Ship Repair?

I applogize up front if this has been covered already. How do ships repair themselves? Does it happen automatically or do you need to put them into orbit around a planet? How long does it take to repair them (ie: 10% per turn?). Thanks in advance for the input.

The repair is automatic, although I am not sure of the percentage per turn.
They repair faster when in orbit.
By using the Repair ability you can improve the repair times.

I believe there is also a mod in the Library that lets you build repair bays on starbases to increase the rate. I could be wrong though

If they don't exist in the libary, you can mod them in yourself.

There's one that came with the DL 1.2 patch as well. It was also included on the Gold edition release with DA. It was in an example mod that was included when Stardock first got the modding system fully functional, to give people ideas as to what was possible. There's a whole line of repair techs and ones that give more hit points to your ships, coming off of the logistics branch.

If you want instant HP restoration, just go to upgrade, and upgrade the ship to the same class it already is. For a small fee, it regains all its HP, usually in one turn. I usually do this with my Huge hulls that are about to die, retreat them back to my territory, "upgrade" them, and then back they go.

This trick no longer works as of 1.6 (DA)
