The problem is that you played a game that was way too big. I´ve never played in a game that big. You have 120 colonies alone? That means the enemy had some of their own too. I never played a game that had 100 planets to be colonized to start with. I guess the maximum was about 70. And normal is way too easy.

This game offers you freedom: You can do whatever you want. Usualy, at higher levels, you dont do what you want, but what you NEED to win the game. So, well, you will have to play a bit to learn how to play it. Its not as easy as Civ4.

What? The Torians always act like pussies in any game I play. And the Arceans always become my allies. Anyway, in every ship model, you can see the engine in it. Every model comes with a built in engine, and that is how they can move.

Its strategy, because otherwise you wouldnt be able to beat the game in Suicidal and the other hardest settings. You cant beat them if you dont specialize your production sometimes. Math? No, that is control over your ressources, and I like that. You have control over individual planets if you focus your production, which is something I do a lot. Skilled soldiers going back and forth though diferent sectors? Look like you dont know what happened during World War II. An

Im not entirely sure, but I know the basics. First, always keep your production at 100%. If you leave it like that, even if you´re not using it in military or social, that extra production gets used in another area. The sliders are ways to specialize the production. With 100% research you will put all your effort on research, and it will skyrocket, but the other two will get extremely damaged. You can do it if your planets arent building ships or improvements, but its not wise.

It is addicting because you have a lot of options. That, at least, was my reason. You can play a lot of games, in diferent ways, and they will all be diferent. You can choose diferent methods, possibilities, empires, choices, enemies, map sizes, number of planets, anomalies, random events... Every new game feels fresh. Few games have this much replay value.

Man, all the tips in this forum are quite good. Read them and TRY them. You will only learn how to play if you try new methods and new possibilities. About learning, anyone can learn. I´ve been playing strategy games for over 15 years (started with Dune 2) and I´m still learning stuff. Unless you´re really OLD (like 90) you can still learn.

Yeah I always wondered what was that. I guess there is a special component that ressembles exactly the colony module. Anyway, I think a colony ship with more than 500 million is useless.

I dont know exacly, but I believe one of the bigest factors is how much better/worst you are compared to the other civilizations. For example, if you have a extremely huge military while everyone is still strugling to build a few ships, you will get a lot of points. But if you have the same fleet, and the enemy have some similar to yours, you get much less points.

Dont focus on technology so early. The most important in the begining is social, to develop the new colonized worlds, and also military, to start pumping out colony ships everywhere. Listen, in the start, your economy will SUCK. That is why you start with 5.000. Have you ever seen a game where you start with so much money? I sure havent. That is because you will have to strech yourself a lot, and lose a lot of money in the start. Hell, I´ve gone to -499 quite a few times. And if you are

1.000 prizes are quite common. Sometimes you get the 500, 250, 100, and even the "Today was my lucky day" 1 award. They do help a lot. That is why I rush the colony ships. Otherwise I would end without money. I rush the customized colony ships while I research Sensors, and when I get sensors I build the survey explorers and start making cash. Meanwhile the colony ships are on their way already.

Please, you´re doing it all wrong. Colony ships FIRST. I rush at least 3 to 4 colony ships, with enhanced engines and sometimes life suport systems. 5 explorers? That is just plain dumb. Not even if they had survey systems in them, something that takes time to discover. Build 4 to 5 colony ships first, then you may consider building one explorer with the survey ability. An explorer without survey is just plain useless.

I got the plague too. Took some time for them to research it, but some did. The Drengin didnt. I´m kind of glad, because I was playing in Ultimate dificulty and the Drengin were conquering everyone.

Also get sensors quickly and build some survey ships at the start to explore. Customize every ships, including the colonizers, and add engines to them. Even the regular constructor gets better with some engines.

So many good games, I have to back up most of them. Too many of them to individualy point.

I´ve seen the AI colonize PQ 2 planets, which is something I wouldnt do. Now, I guess Ill go even for the PQ 1, just to see how they end. Sometimes I even think if its worthy to colonize Mars, that is such a shitty planet.

38 Replies 17,766 Views

Really? Do they grow to be that big? I dont see these planets being colonized too, and I dont colonize them. Never thought of them as bugs, but ways to show that they are quite useless. Also, it takes quite a while for the techs to be allowed, and once they are, its much easier to just capture enemies planets.

Yep, look like there are no more big toys. Look likes you can get some special weapons if you choose the "Evil" alignment, but I have never used them.
