Just in case anyone stumbles upon this thread with a similar issue and looking for a solution, I did resolve it. Unfortunately, my solution may not be very helpful; I rebuilt my PC. I was having issues with other software as well, and it was just time. When I reinstalled ToA, it works fine.

Hi, I am having an issue with ships in ToA sometimes using 2 movement points when moving only one square. For example, when moving a ship that has 5/5 one square, sometimes it will have 4/5, sometimes 3/5 afterward. Even when trying to move all 5 spaces at once, many times ships will only move 4. It does not seem to have anything to do with game mechanics such as Yor SA or military base ZOC. I had originally installed a beta version months ago, and then updated

Well, uninstalled everything, even DL and DA, and deleted install directories and saved game directories. Redownloaded everything from scratch, but I still see this issue on the new game I launched. I am familiar with the game mechanics regarding the Yor super ability and military bases, and this isn't it. Nobody else is seeing this happen? Obviously not, because it is quite annoying and would have been mentioned. Perhaps I'll have to submit a bug report.

Thanks for the idea, Loupdinour. That's excactly what I did: upgrade from a beta version. I'll give that a try, as nothing else seems to make sense.

Hi all, I decided to get back to this game after a several month break, and loaded up the new ToA that I had purchased but never actually played. Arter a couple hours into my game, I noticed that many times my ships wouldn't move as many spaces as they had movement points for. This made timing planet attacks rather difficult. I tried this out manually moving both fleets and individual ships. Frequently, when a ship has 5/5 movement points, clicking to move 1 sp,

I think custom races as opponents CAN do very well, as long as they are not severely handicapped. I've seen custom races put up a tougher fight than some stock races. But it is a pretty gray area. A couple of the things Wyndstar mentioned would lower the difficulty level by adjusting anyway. I personally think that as long as you don't remove starting techs and you let the AI pick it's own abilities, custom opponents are as difficult as any, especially at high difficulty levels. Now

Yeah, I thought about this very thing a while ago, but thought it a dog best left lying. I still feel that way. I don't think there is any reason to delve into it, reloading has been used in all games since the beginning of gaming. Policing it would be rediculous. And how then would a reload of an old save after a CTD be ruled? Meh.

OK, I'll put in my thoughts. Previous to this round, I was unaware of external race customizations. My initial shocked response was typed in caps, YOU CAN DO THAT? Even up until now, I didn't learn it all. YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR INITIAL ALLIGNMENT? Didn't know that. Personally, I didn't think it was that big of deal, though. As I commented before, ARC can be a bigger advantage at the higher levels than weak opponents, because even weak opponents still have huge bonuses. In my game t

I can't say that I have ever seen 2 ships completely destroy each other, sounds like a bug. Though mutual distruction is something that some players would like to see in the combat system, I don't think it is intended to happen. While defense is king early to mid game, what Iztok says is true. Once the AI can put enough attack on a ship to blast through all your defense, the strategy switches from all-defense to all-attack. And it is here where the lack of mutual distruction seems a bit bogg

I guess I am the oddball out this time. I usually play without tech trading. I can't figure it out, it seems to be one area of the game just beyond me. I have tons of trouble getting decent trades with the AI, and feel that they use it amongst themselves for overwhelming advantage. No tech trading is fine with me. I won't be posting a 1 year win to be certain, but meh, I don't miss it.

I won't go into the numbers, there are plenty of posts explaining the way attacks work. There is still a random factor, and whether your opponent has +luck or not. But what I will say, is that I have found reloading over and over and doing the exact same attack sequence will result in the exact same results. Try it once. Once you moved 2 spaces, you changed the sequence, and new numbers were generated for the battle. Normally, accept for Arcean, there is no difference between attacking or b

Wow, that only took about an hour and a half to catch up on the subject. Guess I should check out this thread more often. Mumble, sometimes less is more ;p I like what you have come up with, seems to sum things up nicely while not really admitting that there isn't any other way of doing it. BTW, I think custom opponents don't really make that much of a difference at the highest difficulties. I've played against custom races(albeit, I did not pick out their abilities), and t

One of the best things about being a teenager is eventually you'll grow out of it! I find it amazing to think back about the things that I thought were life and death situations as a teenager, and now can laugh about. Don't take life too seriously. And to add another "When I was your age..": If I wanted to play a computer game, I had to write my own, in BASIC! They...weren't very exciting.

I discovered the same thing this weekend, Purge. Only I didn't know if it was something well known, and just missed by me until now. Thing is, I don't think it is just the Capital bonus that you get. In my game, I had a precursor library, with a research accadamy, and tech capital. Or something like that. At 100% research my econmy eventually tanked. But even below -500bc, I could set planet focus to social, and get about 55 production. This was enough to build econ buildings and try to p

And to answer your question earlier Mumble, I won my 0 year suicidal games completely differently. Of course, Wyndstar is much better than me (most of us, actually) when it comes to unconventional playstyle. I loved his comeback win thread. I played much the same way I normally would, only tried to do everything faster. I built a custom race with +1 speed bonus and Super Hive. My thoughts were the same as yours, every planet I colonize is one I don't have to invade later. In one game, due
but I would like to discuss this a bit more because I feel that this surrender function is what allowed all these 0 year DA wins that are essentially impossible to achieve in DL.
I have seen comments like this from you before Mumble, and I wonder if they are misinformed. You assume that the AI is more likely to surrender in DA, and I just don't see it. Granted, I haven't played many DL games lately. I can tell you that I posted 4 0-year wins this last round, all slight
If you don't get it then perhaps you're not quite as smart as you think.
Oh, I hardly think that's fair! :) I'm pretty sure I'm exactly as smart as I think I am. But it's a pretty vague statement. Yeah, I do find that the SB array does add the bonuses to ships in orbit. I'm not surprised that the SCC may not calculate the score the way you might think, though. Some good info here, but I doubt I'd ever attempt it to the scale that some of you do. I'll

Do you ever try to contruct it so your SCC planet falls into at least part of the array? Or is that usually too insignificant an increase to make it worth it? It seems to me that you could get at least 16 - 20 overlapping SBs if the planet is in a good spot, and any planet can have the SCC and ODS, so even a poor planet would do.

I'm pretty sure the AI surrenders under the same circumstances in DA as it did in DL. It was probably added as a feature to disable it for those players that didn't like the AI surrendering to another AI. Basically, to not allow surrenders is a bloodlust option.
