I got that my first game. Also, I'd point out that you can reduce the likelihood of such with the Luck trait. Edit: That said, I don't actually like the luck trait. I mean, good lord, how many renamed "Sniper" core ships do I bloody need? I had one game where I was getting them faster than I could give them away to my allies! Yeargh.

Well, the tactical battles could go into Planetary Invasions and fleet battles could stay the same. I don't think we should have tactical battles AT ALL, but I'm just saying... (It could be an expansion called "Galactic Civilizations: Tactics" and it could have ninjas. And they could be totally broken. But no chocobos.)
Okay, actually, here's an excellent site for thinking up names. Several of the generators have fields that let you pick a theme for the results, my favorite being somewhere in the "Evil" section (they don't actually all sound evil, it's just the generator's name and official category). Link Edit: It's the "Evil Name Generator" in the "Darkness/Evil" section.
Hmmm, good question. For some reason, GalCiv2 installs itself in multiple locations. I'm not sure how to change the part that wants to go in "My Documents."
Alright, fair enough. I'm just a little miffed about the "Father knows best" design issues. I don't see why it should be so bad that I could use a certain ship until I'm done with it, and it starts to take quite a while to select a ship multiple times in a crowded Gigantic galaxy. And, for the record, I tried to edit the above post into a more civil tone, but the board won't let me. Is that because I posted this first? Either way, sorry... I should really be busy thanking them f
What tactical battles SHOULDNT be. In the game.
You do have to design the ships that you're upgrading into, and they do have to be of the same hull size--so to upgrade your survey ship, you'll need to design something with a medium hull. Then, when you go to the upgrade screen, you'll be able to select it from a list. As for ships being ugly: If you can't design them well, just don't bother with extras. Pick a hull of the size you want and just stick on the functional components in some way that looks symmetrical. If your ships
Customonians of the planet Customon, led by the mighty Genericus Rex!
I'm SOOOOOOO glad they changed that. I mean, seriously, I'd pay for this patch in BLOOD if they asked me to. That said, I haven't been able to download it properly yet. So let me get this straight: The morons made it select the next ship when you run out of moves, even if it's not moving the camera? Now, granted, that'll be the difference between night and day as far as I'm concerned, but it's still a freaking stupid "feature." I don't want the game to tell me which ship I
Bump. Hey, what determines who surrenders to whom, and when? I just had a game where my allies, the good Iconians, surrendered to the evil Drengin. The Drengin weren't on good terms with the Iconians, but they also weren't at war. The Iconians and I were at war with the Yor/Korx alliance (which had nothing to do with the Drengin), and we were about to win (in fact, I finished off our foes the next week). The Iconians weren't threatened or anything, I had cleared their area with my
I've stolen techs after hitting Advanced without any money going into espionage, so yes it's possible. Defending planets: Well, the Planetary Defense improvement helps a little, and I think you can stack them. I would actually recommend Soldiering, though, if you can afford to take the time to reasearch those two lines (which aren't actually all that expensive). With high soldiering (playing Custom race helps, as does a Tir-Quan center), good technology, and a high planetary popula
Y'know, I have that same darn forum bug, as do quite a few others, but nobody seems to care. Marcathonus: It would appear that Meklar did the same thing as me--he took an older thread that he made, one with no replies, and replied to it himself to draw attention to the "no new posts for YOU!" bug that a few of us are having. Look at the dates. I mean, it's not like we can start an "I can't start threads!" thread, is it? <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smil
The Epic map is 18x18, while Gigantic is 16x16--so yes, Epic is larger. My computer has trouble with Gigantic when there's too many races and habitable planets. I've tried to make custom maps, but I can't seem to do it in Notepad and I don't know what else I could use. I can design them okay, but they always crash the program when i try to load them. And, since I can't start threads due to the new forum bug, I can't really ask about it in the depth I want. <img src="htt
And even if the wrong buildings are present when you get it, there is nothing stopping you from replacing them with the correct buildings. Erm, yeah, there is. Have you ever tried? Not even orbital bombardment can take care of a capitol.
The auto-focus doesn't pull you away until you hit tab. So... don't. Bull. It moves when you end the turn, run out of moves on a ship, or garrison a planet. If you're trying to pull several different ships off of autopilot, or if you want to perform multiple actions with the same planet, or if you want to watch what an enemy ship does at the
You can expand the graphical representation of the tech chart. There's a button to make it go fullscreen. Also, check that you don't have any filters on--there are options to filter what displays, and that can get confusing. (Honestly, though, I've never had any problems with it at all...)
I want, in ascending (least to most) order: 1) The "Next" button to choose the next planet alphabetically, or for you to be able to select the criteria used in picking a planet "Next." I name my planets with prefixes based on their use, which helps immensely. "E (planetname)" worlds are economic, R is research, M is manufacturing, C is all three (combo), and I usually have a couple that are MR, RE, or ME. It's great for the lists you can alphabetize, but I wish it'd work for "Next.
I got an AI planet last night with nothing BUT capitals... tech, economic, manufacturing, politcal, and a couple of lame super projects, plus a trade good. It had a few useable tiles, but DANG.
I think the UP should be a bit bigger in the game, such that there's occaisonally some reason you'd want to leave it (other than the "Should we make starbases utterly worthless?" and "Should constructors be incapable of moving at a reasonable rate?" resolution). Also, if that happened, there should be more complicated mechanics for when you're out of it--negative diplmoacy modifiers would be a good start, but being to negotiate your way back in would be even better. Also, "black market" tradin
That'll be new then, I think. Up until now, I've been using the tech victory line as trading stock--expensive, with no benefit to them!
All my Rally Point targets get lost when loading a game and the Auto-Focus thing that's going away in 1.2 tends to select new groups when I'm trying to set the destination for an old group (thus wasting the movement for the turn on the new group, and sending them off course), but those are the only problems I'm having with autopilot.
I think my ships are already going plaid, I'm hitting speeds in the low 40s and i still have room for guns and armor. I've made troop transports that go into the 70's--they can get to their target in only a few turns. Still, much as I like Huge, it is rather annoying having 2.5 minutes between turns, five seconds to even select a ship or planet, and 3 seconds for every two tiles that any given group of ships move. Maybe I need more than 3.2 Ghz. <img src="http://images.stardock.co
There are middle grounds, check your manual. Also, you can mix it up: some races can be made dumber than others, and you can set alliances at the start of the battle, so you could have (for example) you and 2 morons allied against 4 intelligents that don't know any of you.
Well, as stated, the most important thing is not going to war. There's a ten-week waiting period once you have your 75%, and the AI seems to like to pillage your bases during that time. I don't suggest putting points into your influence traits at the start of the game. You won't usually be able to get an influence victory without turning a lot of planets, so you actually need things like diplomacy and economy more than you need influnce bonuses. In fact, diplomacy is your single mo
You're using default ships? Good lord, why? I strongly suggest setting all your tabs to "User." Don't even LOOK at the Core ships, they're embarassing.
