I started a new game yesterday with the Randomize Difficulty option. For 5 AIs and a Normal base difficulty I got 2 Normal and 3 Bright AIs. My question is this: Is this working as intended? I would think that the intelligence of the AIs would *average* out to normal. Something along the lines of say 1 Sub-Normal, 3 Normal, 1 Bright. Either that or maybe I just don't understand exactly what the option does to the AI. Either way it would be nice t

Yeah for some reason the very first autosave of a new game takes a very long time to finish. I'd say after maybe 20 or 30 seconds the hard drive will start writng information and then another 30 or 45 seconds it finally finishes and the game comes back. It has no problems autosaving after that initial one. Also it has no problems with the first autosave when I load a game after app start. It's only when it is a brand new game that this occurs. Som

Oh my... it just keeps getting better and better and better and better and... wait shouldn't this be released at some point?!?? You guys keep up this fantastic work there may never be a need to build another space based 4x game again . This one will ha

Some things I noticed while playing B3 these all occured on Normal difficulty: - I took over an AI planet via influence. The planet was building a second star port. When I destroyed the construction it revealed a yellow tile beneath. - Foreign Stats -> Relations -> Espionage will sometimes show 0 bc even though the slider and the domestic screen both show spending occuring. - Stars sometimes don't show up on the main map. - Up

I like the tweak to the starbase techs to make them more expensive meaning that for the most part they will have to wait until an empire has built up the research buildings to get it in a reasonable period of time. However the 300bc cost added is not a deterent in any way if you research Xeno Ethics and go evil which negates all starbase module costs. This can be done really early in the game when that 300bc price tag would actually mean something.<b

It's nice to understand the reasonings behind changes made to a game. If for no other reason then to be able to stave off rabid trolls hollaring about *They've destroyed my game*... Hasn't happened yet but I've seen it occur to other games. It's also a nice change of pace that you all are still committed to improving a game that obviously you enjoy playing as well. I often quip at people who complain about games by saying *well if you don'

I'm sorry any language that doesn't allow for pointer manipulation will never replace C/C++. There are too many really nifty things that you can do in a few lines of code with pointers that take two or three times that without. Hehe... bugs... happens to the best of us .

Eh... what can I say. I like the system as it stands right now. It allows for strategies anywhere from small fast attack craft (my preference) to large capital ship battles. And I get a kick out of watching those zeroes roll past when my defenses are perfect for their weapons. Especially when it is a fleet of 9 small craft up against a fleet of *Frigates* and *Heavy Fighters*. Those 9 ships can waste most of the larger ships in the first volley if

Clicking find or pressing tab will instantly take you to the ship. Whats annoying at times is that it occurs during the post turn phase and sometimes it's tough to know if the game is *thinking* or if it is waiting for you to give a ship orders. We really need a *Wait* cursor . Also if you turn off the option to keep the remaining move points of a ship with a

::Sarcasm:: Wait I'm confused. Our game has been overrun by nerds?!?? When did this happen? Call out the national guard they must be stopped! What has this world come to? Nerds free to modify the game using a bunch of ideas from someone else. Madness!... ::/Sarcasm:: Sheesh. Who cares if a group of people wish to modify their game so they can play in those universes too? Maybe if there was actually a decent stra

I've come across 2 oddities in my current Metaverse game. 1) Thalan population lists as 0.001585800 t. Now I'm assuming this is possible since they have something like 400 colonies. Still just seems strange. 2) Thalan have managed to build mining starbases without a resource on the map. No idea on this one. One section has 2 of them next to each other along with an influence starbase. I do have the save if you'd lik

I didn't think I would like the *No Tech Trading* option but to be honest it has been fun. It tends to lead to a more balanced tech race in terms of leveling the playing field for everyone rather then having a wide gap between haves and have nots. And yes no tech trading means that you don't have the option to try to bribe them. But I've found that the best bribe you can use is a well tuned Phasor <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/

Well you can delete any ship you create by clearing out the Ships subfolder after every game. I know it's a manual solution but does remove those files from your next games. As for getting rid of the core ships I'm not sure what it would do to the game but you can certainly try to clear out the ShipCfg folder of anything that you don't want to show up. You may have to modify the GC2Ships XML file also to ensure the game is stable and doesn

I'm still trying to figure out if some of the posts are serious or joking . Oh and I have an absolutely fool proof method of ensuring that I do not game too long. It's called a w - i - f - e. She tracks my time most efficiently and reports on any thing that she does not dub as productive. And probably why I send her out shopping every chance I g

I've been wondering about this one myself. It doesn't seem to be anything that is part of the abilities list. The XML file doesn't really say so my guess is it's some internal bonus that they hard coded.

According to the XML file the Missile Boat uses the SolarFox config file. My guess would be that if you comment out the Missile Boat section of the XML and then rename the SolarFox config file that will indeed remove the core ship from the tech tree list. Ship config files for core ships are in the ShipCfg folder under Data in the GalCiv2 folder. Conversely you can probably get the Missile Boat to appear for building if you modify that sam

I'm always for whatever options they can add to the game to make it more enjoyable for the player. The more I can customize the game to my personal preferences the better. Not only that in increases the HD life of the game because I can then play more games with other options on/off depending on what I tried before. Honestly I didn't think I'd like the *No Tech Trading* option but after a few games with it on I'm actually enjoying the neck and neck

Three things and these relate to 1.0X1 so if you are playing the BETA things maybe slightly different. 1) Beginner difficulty runs the AI at sub-normal level if memory serves. At this level their economy is set at 50% of normal and they get no higher algos. On the Normal difficulty the AI starts to get it's higher level algos along with an economy at 75%. Those two things can cause it to behave more aggressively. 2) It's not th

I apologize EspoDude. What I really need to start doing is count to ten or something when I read a post like your original. Just really irks me when someone starts complaining about an aspect of the game that has been discussed probably hundreds of times and been shown to not occur.

Well let's see I can be nice or nasty... which is it gonna be? ... hmmm... I guess I'll be nice. Aside from the numerous posts here I'm sure you have read all of the posts about how this AI does not cheat. It must play the game in exactly the same fashion as you. However apparently it is much better at the game then you are at the moment. Keep trying. And just a word of advice. It usually isn't a wise idea to come to a board

Options options options... the more options they can give us the better all around. Hard to say if this would be plausible for them to do but I too would like there to be times where I can build the older structures. The times this comes up most often is when I conquer an enemy planet that has either been wiped of its structures by the AI or me. In order to get this forward base up and running I either need to spend a bunch of bcs or wait the 300 wk
