EA drops support for many games all of the time. Even if I only use 1 of my activations, if they kill the servers I can't play Mass Effect anymore. Period. Why would I waste my money on a game I'm not guaranteed to play when I want to play it? I'm not going to go buy another license just because I used up my activations on my PC, my Laptop, and then my PC again after I upgrade too much. I don't understand the need to have to call and ask permission to play the game I bought. You won't c

I haven't tried this, but, if you create your own set of ships, and create your own ship style, then select that as your custom race's style, then they should auto-update. You could just replace a few ships in a default set if you don't want to create an entire new ship style yourself, just save it as under a different name, create your custom race, and enjoy. *not guaranteed to work, as I never got a custom ship style to work properly with the drengin super ability, I forget
I hate getting things for free and I hate having a central place to check the information for said things as well. The creators of those free things should all go to hell for wanting to easily keep track of who downloads their mods, and the current released versions. Hopefully everyone is intelligent enough to understand the seriousness of that statement. I had quite a few ships hacked away from the old ST mod, but somewhere along the way of cleaning out my DL and DA mods fold
er.. no edit I can see. This is relevant to kryo's mod because I tried it with his too and got the same effect. I wanted to see if I had done something awry. Then I tested it in vanilla and once again, same problems. If I had been smart, vanilla would have been my first test. But, I never was one for doing it right the first time.
This may be unrelated, but sounds similar to a problem I've noticed. I run a personal mod, that essentially does what kryo's does, just adding a few other random parts that are left out of his list, but I get these problems in vanilla as well as modded ToA. If I have a ship that has many bits and pieces, especially if it's an old design I've tried to transfer over to ToA, then there seems to be a cut off point of how many jewelry pieces can be added without graphical anomalies. I've not
Just open the xml file for the race and change the stats to whatever you want. You could have each category at +100 if you wanted, but that doesn't make for a fun game. I usually play around with my custom enemy races to make them unique and more fearsome.
I've been too lazy / busy to convert it over as well. ;) I mainly just don't want to do all of that work for an unplayable mod again. If you need help working with this one when the time comes let me know. If I'm not too busy with other projects I'd be happy to lend a hand.
Have you had any memory problems? I noticed that multiple SW races running at the same time with all the new models (and some SW planet textures), will quickly hit the 2gb limit. I made a personal semi-TC for DA using the available packs from i-mods, and with multiple races it hit the limit very quickly. I was running with many different texture packs, races (From ST and B5 as well), but it seemed that no matter the settings or choices, it ended in a CTD.
I think the DRM management is fine. If you lose your copy or your key, e-mail EA's tech team.If you paid for the service, you get it. Releasing games before they are well-polished, on the other hand, is not okay.
Have you ever had to contact EA tech support before? You may sing a very different tune after that. Or perhaps you're the 1/1,000,000 of the people who don't have a nightmare story about them. I for one would rather buy a new key that waste my time on it again, b
By slinging insults at a particular person you make yourself look like an immature fool on a soap box. I hope this discussion can continue without direct attacks on people. Their asinine arguments, sure, but not them, themselves. 8)
the biggest reason given against music piracy, or should I say theft, is that it hurts the artists. excessive copy protection will be the death of PC gaming long before consoles take us out. 8*(
Some people don't like spyware on their systems. Many nanny programs are spyware. Go read about EA's 2142 system. It's not the end of the world, but if I buy a game (or license for a game), I want to be able to play it. What if I go away on a trip? What if I don't have internet at home, and only use it at school? I can't play these games until the crack comes out. I also download the CD cracks for EVERY game I Legally buy. Why? Because it's annoying to hunt through all my cd's, I want t
SgtSmithy, it's happened to me a few times as well. It's usually not a huge problem, but it does make me wonder if the AI's ships are similarly over-extended. ChristopherRobin, You should be able to find the default ships with the templates.
I loaded an existing tech tree, altered it a bit as a test, saved it under a new name, then selected it from the in-game menu for a custom race, and it worked fine.
ctrl shift r is for research, and ToA uses a different method for the ships plans. Do the cheat, let a turn go by, then check your templates and ships. It should show up then. I keep running into other problems while trying to update my personal mod for ToA, and some of the cheats seem more unstable than before.
it actually has 4 new movies (1 released, 3 more in the making) and a new season in the works. It plays on comedy central now. The movie is Bender's Big Score, and is 10x better if you've watched the series and understand/catch all of the ridiculous extra content that's seemingly in the background of the movie, but can still be enjoyed without it. I loved when someone made the green ship for X3:Reunion, I'd love to see it converted to this game. (and SoaSE too)
Also, if you want every colonized planet to be high quality as well, then some XML tinkering will be needed. If you create a custom race, cloning a major race, it'll create a custom race XML file for them. Open that XML file with notepad (or any other XML editor), and scroll down until you see something like "planetquality 0 /planetquality", or some such. Change that 0 to 50 or 99 or whatever makes you happiest. Do that for each race, including the race you plan on playing, and when a planet is
I agree that making new techs that add benefits is cheating, however, the AI can research said techs too, so it's less of a cheat if everyone can partake. (at least they research the new techs I've added in, but I mess with the XML)
The numbers, I don't believe you can, but you can change the ship names by editing xml's though (heavy fighter, etc). I was setting up custom races with custom names, but stopped the entire project because the additional ship models simply used to much memory (the 2gb limit can still be reached very quickly that way).
I believe they've been waiting for the memory issue to be fixed, which it has for all intents and purposes. It's still fairly easy to get to the 2gb limit with extra models (which obviously isn't SD's fault), so they may be further from or closer to their goal of a stable game. I'm not sure what's going on recently though, that's just the last I remember hearing.
The names, and types of ships aren't particularly important. The names in game will be arbitrary, and will be the same as the ships currently available (scout ship, etc). That could be modded, but you'll want overall ship names or every ship of that style will be "UNSC Chalons" for example, which isn't appropriate. It's obvious that there has to be a full fleet of ships in the Halo Universe, but what can be accurately taken from the games is still small. I haven't read the books. Too "geeky" for
LoL at Halo being less "geeky" than Star Wars, etc. It is the same, and when you (anyone who believes it is less geeky) grow up and hear others talking in 20 years about Halo (if it manages to maintain some popularity that long) it will be just another geeky thing replaced by something slightly more mainstream. I'd like to see some Halo Ships that I could add in for fun, but a Halo Mod woul
Hello, I downloaded the 1.7 beta and started a game, and it ran great. It was a small map with 1 opponent, which is something I couldn't do before because of the memory problems. However, If I play the game on a large map, with 5 opponents, with the terrain slider at 0%, and "enhance ship textures" off, I still eventually get a crash. I loaded a save, which luckily was the turn before the crash, and it crashed immediately upon loading. The ram usage was at about 2gb both times.<br/
I believe the response is to wait for 1.7 to be released. You can try turning the settings down. "Enhanced Ship Textures" and "Planet Terrain Variety", or something close to those names, should be turned down or off too. The game has an issue that quickly consumes memory, and will max out it's allowed Ram in no time. That causes the out of memory error, as well as the ctd. I'm hoping 1.7 does what has been promised, so I can play this game again. Right now, it's sadly not worth pl
If you're not talking about graphical changes, then what you said (or what I understood) can be easily done in a matter of minutes. You can alter the different bonuses, penalties, etc for invasion techniques, or create your own entirely. I have several new invasion scenarios I've created for personal play, ranging from extraordinarily expensive assaults from veteran soldiers (that do little to no damage to the planet's infrastructure), to a complete destructive invasion that does catastrophic d
