From playing challenging and tough prior to the MVL and now to be winning on Crippling is awesome!!!
That's a great step up. The league certainly challenges a person to push the max. I managed to truly win my first suicidal game using these settings, though not until year 1. Year 0 games are hard, your economy will crash; just play it like there is no tomorrow! Once you get the ship's built that you need, turn other stuff off! No need to improve your planets

Wow, the competition is getting stiff round here! I just finished one of my best games ever, and it already feels inadequite. *hides under towel*
First one to planetary invasion wins! Set...Go!
Affirmative. I exploited it heavily that game just to see how it would turn out. Won it pretty easily. Makes for a nice score, but I can't submit it for a league game :)
Here's my submission for this round. Char: MulletMan Years: 2 Race: Yor Type: Cultural Conquest Points: 8225 Difficulty: Masochistic Submission Date: 1/7/2008
Wow, Mumble, that sounds like a really boring game, lol! Do you think you'll ever try one of the expansions? Considering the cost and size of engines in DA, coupled with extreme planets, one would be hard pressed to follow the same strat as you did in DL. But still, supreme dominance in the first year? Very nice!
1.80e is currently the latest version on Stardock. I had to hunt mightily to find that they have a patch for it. I was loathe to post any information on the exploit here simply because it can be too tempting for many people. Those who discovered it by accident like I did know it, and hopefully that's all the further it goes.
Getting a race from friendly to close can be tough! I had 2 double pluses and 4 single ones, and still not to close. Seems to me that it is easier when Good or Neutral. Anyway, my submission for Round 4. Team C Character: [link="http://metaverse.galciv2.com/index.aspx?g=player&id=15596"]MulletMan[/link] Race: Custom Score: 10710 Victory: Political Difficulty: Crippling
Btw, anyone seen Vilgan or Elwood? EDIT: I think we could afford to get a concession if only one of those players were a no-show but if both... we'd be a player down and suffer the -2 penalty. Thats the long version for insta-lose. The same thing happened to Team D in Round 2. They came last...
I'm around FB, just tend to be the quiet type. Also have been spending a lot of time on another game. But have a GC game going this round and will be submitte
Round 4? Weeee! Things happen quick when you are not watching too closely. MulletMan's ready to crank out another great game. Team (insert my team here) is going to take all this round! (Insert other team names here) are going down!
Here is my submission, game from MulletMan on 9/23/2007. Not much, but didn't take much time to play this month
Apology accepted. Motti, I pm'd you and posted a setup on the core in the private forums. Hope that works!
I too have been wondering about our team leader. I haven't started a game yet, but will likely get some play time this weekend. Motti I think you are our team's best choice for a military game, but I think we should discuss the games in our Core private forum. If we have to, we can just pick by random, and tell ShadowWorrior that's what his decision is.
Well, I didn't put in a lot of play time this round, so my game isn't all that great. But it sure was a challenge! First time I ever needed to trade away a planet in order to negotiate a much needed peace. Very slow tech rate doesn't work well for the way I play, apparently. There was actually an 18-quality planet left uncolonized after my 7 year game becasue I didn't bother getting the colonization tech: that doesn't happen in my regular games. I like getting a different ty
Here is Mulletman's submission from 7/18/2007. 13485 points. I guess it's all the better I can do.
Hmm, I had originally posted a game won in 4 years, but reposted for a 5 year win for a couple k more points. Maybe I did that backwards. I thought I would get more chances to play a few more scenario's, but really didn't. I still think a 2 year victory should be possible, under the right conditions. Maybe I'll make an attempt at one this weekend.
Ha, I thought I looked at that carefully. Ignore the man behind the curtain..
One rule I would like to see change/clarify, regarding bonus points. I think bonus points should only apply to games that follow the correct victory condition. For example, in the current round, one could forgo the tech victory, and submit a military victory. They would only get 1 point for victory of incorrect type, but due to differences in scoring it would give them a much higher score and possibly 3 bonus points. By saying bonus points only apply to games wone the correct way, it will el
Count me in as well, if I can still get in on this round. I have been following these posts with interest, but wasn't sure if I'd have the time for something like this. But I think with the smaller games I shouldn't have any trouble. It sounds like a fun way to get some interest back into the game. I created a new character to sign up for this, MulletMan.
I have to agree with spearthrower on movies, there just aren't very many good ones. My wife rents movies all the time; I can sit through about 1 in 5. Whereas I don't think I ever quit reading a book partway through. I can understand others not being able to visualize book characters, but for me movies actually ruin it sometimes. I saw the movie "Rising Sun" before I read the book. While reading it, all I could picture was Sean Connery. I like to be able to imagine the characters,
Wow, this started about one thing, but seems to boil down to the old sliders argument that has been kicked around since release. I don't think this strategy is an exploit. I think it is just the number crunchers doing their thing, trying to come up with the most efficient way of doing something. Big deal. If everyone cared only for efficiency, we'd all be driving the Prius. Anybody harping the strategy tried it themselves? It really only works on very specific settings. Set everything to
Yeah, I'm playing the latest patch and both the Drengin and the Yor started researching the cure right away(crippling). They just didn't have the research power I had, so they took about 5-6 turns, where I took just 1. With the soldiering ability lowered to 0, this makes for a great time to attack the Yor!(Funny how artificial life forms can be affected by the same disease as others, but meh.)
I believe this is an intended effect from getting the plague mega event. Researching the cure brings you back to normal. I also noticed that my specially designed ships were no longer available, and that your sodiering goes down to 0 as well. Very important to research the cure. If you don't like the mega events, you can turn them off when you create your game.
I don't think the OP is arguing about how hard the spy system is to master, quite the opposite. The problem is more about balance. A top player with a strong economy can afford the 5k bc per turn to create a spy a turn. In fact it's welcome when trying to get below the 20k bc mark every week. It's just too easy to plant 15 spies on your opponent just before you declare war to cripple their economy. They can't build more ships, and it's an easy win. Shouldn't be that simple. <br
It's not because they have fleets upon fleets of completely useless laser-equipped fighters that do nothing but give my battleships free experience is it? It is becasuse of that. I beleive military rating is calculated in a way that adds total attack power along with total HP. Therefore, 50 6 Atk 15 HP ships > 2 300 Atk 120 HP ships. At least something along those lines. Build Spin Control center and build useless, all attack large/huge ships
