That's just horribly freaking awesome. I think I'll have to play with it. I hope they leave that in, if it's true. It's just nifty, and being as this is only a single-player game...

I got that consistently, actually. I suggest trying to install while in Safe Mode, that's what fixed it for me. (Tamer suggestions like "turn off your antivirus during install" didn't work).

If you turn off the option that makes the camera focus on attacks, does that stop it? (Or does it just keep you in the dark too much?)

Squares are parsecs. The big squares, the ones that stay when you hit Ctrl-G, are sectors.

I've never seen them recover from a military defeat, though I once had the entire galaxy turn around and sack all my starbases half way through the waiting period at the end of an influence victory.

[rant] What the hell are you going on about? I'm playing on Intelligent, which supposedly recognizes all tactics, and so far the worst I've gotten from putting Chinese restaurants in every town in America is a "-Our alarming influence" and "-Our close borders." Further, there's a LOT of historical precedent for people who don't like being culturally dominated. I mean, look at ASIA. Not only Asia, either. People here in Texas gripe ALL THE TIME about the influence of the Spanish

You're supposed to be able to figure it out through espionage according to the manual. Now, I'm playing Drath (who get plenty bonus espionage) and I'm paying for espionage on everyone in the galaxy, and I've NEVER seen the upcoming issue, but hey, maybe it's there and you just need to find it. I admit to not having looked very hard.

I suppose my game might be bugged... or yours all might be. Also, is it possible that other Civs paid the minors to fight in mine? That range issue is something else, though. I haven't played around in the game files, but is there any association in there that would confuse two races like that? Thought: I'm going to gift the Minors with the various life support techs and see if they become more active in my games. Also, I'll see if I can't pay them attack anyone, althou

So... they don't invade by default? Okay, I have version 1.11 and I haven't changed anything. I've played games where the minor races went to war with each other without my intervention in any way, and I've even played one where the Scottlingas (who I hadn't even seen yet) invaded and took over every other minor race. So... um... ??? Edit: Though I think your idea is rea

Actually custom race is the worst possible race to play as. ALL the other civs, if you clear their bonuses, get inherant rascial bonuses along with 10 points. So the custom race is actually the WORST race. Um, no. The Customs get 25 soldiering and 20 loyalty. Research the various +Soldiering techs and you very rarely, if ever, have to defend

However have you EVER seen the Terrans ... do anything at all? Yes. For me, on AI that's "Intelligent" or "Bright," I get: Powerful: Arceans (by a lot), Torians High Average:Iconians, Yor, Altarians, in that order Low Average:Drengin, Korx, Drath, Terrans (in that order) WTF, mate?: Scottlingas,* Thalans, in that

It depends HOW you use rally points. I just click on the Rally Point itself and hit "Move" when I want ships headed there to change course. It breaks those already in flight, but it's not that bad... ...though, on second thought, I might have to start using the governor, my method gets annoying at times.

Well, I've played a couple games as Drath. A few things come to mind: 1) Yes, the AI sucks with Drath (and Thalan, for that matter), but I'm not the AI. 2) On the Yor: Don't Thalans get Miniaturization also? 3) I play long games with high research, so I get nothing out of Miniaturization, what with the cap. 4) The Drath have great bonuses *besides* Defense, too. Yay for diplomatic advantage. 5) Wait, different races get different starting planets?!? What are they?

I tried to make a character to play Metaverse, but it gave me the "ProcessingData" page for ten minutes before I hit the X. I tried again, this time without a race logo (I do have the other two fields filled out), and it's giving me "_ProcessingData" for 20 minutes and counting. Do I have to do anything special here? Edit: My Javascript error console says something about security violation errors. I'm using Opera 8.54, if it matters. Edit 2: Okay, disabling my anti-virus and bot

I've been playing as the Custom Race, and I just started dabbling in the others. The Drath Legion seems rather overpowered, is this my imagination? Do the other races balance out somehow? Edit: Though, don't get me wrong, I realize that race balance isn't all that big a deal in a single player only game. :p

I'm sure most are familiar with the "feature" where everything but ship movement is put on hold for the first week after loading a game. I've noticed something else that happens at that time, and it's happening to me consistently enough (different installs and computers and options and such) that I'm doubting it's a personal problem. After loading a savegame, relatively new ships that are heading for rally points lose their target and stop dead. Other autopilot destinations are main

Hey, thanks. I knew it had to be there. I can't think of any good excuse for my having missed that so many times, so yay for internet anonymity!

One more thing to mention, as the bonus applys to the trade income the freighter produces while in the starbases sphere of influence, it make sense to build them as far away of the trade routes starting planet as possible. Assuming, of course, that you can keep them from getting blown up at long distances.

The size scaling for extras and components on the larger ships looks ridiculous. We should get a "size" adjustment control, much as we get one for rotation. Ignore this if there already is one and I'm just too dense to hit the control in the right place to make it work. I have looked, but it seems like such an obvious feature, I can't get over the feeling that I might have been missing it every day for the last week. (Erm, if that's the case, feel free to tell me... <img src="smi

It would appear that my allies can't tell when a blockade to protect them is different from a siege of their culture. (Fortunately, I figured this out before gifting them too many planets in my latest game...) I can see how one could exploit it if allies were too trusting, but as it is it's virtually impossible to be genuinely cooperative with your allies without angering them. So, I propose what should be a relatively simple change: There should be two (or three) more degrees of tr

Hmmm, guess I just never paid any attention at those early stages of research. It's kinda hard to, since my race (Neutral Custom Technologists with extra research bonus) usually gets upwards of 5 techs at a time by the time I'm researching weapons.

13 Replies 11,337 Views

My (neutral) race just got a "nano ripper" in a trade. It's a craptastic Mass Driver. Where does it come from? Is it one of the Evil weapons? Do all the Evil weapons suck as much as that does?!? For the record, it costs 150 bc and does 5 damage; the black hole gun, which I had at the time I got the ripper, costs 140 and does 16 damage. It also doesn't weigh much more.

I was in the "this isn't really important" camp on this until yesterday. Then I lost power during a storm... ...with my last save having been in the middle of a war, one week before my factories would have completed a wave of fighters to repel transports... Foot, meet mouth.

Y'know, even if you removed cheats, people would just edit their game files to get exactly the same results. Also, I didn't even know that there were cheats until reading this, and I can honestly say that they haven't been ruining the game for me now that I do know... ...except for you crazy jerks who are dupin' rarez!
