Dynamic Shielding is ethics based I think, it won't show up with the Creativity ability. I don't think anyone knows exactly what it does, except maybe for the dev's. And I have never seen them answer in a post asking about it. I would certainly like a dev's response on this question.

This is how it should look in the GC2Types.XML (replacing the [ with of course) [Hull Name="MediumHull4"] [DisplayName]WhiteStar[/DisplayName] [Description]The WhiteStar from Babylon 5[/Description] [Cost]80[/Cost] [Size]45[/Size] [SensorRange]12[/SensorRange] [HP]35[/HP] [Model]WhiteStar[/Model] [Thumbnail]whitestar-02a[/Thumbnail] [Speed]19[/Speed] [Cate
Actually, I rather like the idea of first person space battles, with me as the pilot, or one of the pilots in a fleet, controlling my own ship. It certainly would make the battles more interesting. Can't think of the name of it, but there was a game that put you in the pilot seat during the space battles. If the ship had more than a nose gun you could change seats to each gunner position to target ships around the ship. Now, that is an expansion I would pay 20-30 buck
I have tried it with five, never with one. And those five were my home star system that I modded to be high class planets, 26 and above. It's an interesting game with only one star system. Just one planet might not be doable, but it would be fun trying. I really think you would get attacked way too early. It's not hard to take a single planet, after all. It would be better if you were not right next door to the Yor or Drengin.
I have never lost due to a tech victory. But, why not just wait and see what happens? It's only a game, after all.
Another thing some of you may want to try, because it has been shown to make a difference. Exclude the GalCiv folders, both the main program folders and the ones in My Documents, from your virus checker's real-time monitoring. I did it when I heard of it, and it did inprove the game's speed.
5-10 seconds is really not that bad considering what the AI is calculating on the larger maps. 3.2GHz is a fairly fast machine, but you still need to have a bit more patience with this game. I have dual 2.8GHz with 3GB of ram and it can take up to several seconds per turn, and yes up to 10-15 sometimes depending on what is going on.
And I cannot find the method for increasing CPU time for the AI, I'm fairly sure it was due for 1.11. It might be this line in the Prefs.ini file: AllowCPUIntensiveAlgorithms=0 Try setting it to 1. I have, but it changes itself back to 0 sometimes. I'll have to check if it resets on every game or not. Maybe
I have done it, so it is possible.
1. There is an option in the shipbuilder screen to retain the ship equipment when upgrading. Make sure it is checked. 2. Follow Auto Pilot Ships in the Interface Options might do what you want. Try checking it. 3. No. One tech at a time. 4. No. One size fits all, so to speak. A lot of us would like those options. And there is no place to type anything in the tech tree. 5. The quickest path to any tech is to research the Research branch first, at least
Doomfest23, Paint is a program that is included with every version of Windows, and Print Screen is a key on every keyboard. Of course you have them.
And even then, with your computer specs you should not go above a meduim size map. You really are at the very bare minimum for running this game.
I have probably the best mid-range video card - a 6800GS CO SE - but I doubt that I would use the higher res textures. It does pretty well, but I think even higher grade textures would really bog it down. Doesn't mean I wouldn't try them, to be sure. And it might even prompt another video card upgrade to the high end if I liked the look enough. It would have to be a pretty big improvement, though.
I also bought mine at a Best Buy. My number is located on a sticker on the back of the jewel case.
Ya, out of a couple hundred games I have never seen one. Plenty 300%'ers and the Precursor Mines are fairly common. Never a Precusor Library. Let's see the screenshot of two on the same planet...
If you think they are too powerful, you are welcome not to use them in your games. Personally, I like them. I think they are juuuust right. Not my fault if the other races are too busy racing to build ships to play war instead of doing their homework first.
You can always break the alliance, you know. They are not written in stone.
No, well, besides that, because that is not the problem. The problem is that your monitor is probably connected to your FX 5500, right? While the game is using the Intel onboard video adapter. Disable the motherboard video in the mb BIOS first. Then update the game because 1.11 is a much better version. Then try it again and it wil probably work fine.
Ya, the sound goes all choppy on mine too, more so during the intro song while loading a save game, especially during heavy hd usage. The Fat Lady can hold a note very long that way, lol. The first half minute or so of going through the game setup screens has choppy sound also, though not as bad or for as long. It seems anytime the CPU gets really loaded down or there is a lot of hd activity the sound gets really choppy. Hey, BoogieBack, how does GC2 deal with the sound files, a
Just so I can get one. Never have as it is, so that one would be kinda nice.
The rules for influence victory have changed, in case no one has noticed since the early versions. Now, influence (for an influence victory) is determined on territory owned, not influence points. So you actually have to conquer several races to achieve it. It is just short of a conquest victory, and when you control more than 75% of the galaxy. I had a game where I had 3 influence resources and all the influence improvements and bonuses. On the graph I had like 90%, but in the V
But, I do have one little pet peeve. Please, for 1.12, if you would be so kind, if it's not too much trouble... Please, please make getting the Precursor Library easier to get. I (most of us) have yet to see one. And I want to see one. Well, at least one.
No. As I have said in post #21 there are entries in the english.str file about this and a dedicated image. So a precursor library was planned and implemented. Planned does not mean implemented, though. In well over a hundred games I have yet to see one.
As the opening screen says, Terran's shared the scematic for the drive. As in drawings, blueprints. Probably sent out in probes of some sort, since direct communication is not possible until the Universal Translator is researched. And many of the races, like he Drengin, may consider the Terrans more of a threat if they had tech that the Drengin did not have. Maybe even more so if the Terrans were so secure, or stupid, in their knowledge that they were not afraid to sha
You really need to update all of your drivers, get Service Pack 2 for XP on there, and update the game to version 1.11. Everything is out of date, not just the video drivers. And you are running a resolution of 1280x1024, not 1800x1024, by the way. And the only files the game will install into your My Docs\Games\GalCiv2 folder by default are the Prefs.ini file and several empty folders. All of your saved games will go there, and your custom ships. But reinstalling will not a
