My knowledge is a bit old, but from what I remember I'll try to help. I've made my own personal mods for this game and have delved into most of the xml files to make it more enjoyable for myself. Just take my answers with a grain of salt, because it's been awhile. 1) You can change the names of existing resources, and change the bonuses given I believe, but you can't add new ones. 2) Again, you can change the names of them, but not make them specifically for e

Awhile ago, there were several playable Star Trek betas released. You're only bet to play a ST mod anymore is to find someone who still has one of those. They needed some work to clean up the files, but with a little legwork you'd be able to finish up the basic and play until your heart is content. There was guy who took (well, stole is closer to the truth) all of the popular sci-mods and mashed them together as well. His links went to rapidshare I believe. &nbs

I don't like the auto-updates. Sometimes the new patches suck, and usually they're late (sometimes very late) being released. I thought that could be turned off though? I also don't like having to look at adverts and popups for crap I don't care about if I just want to play a single player game. If I get nostalgic for reinstalling HL2 or something, half the time I don't install it because Steam is a hassle. Not a large one, but much more so than installing every other game that I own. <p

Doesn't sound like GC is the game for you. There is a definate strategy to the game, but not on the combat side. It's an X-Y-Z affair at it's heart and soul. If you can give up a nice interface, Hard AI (which can be adjusted with mods and game options), and modern graphics you can try Space Empires V. It's combat is more involved and it's a similar game.

I love that most people here haven't play both games but are still giving advice. [e digicons]|-)[/e] The storyline isn't that great. It's novel at best and is entirely predictable. CS reveals some very small aspects of the SoC plot, but nothing important. SoC sets up a mildly entertaining story, and CS explains a loose and fluid origin to that story, if you will. What is amazing about these games is the atmosphere. Stalker is one of my favorite FPS game

I've had very few problems with Stardock or Impulse. And, to their credit, all have been solved. I've only bought boxed games from Impulse (where they send you the disc) that weren't available at retail, and have never bought a game on Steam though, and the chances of me ever doing as are slim. Their DRM bothers me to no end, as well as having to have logged into my Steam account to play Single Player games.... but lets not get started or I'll go on a 9 page tangent ending with a Death

Hello, The crowd here usually can point me to a program or method to solve my computing woes. Currently, I'm looking for a way to force a game to run in a windowed mode. Specifically the game is Risk, but I have a few others that I'd like to do this with as well. I've done a bit of google searching and couldn't find anything that worked, and before anyone suggests it I've already tried adding -w and -window and such in the command line.

I'd assume that the remaining player base uses their own personal mods. GC2 is still a great game, but doesn't have the following it used to. Most have moved on to other games as stated. I've been going back and forth between a few other games, none of them GC2. I still check here every so often to see if anyone has released a cool ship pack or other neat mod that I can bash into my own mix, but I doubt anything will renew my interests enough to spark a big revival. If you can get past the clunky interface, I really loved Space Empires V. With a towering tech tree that goes from building counter measures to ward off incoming ballistics to building dyson spheres, I'd say it's a bit in depth. I'd also recommend the Balance Mod for the increased AI. The AI isn't going to blow your mind, but with the upgrade it will give you a run for your money until you get to the end game. But I've yet to play a game that challenges me in the endgame.

It pains me to see that people don't feel swindled by DLC that's released on game day. It doesn't matter if the game was delayed, and it's not about any amount of lying. It seems very low brow that you can buy a brand new game on release day and be missing out on content. The team working on the DLC was going along just fine, maybe they should have been working on the original game in the first place instead of the newest nickle and dime craze to hit the consumer market? <
