabily the pirates apeared because the game was being too slow or easy. Usually they turn up when it has been peacefull for too long.
It could also be a military combat star base. There are some modules/upgrades that increase the attack/defense ratings of the ships inside its area.
It looks to be a mega event, and based on the way you´re playing. Yes, I too got the pirate mega event, but it was a single fleet, that albeit powerfull, was easily crushed. Looks like the HUGE pirate mega event only happens when the entire universe is at peace, and there havent been a lot of wars for a while. Maybe your girlfriend was playing such a easy game that the AI went hardcore with the pirates. But I´ve heard it before, and it did ruined some games.
Its a option just above the minimap. THere is a option there to show the area of influence. Its a bit of "cheating", because if you let it on from the star of the game, you get to know where the enemy is and their homeworlds before even starting to explore the map. So, its all about choices.
For you to upgrade your ship, you would need a new design made by you that has the components you want. So, if you have a current ship and want to make it better, go to the shipyard, chose the current design and chose the option Upgrade. There, you do your changes and save it. Usually I save with the same name of the previous model, but add the MkI or MkII name to the ship´s name. That way I know its a more enhanced version. To upgrade your ships to the next new level,
Its ok, it was interesting up to now. Hope you get another 18 rate planet in your next game.
I have the same question. Sometimes they look too weak for me.
What the hell, those things never happened to me. And when I got the pirate megaevent, it was a single fleet, that albeit powerfull, was easily dispached with a single fleet of those I had. Never got the plague. Never got the peacekeepers, nor many of the others. And I´ve played more than 3 games.
What about population. How much is good? And if you do add more planets to a game, that increase the points you will get in the end, doesnt it? So I guess you could "cheat" if you add hundreds of planets to a gigantic game.
I thought it could be esperanto. Didnt noticed it was latin. Anyway, its a good song. Too bad I´ve listened to it dozens of times.
Also, make sure you customize your colony ships. Add at least two engines to it. That way you will be able to colonize planets that sit very close to the enemy, even if he is trying to reach them too. And I agree with the survery ships. Get sensor and customize explorer ships with sensors and send them to auto survey. YOu will get some bonuses and specially money, that will suply you. BTW, I do rush colony ships, and usually pay 1000 in each. I usually rush 3 or 4 of them, and fill them
Dunno, I have about 200k and I already dont know what to do. Anyway, I consider a good economy when you can do everything you want without needing to work too hard. I dont like micromanagement that much, so I hardly rush things, even if I do have the money. Barely upgrade ships too. Actually my fleets are quite weak and I only build ships when I´m preparing for war. Only god knows why they dont atack me, even if I´m playing at the inteligent A.I. setting.
I never played DL, I went straight to DA, so I cant compare. One thing I´ve always done is trading. Very early. I dont see how its bad. In the start, even those 7,8 credits can help a lot. When you get a good trading method, you can get more than 1.000 credits/week on trade alone, which is awesome at least until the near end of the game. I dont think morality racial bonus are worth it. Ok, they may be good at the start, but once you start to get technologies that enhance your m
I dont know, if it didnt scale, that really would make things go too slow. I´m playing on a huge map and it has been almost 10 years game time, and I´m beggining to destroy the other races. Ok, I took a lot of time tech evolving, but with range issues, it would take forever just to get all the colonies together. Anyway, even if you mod it, it could always go to waste if you get the "Unlimited Range" precursor Megaevent.
Dunno, I´m an early gamer, which means I´ve been trying every kind of victory. The ones left are the conquering and technologic.
There are way too many techs, it would be impossible to make an AI that knows what each technology does, and their value.
Never happened yet with me. Either they start and dont do much (maybe build a space station here or there), just to get conquered, or they show up in mid game, where they get totaly slaughtered by a bigger civ.
50, 250 star bases? We are talking about the biggest map avaible, right? Because, otherwise, I hope I never get that bored.
I guess what he meant is that the Romans "stole" the technology from other nations and made them popular. And that concrete is the only real thing they created. I mean, most of the stuff they got from the greeks.
The game I´m currently playing is going on in a huge setting, with 9 civilizations. For the first time, I chose a lot of "evil" options when colonizing planets, because they gave me huge bonuses (like the scientist that wants to be alone). Ok, I went into a colony rush and got a planet very close to the Altarian Resistance. And, right in the middle of my territory, there was a 13 grade planet owned by a minor civilization. Since I colony rushed everywhere, and I shared borders
I have never played the campaign,, mainly because I like the sandbox game more. What I know is that the game run on percentages. That means buildings usually improve your planet by percentages, not by concrete numbers. The Market Center improves your planet by a percentage too, so the improval it makes depends in many other factors, and if your planet doesnt produce much to start with, it wont help much. Anyway, cant you trade? Trade is one of the best (if not the best) way to
Not all of them. But I won by getting alied with three civilizations. And yes, I do think a high military is important, because its one of the most important factors when rating how powerfull you are.
