This is in response to those who think my (and Gamespy's) 10/10 review is absurd. Why don't you post YOUR idea of a 10/10 expansion so that I can rip it to shreds? You may subjectively state that DA sucks, and that's your opinion, but realize that your views are aberrant. To say that this content should have been included with the original game is absurd, especially considering the universally high reviews and awards that GCII received. I would think that someone in the videoga

Is it ironic when someone corrects someone else on the use of the word irony when that someone else is actually using irony correctly, and the corrector is himself incorrect? I wish someone would post a definition, what a pickle.

That's strange, Bingjack , I had that exact problem you're describing with DL, and DA fixed it for me (so far). I've got 2.5 RAM and a 4K page file, and can now run gigantic maps with 9 races. Have you increased the size of your page file?

I know damn well that the French absolutely hate trying to deal with Americans when we are on their soil and cannot communicate with them, almost like they assume that we should know French if we wish to go there, ahem, hint, hint. I don't speak Spanish so I don't participate on Spanish speaking forums, it is that simple. I get tired of hearing how non native English speakers feel 'flamed' for improper use. Quit making excuses and learn t

thanks for your help guys . Oh, and just ignore Wheeloffire. My first and primary language is Spanish in any case. Aye Carumba! Wheeloffire con Pie boca enfermedad! Aieeeee!

I find the presumption that English is the primary language of all participants involved in an internet forum entertaining. Especially when that assumption is made solely to point out the presumed lack of intelligence in someone else. That's irony.

While I agree that DA is a good expansion pack, the original poster might well point to the fact that this is as much to do with the rather wretched quality of most expansion packs as the qualities which the expansion undoubtedly has. As such, while 7.8 (why not 78?) might be a touch on the low side I don't think it can be rejected just because other expansion packs suck more. Why not? An expansion should be compare

Drath, Thalan, Yor, Torian and Iconians start out with this tech These are the races that have purchased the manufacturing capital in my game on the first turn, sometimes all four.

One of these days you may have a wife/girlfriend, and this won't be funny anymore. OUCH. Realism in a game sucks. I need to get away from realism... far, far away. I wonder why this desire for realism was put aside in regards to MOO, Civ, and TW? MOOs research wasn't any more realistic if I remember right, and the planet battles

All right, I've played for a couple of hours using these tips and SWEET. I'm ranked first (out of 9, gigantic map) and am just finishing up the colony rush with about a dozen planets, and that's only because I hit other civilization home worlds. Making your home world into a Wal-Mart really makes a difference. I was just set in my ways with using it as an industrial center, then trying to make trade ships to get my economy up and running. This worked great for normal and became

I tried to watch SG a few times and really did not like the show. Not that my opinion would be considered a valid one, two of my favorite SF series were both cancelled promptly (Farscape and Firefly). I didn't even know SG had ships, no sign of them in the couple of episodes I have seen. Great looking ships, good job. Man I suck at making ships. How long does one of those take?

So is Vista as craptacular as every other Windows release? We still don't have our macros (for my job) working on XP, can't wait for the next OS. Should be a real joy.

It is a cool idea. That's the problem with a great game like this one... you just want more, more, and more! This ship insubordination could be an event, like the event when your planets revolt. Sorry, can't resist... Okay, now we need rebel ships, terror stars, carriers, orbital bombardment, multiplayer, hotseat, and tactical combat, all in the next patch. That should be easy to program in an hour or maybe two!

Yeah, it is pretty funny. Useless smack talk in the Golden Rules thread.

I wasn't able to actually finish a game until 1.4, and just started Metaverse this week. I'll try to finish a game or two and then see about joining an empire.

46 Replies 19,533 Views

Yeah, even I figured out that I had to back off of my evil empire gig when I upgraded to challenging, at least until I know what I'm doing. Not that I've made it to the learning center tech anyway. I've won on normal many times, but I guess I've picked up some bad habits that I have to quit. The AI on this game is much better than I'm used to from playing Civilization 4, etc. I'll try some tech trading and see what happens, I'll hold out until I get trade as chief suggested.

46 Replies 19,533 Views

Well hot damn, if that works on the difficulty you play on I should maybe give it a shot. I can't believe I never thought of filling up my initial colony ship. Let's just pretend this conversation never happened. I'm focusing on the economy already, I just need to not be a conservative miser with my initial resources. It irks me to get rid of my trade tech like that, but I better get with the program, or at least turn tech trading off. So, instead of making

Does the AI trade techs between opponent races? I'm wondering, maybe that's how they outpace my research. I trade techs, but I am typically stingy and don't do very much of that. It's hard to give a good tech up.

I really dig the tug boat idea to move starbases around, i think that's a great solution. It's got the added bonus of not being yet another starbase module to send a constructor out for.

63 Replies 18,576 Views

I still suck. I just moved up to challenging this week from normal, and no game has lasted past medium hulls. I don't know if it's my crap strategy from playing normal or what, but I need to step it up a notch. Unfortunately, of the 3 games I've played, I've never had more than 6 planets after the colony rush (gigantic map). Here's what I do- I set my taxes to 30%. My custom race usually has about an 80% morale with this to start. I set my military and social to 30 an

Don't forget multiplayer, octaviusviii. We need carriers, tactical combat, multiplayer, hotseat, and global warming. That should cover it. Maybe if they included Star Wars, Babylon 5, Star Trek, Mechwarrior, and Space:1999 mods, that would be sweet. Any chance that could get in the next patch, developers? Maybe next week? Shouldn't take too long.

I would like to see an option to turn off the "rocking" ships. You know how all of the hundreds of tiny ships that gently sway from side to side all over your galaxy map? Why? Think of all the processing involved for this... strange, considering how in space no such rocking movement would occur. This ain't the ocean. I agree about the fleet battles, I would enjoy additional control myself. As to the "little lights," I've got that now, are your graphics option

In the past, I have thought "what a great idea" and posted spontaneously on a game forum before reading the 20 pages of frickin' stickies. If that's wrong, I don't want to be right. A free and open exchange of ideas is, in my opinion, never a bad thing. Well said Teancum, I agree. Personally, I'm of the belief that if someone reads a carrier thread, and they are sick to death of carrier threads, they have no one to blame but themselves.
