MOO3 was sheer unadulterated drivel. It was just about the worst game that i have purchased. I read the reviews and I refused to beleive them because I liked playing MOO2, which had tactical combat and was probably one of the most enjoyable games I have ever played alongside Alpha centauri and later civ3. I stopped playing moo3 after my first try as i could see that it was all true. One day, when I am old and decrepit I might try it one last time, but I have the feeling I might end up throwing a
FROOKIE
bump left in three two one....
I've heard lots of people mention this game and i was wondering whether it would be worth purchasing it off ebay or not. Its quite expensive for a 2nd hand game so.... BTW I like tactical combat and it has this, some input would be nice...pls
Not worried at all, nor do I care. Ah the mercenary comes out at last - glad you could make it. I agree with you about the improvements in diplomacy and espionage and 'dark avatar' is supposed to address this as was described in a journal entry back in the mists of time, resources have already been allocated for this. So resour
I am not sure I understand what everyone means by "tactical combat", By tactical combat, we mean the ability to direct the the battle ship by ship. just like chess. I understand it would not be in an update, b
True. Except the claim that it can beat 95% of all players without cheating is a absolute standard. All this vitriol and all over one statement. calm down richrf, you'll go grey before you time!
Okay onikazi, the problem is that this is the only computer thats linked to the internet and its not my computer. so its going to take some time to get myself access. But thanks for the invite. I will hopefully talk to you crazy kids soon.
Sure, it'd be FUN -- for you warmongers. But it would totally wreck the game -- warfare would become the easiest way to win due to an exploitable tactical AI. I for one do not win primarily through warfare, and seeing warfare become the dominant winning method by an even higher percentage is something I will oppose with everything I have, but most importantly my wallet. </
Let's just put this boast as a case of hype and move on shall we? We'll have to agree to disagree, and thats it i'm afraid. I don't think I'll be able to convince you using the present medium, but i'm sure you'd change your mind when in a headlock or something <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absm
It will add more variety to games. We could go for all out production and weapons, or research the AI to death. Cheese is for weak players, I'd never promote it. I just want more options to try out.
I know, but the pink colour is messing up my mojo
Yeah whats a bunker noob and whats a prolly? is that like some sort of umbrella? please explain moo2niac as I really would like to know.
bump left for visibility. No flames as I feel this is important
Its probably worth ignoring him, maybe he'll go away? I like this particular OP so please dont zap it. Link thanks
As for the Karma thing, well, i'm gonna say what every romantic story in history has said: Follow what your heart is telling you. If it works for sales then great, if it doesn't, at least you're doing the right thing. Its a win win situation far as I can tell. Cybermage - what you been takin man? I'm with quixecoyote on this one, he's definitely got the right idea.
I'm not sure an advert in a magazine would make me buy a game, but i've been playing for ages. But what it does do is Highlight the fact that the game exists. I would then look for reviews on the game from organisations such as gamespot and even IGN if I got desperate enough. I used to like gamesdomain, but they got yahoo'd. If the review was good then I will consider purchasing. I wouldn't buy a game based solely on a magazine review though. I'm loosing my respect for computer magaz
Yeah sounds good, but there is one problem, if it takes two/three turns to build one decent ship, how will the AI decide whether or not to build those ships or upgrade them mid build or aaargh! Even I don't redesign my ships that much. Every 13 weeks or so should be more than enough. What would make the AI more effective is to spend the time duiring players turns looking at its colonies and making them more efficient with regards to production and research.
I voted no, please don't hit me. The reason for this is that while building ships is a pleasant diversion and sometimes rewarding its not really why I play GC2. I play for the tension, the highs and the lows that every game has the ability to induce, strategy and tactics and all that jazz. To be fair though: If stardock did release the ship part only pack I would probably buy it eventually to appease my completest nature. <img src="http://images.stardock.com
I'll buy anything. I'm easy...
Veblen you are right about balancing the defence level depending on the circumstances, but Iztoks got you on the engines. On those tiny ships you can't fit the three or four engines that i slap onto my dreadnauts and leave room for weapons. in the mid to late game its all about having numerically small fleets with tremendous firepower and defence being able to attack many times and travel further to do so. Its also a lot about personal preference aswell. I like my ships and hate loosi
Yeah a poll could be done, but I feel that tactical combat is already on the table as a serious contender for one of the expansions. I think the problem lies in whether or not they can make a really good one that will blow Moo2 out the water. Shucks, why not - I vote for a poll! Is that allowed? Yo! Hijack crew, where are you? What do you reckon - Is it Litmus test time for Tactic
Yeah, I been looking for that pesky option too. Well, I can wait till 1.2. Yeah, Tandonmiirs got it right about the why its not done during the turn, but i'm concentrating on the reaction part. Even though the game is already slow on my dinosaur of a computer I'd happily give more time to the AI if it will mean a richer game.
Ah yes. Taking out entire armadas with just a few ships in MOO and MOO2 brings a misty gleam to my eye *sigh* Aww, shucks! You've got me going now..*sniff*. Yup, fighting was extremely gratifying in the old days before threedee, but we definitely settled for less. I want it, you want it, even the people that say No wan
Oops, sorry about all the green!
Just bear in mind - regardless of the feature, any feature that requires more than a few hours of development/testing is not going to be in some update. It's going to be either expansion-only or in a sequel. I am not going to commit to tactical combat or something similar in a sequel but I wouldn't rule it out. I am not against tactical combat, it is
