I name my home planet as the town I live in, then name other planets names of other towns around me in the proper geographic position. That way I know where the planet is on the map without having to search for it. I just use the Colony screen to see what everyone is up to, but have found it nice to get a feel for where the planet is located just by knowing it's name.

I'm 47 and my first computer was a Tandy with no hard drive and 2 floppys. My favorite game back then was "Red Storm Rising", a sub simulation. I too remember the day my Dad brought Pong home...we played for hours. That hooked my on gaming. In the arcade Asteroids was my game. I spent way too much money on that, but usually had high score whereever I played. I usually only play strategy games, and love the 4X games. MOO was my favorite until GalCiv2. I get an hour or two in each day, but
If they are your trade routes, you can get a bigger boost I believe by puttting the econ bases closer to the destination planet since the route increases value the further from it's home planet. <IMG src="http://altmeta2.thegalacticcore.com/
I try to pick a planet farthest from the other races that is suitable for my "trade" planet. I put a lot of economy upgrades on that planet then build all of my freighters there. In my most recent game I have four economy starbases around my trade planet. How many do you usually put? Is there an effective limit to how many you can put around that planet? I also look for places where multiple trade routes intersect and put an eco-base or two there also. My understanding is that you can get
I applogize up front if this has been covered already. How do ships repair themselves? Does it happen automatically or do you need to put them into orbit around a planet? How long does it take to repair them (ie: 10% per turn?). Thanks in advance for the input.
So if I turn that option off, it will leave my ship "as is" and I can upgrade from there? That would be great, I will look for it. Thanks!
Most of the time when I want to upgrade a ship it's just to add the newest engine or smaller weapon to tweak them a bit. I was suprised at first when I hit the upgrade button and was presented with a blank hull. I thought that it would show the ship I have then allow me to remove an older engine or weapon an replace it with the newer version. It would seem that this method would make more sense than having to "rebuild" the ship as it were. Anyone else have any thoughts on this one?
Excellent. Thank You.
Is it documented anywhere or does anyone know the exact benefits you get from mining galactic resources? I always look for the green economic ones and try to max them out as soon as possible but it occurred to me today that I don't know exactly how much it is benefiting my economy. Same for the military, influence, etc. I assume it is worth doing but it would be nice to know for example, the exact increase my economy gets from having 3 modules on one economic resource. Thanks in advance for
Try changing your race colours. I had a problem with the Terran colours when I first started playing the game, with it's dark blue, but it was much better when I switched to a light brown colour. Incidentally, Dark Avatar has a perforated cirlce around the edges so it's much easier to see now. I didn't know that your race color changed the color of the circle. I have been playing Terran with the blue, so will try a color change. Thanks a lot for the in
I am having a real hard time seeing the "influence circle" around my constructors that show what it's sphere of influence will be when I build a starbase. I've fiddled around with the ambient light, contrast, and brightness settings but haven't had any luck making the circle easier to see. Anyone else with this challenge and/or solutons?
I wish there were info in the actual game that show what intelligence level each opponent is on in the Foreign, Report screen. There is. Look on the stats page. I didn't know this. I'll check it when I get a chance to play. Thanks! I am playing GalCivII version 1.4 if that matters...
I seem to recall reading a post a month or so back where someone said that using the Control-N feature to respawn a galaxy reset your opponents to a lower intelligence level. Can anyone confirm or deny this for me? Am ramping up my foes intel level for my next game but need to use my Cntrl-N feature to get a decent starting point. Thanks in advance for your help!
I use the names of ships from Star Trek. Then I put the stats in the description window ie: Enterprise NCC-1701A (basic battleship) and in the description I put 240 242 9S 3.2R 3SR where the 240 is the attack stats (beam, missle, gun), 242 is defense, 9S is speed, 3.2R is Range, and 3SR is sensor range. That way I can see the stats at a glance and try to keep things straight. It works for me!
I'm trying to get a better feel for the financial aspect of the game. On the planet screen you can see a box that shows Income, Spending, and Maintaince for a particular planet. I understand that Maintainance is what you spend for the structures on that planet, but does anyone know exactly what Spending is spent on and how it's calculated? My goal is to see if I can reduce it when money is tight. Thanks!
Thanks for the quick response M. It is appreciated.
First time poster here. GalCivII is the best game I've played since MOO2...have really enjoyed it so far. My questions are about trade goods like the Xinathium Hull Plating or the Harmony Crystals. 1. Once a certain race builds them, are they still available for the other races to build? 2. Can you actually trade them with other races, and if so how? Do you trade them through the diplomatic window in exchange for items or tech from another race? Do you have to use a freighter from that p
