Ship Upgrade Process

Most of the time when I want to upgrade a ship it's just to add the newest engine or smaller weapon to tweak them a bit. I was suprised at first when I hit the upgrade button and was presented with a blank hull. I thought that it would show the ship I have then allow me to remove an older engine or weapon an replace it with the newer version. It would seem that this method would make more sense than having to "rebuild" the ship as it were. Anyone else have any thoughts on this one?

There's a box you can check in your options that will automatically remove any functional components from a ship, and just leave you with the hull and the jewellry. It's turned on by default for some strange reason. It took me a long time to figure that one out. I just wanted to look at the default ships to see how they were built in order to get some ideas for my own. I believe it's under the Interface tab, though I'm not quite sure about that.

So if I turn that option off, it will leave my ship "as is" and I can upgrade from there? That would be great, I will look for it. Thanks!

No offense, but why do they need ot fix it? Just turn it off. They have more important bugs to deal with, IMO.

But they shouldn't have turned on by default. It's not good for newbies to have it like that, they're better off being able to take a look at the entire ship and how it's put together. When they feel comfortable with ship design, then they can choose to turn it on, for convenience sake.
