Exactly...costs should stay reasonable for those playing a passive espionage game. It's only when you're trying to use the spys in an agressive manner do their cost start hurting.
Or if you use them to defend from agressive neigbours by nuliffying anything that comes to you, even when not cost effective to do so (due to inflating prices). Like using 3000BC worth spy (due to inflaction), to nullify enemy spy on stock exhance

Personally, I think it's oversight that these techs are tradable by some, but not all races. Drengin and Korath Specialized Reseach tech also is tradable by one, but not other race. They should all probably be untradable. At least Krynn Industrial Revolution if nothing else.

Mega events would be great if they were a little less mega. Acutally, it would be good idea to have galaxy map setting for how "mega" mega events are (instead of just on/off switch).

Well, in order to keep right 10 (no CD/DVD in drive), right 8 doesn't fully apply to Stardock products. The whole point in exculsive distribution of patches from Impulse is to see if that whoever downloads patches is valid customer and not "potential criminal". I guess some sort of "decency check" is always required for commercial products. But just like cd-check by Securom, for example, can give headache to regular users, same could happen with Impulse.

Don't you, by chance, have more then 20,000bc in reserve? If you do, that gives you "undocumented" economy penalty for having too much money.

Super Dominator Corvettes are great for "suicide rushing" enemy ships without defense. That's the best way to spend those ships and bring back your economy, while destroying enemy fleets in the process. If, for some reason, all enemy ships have defenses, then scrapping them would be best way to get some money back. In the meantime, if you need transports or something, just decrease science and social spending, so that whatever that gets spent goes to military (focus buttons he

Blocking economy buildings makes sense in early game or on smaller maps, where there is actually possibility of reducing enemy economy good enough so their spy spending gets low. But if AI blocks my economy builing in late game, I just leave him there. It's his wasted money.
If they block recruiting center or stock exhance, for example, just ignore them, since cost of spy grossly outweights any possible benefits of freeing the tile. Odd you mention a stock exchange as they are my second target when I use spies offensively. A race's ability to create spies is based off of their economy. The spy slider denotes a % of your income devoted to training spies. Each spy has a cost associated to it.&nbs

Another good thing to know is that you don't need to cancel every spy that comes at you. If they block recruiting center or stock exhance, for example, just ignore them, since cost of spy grossly outweights any possible benefits of freeing the tile. Eventually, spy cost will rise so much that other AI won't be able to muster many of them quickly to do futher damage.

Well, it's +2logistic vs 4 points trade. Another reason to play Torians is to not have Torians as enemies. Otherwise AI Torian could snatch Aquatic Transport Station glactic achivement for himself (if playing ToA). Then, there is matter of starting homeworld. Torians have small edge here. Torians start with 9 PQ word with rings and have 6 PQ planet nearby. Custom race starts with 10 PQ word with moon and 4 PQ planet. Personally, I think Torians ar

Actually, I think having multiplayer component can only enchance single player AI. That way, when early testers start to play with each other they can more easliy think of the good strategies that can be lated coded into AI. Also, having AI open to moding would be even better. It worked greatly for Civ4.

The biggest problem with current espionage system is that it is "who has biggest economy" contest. Especially, because spy costs increase over time forever. In my late game, I don't even bother canceling enemy spies on my stock markets. Why would I waste 3000+ bc worth spy for canceling 30bc/turn profit. Waste of good money. In late game, only real cost effective use of spies is in planetary invasions, where your super expensive spy is on planet for less then a turn, a

Question: Are higher tier Technology and Industrial Matrixes worth using for Thalans considering their increased production cost and gain being only in lesser maintenance then 1st tier? 2nd trier is mostly useful in my opinion, in case you already researched economy branch, and need a bit more cash (or something to be built on already fully built world). 5bc less maintenance for extra 100cost surely can't compare to stock exchange, but can give extra cash if all tiles are already taken

I found some bugs in current version of Galactopedia. Regarding Atlas modules, AtlasDefenseStrength is parsed as Defense bonus in Culture, which is untrue, it is actually defense bonus to that ship only. On the other hand, AtlasDefenseInZOCStrength isn't parsed at all, so modules like Stellar Defenser appear to not do anything (in galactopedia). Another issue I found is that by Galactopedia, Thalan tech Space Superiority is supposed to give Stellar Defender atlas

Really? I didn't knew that those mirrors are unautorized. They are pretty much all respectable gaming sites. P.S. You still need to autorize game even with those old stadalone patches, as far as I remember. It won't let you run the game otherwise. P.P.S. I'm pretty much sure that old dowload hosted here was exact same. Download directly, install, and ask for autorization on game start to play.

I prefer tech trading on, since I'm firm beliver that removing game play features (like most of diplomacy in this case) is not way to play the games.
