No arguement there MV... I'm all for options that allow the user to customize the game how they like to play. I mostly meant that it would be nice to have the races be a bit more of an unknown something the devs have already started to do with both the randomize features and the blind exploration option. Having played enough games I basically know on turn 1 what everyone's alignment is going to be. Would just like a little of that mystery back <img

LOL... wow... you've really nailed it there. NOT!... First off the vast majority of people here do NOT work for Stardock. The people who are saying the game is fine are basically people like me that have been running the game since release with zero problems. If it were as awful as you want to make it out to be then NO ONE would be able to play the game EVER. And since that's just not the case go peddle your warez some where else cause n

You mean the badges you earn?... If you go to your Metaverse character manage screen you'll see a button on the right that says *Default*. If you click that it will make your badges for that character appear on all your posts.

This shows the planet after I had taken it over via culture. As you can see the AI apparently built an Embassy on a yellow tile. I'm the one that upgraded it with the soil enhancement however from the screen you can see that was the only thing the game would allow me to do. It would not let me demolish the building. Also you can see that in the build queue it says it is upgrading the Embassy using the Soil Enhancement. I have no idea if the building was there before I took over the planet or if

I emailed you a saved game and screen shot of the *upgrading an embassy with soil enhancement* bug. Hope that helps

There is a lot of overlap in terms of strategies for each of the alignments. In terms of specifics again it really depends greatly on the game situation. If the majority of the AIs lean towards one particular alignment and I'm going for a diplo win then I choose that alignment. If I just want to sit back and let them pound on each other till one surrenders then I go good so that I can increase the chances of them surrendering to me. My custom race

Well of course if you play to the strength of one of the particular alignments its going to seem like a no brainer. I've found that depending on what you are doing each of the alignments has its good points. I end up at what ever alignment most of my ethical events point me to. I had started out as evil evil evil... then went neutral for a bit... and now lately I seem to be going good. I still win games. And don't really miss the advantages from t

Keep in mind that with every new game play feature they also have to code the AI to take advantage of it as well. There are some things that might seem like easy concepts for the human but the computer would take forever and a day to figure out. Think about how much has gone into just making the AI build ships that take advantage of all the ship space with just weapons, defenses, engines, and a few modules to worry about. Now you want to add all tho

For that matter it might not even be AI code that is causing the build glitch. Granted I don't know how the classes are compartmentalized but it could simply be whatever controls the planet screen is reporting the wrong graphic for display. And in my current game I've seen it do the *upgrade yellow tile with wrong building* however this time not with a star port but with an embassy. Funny thing was after I took over the planet with culture I couldn'

Always nice to see an *under the hood* type walkthrough of one of your tests. If nothing else verifies things that we see but aren't sure if are intended or not. I can verify that the AI is building colony ships with more speed. The game I'm currently playing with B4 the AI had built ships with speed of 6 while I was running with 4s. Needless to say I didn't figure it out until after it had run past me to a few really nice planets. It is

Shhh... don't tell no one but I once gave away my homewold ... was testing out the trade screen when I first got the game and didn't realize I had clicked the planets area. And of course as soon as I saw the text go green for the trade I hit send. Wait... let me rephrase... I once had one of my flunkies who was learing to use the univ

No... both parties do not need the tech. All you need to do is get to a *Close* relationship status with the AI then you can offer the alliance if you've researched it.

First are those drivers early or late 2005? Stardock recommends having drivers new within last 6 months. Beyond that getting the SmartException program and posting the top of your debug.err file will help figure out what might be causing your issue.

Try downloading v1.0x... lots of fixes in it. According to the top line of your file you are running v1.0 from Feb 6.

You know... I really can't help but just laugh and laugh and laugh at these types of posts. First off there are stickies that say things like *If you are having problems post here* so no need to create a new thread. On top of the dozens of other threads saying things like *hey I crashed*. I can only conclude that the OP is: a) lazy or b) a troll. For the record I have had exactly ONE ctd since release and that was the first beta of v1.1 a

It really boils down to the company you work for. Some programming jobs are barely above sweat shops with totally unrealistic goals and demands usually made by people who haven't the first clue in terms of what it takes to create a commercial product. Others you have a small piece of a much larger project to code. Therefore you really don't have a whole lot of flexibility or control over how you proceed. In general from what I've seen the

Hmm... wonder if you've hit the crash bug that Frogboy posted about. Seems there is something nasty lurking in B3. If you've got the SmartException program he mentioned send them the files. Slightly off topic but I've always disabled auto update crap. IMO it's the worst thing software engineers have ever devised since it rarely checks to see if it is safe to update and even worse can cause all sorts of stability problems if you've got ano

Not exactly the same thing but you can tell what intelligence the AI is set to in their stats screen once you get a LOW espionage rating with them. This will tell you what your base difficulty was set at if you didn't randomize the AIs at the start.

1 Replies 2,742 Views

It is possible that something is broken but to be honest with you I rarely get any techs for free from espionage unless I'm behind the AI in techs. It has been like that for me since day one.

Yeah I remember patch note about the +/- 10 points. But 10 points of what? Abilities? I'm also trying to find a sweet spot for my games. With the new AI tweaks in B3 Normal is definitely a LOT easier then before. And I like having the AIs be a bit of an unknown. It just struck me as off in some way when I realized that I had more higher level AIs in a game that was set for a lower difficulty since Bright doesn't show up until Challengin

1) No idea there. 2) It's always been this way. 3) What difficulty and what version of the game? The is actually coded to be sub par on easier difficulties. 4) This sounds like a very early bug that was fixed within the first patch or two. 5) Yes it is
