I don't see the poll anywhere either, but I "discovered" GalCivII from an announcement on the news page of CivFanatics.com. I went out and bought GalCivII the next day, choosing GalCiv over whatever that Star Wars game was that came out about the same time.

"The Mote in God's Eye" by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle is one of the best "first contact" stories ever written.
I had a problem like that last night where just one of my medium ships would refuse to fleet up with other ships. That troublesome vessel ended up doing a suicide run on the enemy's front lines. Haven't had any problems from the rest of the navy since!
After selecting the ship with a left-click, I usually just right-click on its destination. I think there are keyboard shortcuts, but I don't recall them off-hand (arrow keys maybe?).
Update your video drivers. If that doesn't work, post your debug.err file.
All I see is Martimus...
Eventually you get tired of tactical Combat in Moo2, and just hit the turn button anyway... Point! (At least, I know I would certainly get to that point. Not everyone is me though. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc
Now that you mention it, I've been wondering where the downward spikes in production were coming from. Sure enough, it matches up to when I'd saved the game. Granted, I haven't noticed the bottomed-out flatline like you have on the far right of that graph, but I've certainly had production spike to zero due to saving. I don't know if that means production did not occur that turn, or if it's just a data-sequence issue with the save process
I usually give away Aphrodesiac as an incentive to become an Ally. The only times I give out hull plating or micro-repair bots is when a minor race is being hounded by another major race. To date, I've never been able to trade goods for goods with any of the AIs.
This past week I've been playing a trial of Eve: Online. I'm pretty sure if you don't like the combat in GalCivII, you won't like the combat in Eve: Online (and vice versa). Personally, I like turning off the stats and just watching the battle. (Camera controls could be improved a bit though. Scrolling is too slow on Free Camera mode.)
1. How do we determine the difference between normal sensor range and "visual" range? Visual range could be just 1 parsec, and that would make some sense. But the component for stealth/cloak should be large and expensive. It wouldn't do to have invisible battleships roaming the galaxy. 2. A component that adds the ability to decrease the attack
Zerg rush!!!
Oh but for the ability to retreat my freighters and transports out of combat!
I don't mind the milder forms of copy protection, having to have a CD in the drive, etc. I agree. CivIV is like that. Most times I'll concentrate on one game and play it to death, which means the CD is going to stay in the drive anyway. Until it came time to load GalCivII, I hadn't even removed my
Wow! I bought GalCivII because I liked the game, but I'd do the same even if I didn't. I do hope you like the game though.
Driver Date: 7/20/2005 21:07:00 Found the potential problem.
Expanded espionage will be in the first expansion pack, according to interviews with Stardock.
It resets everything to 0 on that screen, but if you go "back", I'm pretty sure it resets to all the default bonuses.
I had the same "device lost" message on the one graphics lockup that I had. Updating my video drivers (they were 6 months out of date) fixed the problem. You may also try upping your virtual memory settings. I have mine set at 3Gig.
IMO, the upgrade cost of a ship should be the price of the new components minus HALF the price of the old components (with a minimum cost of 0). It would decrease the costs of upgrading while preventing any "empty hull" exploits like mentioned above (since you'd end up paying full price anyway).
IMO, crew experience shouldn't translate into stronger ships. It should translate into bonuses to attack and defense. I'm not saying a 1 laser / 1 shield ship should gain XP until it becomes a 5/5, or anything. But as the ship gains experience, give it a small bonus to the "dice roll" during combat. It would mean the ship is better at hitting its target or better at evading damage (just like a skilled crew would provide).
problem is, they have about TWICE as much of a military rating as me Yeah, but if you've got twice the production that they have, then that's just a temporary issue.
Aside from insider trading among the AI, it really does come down to that slider bar. You can be taxing 49% and spending 100%, but if that research bar is low, the money isn't going to research. I generally keep my military, social, and research sliders about even (33%) until the colonization rush is completed. Then while the planets develop, I start dropping military and putting the funding into research. Once the planets are up and goin
Did anyone else think the title said 'censorship'? Yup! And I really want to know how to build a censor ship, because it'd be awesome to fly around the galaxy while burning incense. </fo
