Golden Rule

We all were new to this game at one point. We all asked a question or had an idea that someone else had come up with before us. Someone probably looked at our idea and thought "Sheesh! Not this idea/topic again!"

My point is, that since this game is still selling in stores and online, there are constantly going to be new members on the forums. Now yes, they should try to research their idea before throwing it out, but we should try to be a little nicer to the new guys. Nicely pointing a person to a sticky, or filling a player in on the fact that a topic has been fully discussed in the past is somthing that Im sure would go along way to improving a new forum members experince!

One of the things I have constantly been impressed with is the caliber of people on these forums. I would hate it for new players to be discouraged from joining in discussions because they are afraid of getting snapped at.

I agree and I'm partly guilty of this at times.

I agree with the sentiment, but Rodney King is *not* a great philosopher.

Personally, I'm of the belief that if they dont read the damn stickies which are there for a reason, it's their own fault. From there on in, anything they say is worthless as far as I'm concerned.

Wow, Marcathonas, you speak as if you are perfect...may we all aspire to be as good as you are one day....

At least you mentioned personally, hopefully all the newbies quickly learn you do not except errors or mistakes of any sort.

In the past, I have thought "what a great idea" and posted spontaneously on a game forum before reading the 20 pages of frickin' stickies.

If that's wrong, I don't want to be right.

A free and open exchange of ideas is, in my opinion, never a bad thing. Well said Teancum, I agree.

Personally, I'm of the belief that if someone reads a carrier thread, and they are sick to death of carrier threads, they have no one to blame but themselves.

Since I'm not allowed to edit:

Lets also not forget that a "newbie" is just that, new...and may not be familiar with all the correct terminology, and their search may of turned up nothing....

Another fact to consider is that not everyone reads every post, and a certain header/topic may spark someones interest who has a great/good/valued/crappy point that hasn't been brought up in the previous, possibly dead post, and a "newbie" may end up bringing a new light to a subject. While this doesn't happen often, given enough time, everything happens.

Marcathonas I hear the Empire of Standards calling your name. Be a good lad and run along now.

Gosh Teancum, the issue of being nice to new members has been discused dozens of times! Haven't you heard of the "search" function? I can't beleive you would waste our time with this!

When I see you at Christmas I am so going to ignore you.

LMAO Feud - you are completely right, its even stickied

Maybe they should add being nice to new people in the common topic thread.

Agreed, do be nice to new players (It seems even some regulars haven't noticed the 'don't attack the newbies' sticky that Cari posted).

In my experience, that usually means that it is becoming enough of an issue again that a regular felt the need to warn everybody about it. This is one topic that I don't think stickies really help with. We all need a reminder every now and then to watch our behaviour on a forum.

Completely true. Even the best of us will sometimes lose our cool. There is no such thing as a perfect forum poster.

Well, Feud, since I am the older brother, which means I have more experience with life, I think I just will regard your post as a "newb" comment

I don't recall recently attacking a newer player, I try not to.

Also, if I make mistakes/step out of line, I expect to be called on them. Whether you call me on them or not is your perogative.

And yes, if someone doesn't do a basic background search of the forum and charges in with "OMG TACTICAL COMBAT/MULTIPLAYER/CARRIERS WOULD BE KEWLL DO IT NOW" then, as far as I'm concerned, their post is worthless. If they decide to actually think it through, like Allimar did in his post, then I'll actually regard their post as something more than spam. If, as has been shown in the past, we have the people going "KEKEKE MAKE IT NOW OR U SUCKZ" or the "I dont give a shit if it's been said before, because I'm uber and I bought the game and you must listen to me or go bankrupt" then who gives a crap what they think if they didn't bother to check common opinion?

It's no different to the outside world. If there has been a raged debate over something and someone else walks in the room and starts going "THISD BE UBER WE SHOULD DO THIS OR YOU ALL SUCK" then I will happily tell them to GTFO.

Some regulars seem to purposely get off on attacking 'newbies' or anyone else they feel have offered an idea or an opinion they don't personally agree with. Why?

Because sometimes people have a need to feel that only their ideas are valid, and all other opinions are wrong. This isn't in reference to anyone specifically here, just my observation of human nature... and my brother-in-law.

Some are otherwise fine folks that maybe you just caught on a bad day. Sometimes, things are just misunderstood, something meant to be funny comes off as sarcastic, or whatever. Finally, some people are just mean and hateful, there's really no understanding it, it just is.

Usually the first two of these situations are self correcting. But there's really nothing you can do about the third except try to ignore them. That and do as Cari suggests at the tail end of the sticky.

everybody has a a** hole and a opinion and at one time or another they`er both useless so you can either treat everyone with respect as you would want to be or be one of the useless a** hole just remember what goes around comes around I`m not a new member and if a topic is to hard to find again I`m going to post about it again.
so hopefully no one gets upset when it is repeated some of us have been around awhile a may say will guess he/she is have a bad post day when they come down on you
but actually there is no excuse for yelling at someone that is new and may not know

if you don`t ask how will you learn anything.

so be nice to the NEWBIE they may get make the best mod for the game and if they don`t post it for us we ALL lose.!!!

Mumble, these people are most of the problem. Review even a small sampling of the threads and it doesn't take very long to come across an example of name-calling, flaming, trolling or an intentionally non-helpful reply. Ninety five percent of this is propagated by the same tiny group of individuals. You, I and everyone else on this forum knows who they are.

There are always going to be people who say "check the stickies". They remind me of the crappy software companies that won't support their products and leave you with a lame FAQ website and no email address.

We are not working for stingy software companies, we should be ashamed to even consider upholding their ideals of shut up and go help yourself.

Drat. And I was hoping for some insight on game economics.
